Well not exactly a legal or safe one, but you can run consumer goods from Manhattan to Rochester and Caradine(sp) from Rochester to Manhattan. Another fun one is Fort Bush to Buffalo with H-Fuel, then Buffalo to Manhattan with Caradine, then Something from Manhattan to Fort Bush. There is an entirely legal one involving Pharmaceuticals, but I can´t remember off hand. The illegal run nets the most though. The first nets you approx 1600 to Rochester, and 16,000 on the return. Where the Buffalo Run, nets you approx 9,000 from Fort Bush -> Buffalo, and the Buffalo -> Manhattan nets approx 24,000. You can also run diamonds from buffalo, if you prefer a legal cargo. Not sure on the net earned there.

If you want to be completely legal.. a triangular route: First, buy a Rhino freighter at planet Los Angeles, California. You may wish to get a level 3 shield from Willard Research station, just below the California Minor-San diego Border station tradelane. Now: Planet Los Angeles (California): Buy Polymers, take to Planet Denver (Colarado) ($161 per unit x 80 = $12,880) Planet Denver: Buy Optronics, take to Planet Huston (Texas) ($308 per unit x 80 = $24,640) Planet Huston: Buy Engine Components, take back to Los Angeles. ($374 per unit x 80 = $29,920) That´s $67,440 per round trip. You will have to survive the odd ambush, but just go into cruise if you get into trouble, they don´t use cruise disrupters in Liberty.
