green comet close approach

  • well, I'd give it a go as long as I didn't have to put up with teenies. Are there any servers just for people over 40/50/60?

have you seen my new spaceship mod? now I can fly one of these! :)

  • Hey -
TAW - you dind't just plagiarize MrEd's previous did you? That looks ominously similar to a snappin' lawn chair one could easily use as a weapon

"A little excitement in an otherwise dull day..."

  • I will confess that the idea of an older comunity mod ( pensioniers server ?? ) has a unique appeal -- the thought of not being dissed by a 10 year old who as no life but to live on a server 24-7 is quite interesting -- might actually work ( it would probbably be hacked imediately ) -- I could just see Taw and his new ship " the lawn Rocker " specail geriactric thrusters and super slow cruise speed -- or that new Torpedo of his " the young whippersnapper "

  • Tawakalnistan is unsurpassed in missile and torpedo technology, why we've already achieved walking pace and we can now hit a barn door at five paces (although we need a good nap afterwards and a rub down with mentholatum)

    older community mod

it doesn't sound quite so good when you put it like that :(

    Quote

it would probably be hacked immediately

maybe, but would it matter? we'd keep forgetting our passwords anyway, and even if we remembered them we'd forget what we were supposed to be doing in the first place. These days when I log into TLR I have often forgotten what I was going to post about by the time I get to OT.

  • How about -- Senior Center Mod ?? -- orrrr adusted living comunity Mod LOL -- god im feeling my age now -- what were we discussing -- whats that sonny --

  • We need to change topic's before Taw has to go buy a new case of Depends or i forget wear my four legged cane is at
( i will pay for that Buttt it was worth saying :) )

Heres a link to an article about new rockets purpoosed by a cutting edge British firm ( the pic is way cool ) and its a neat article

  • lols I wus reading this meself and debating whether to post it or not.

it's actually a really old concept, going back to the BAe/Rolls-Royce HoToL project in the 70s/80s and in some ways to advanced German designs of WW2. The name Skylon actually derives from it's visual similarity to the iconic central structure of the 1951 Festival of Britain!

oo-err that was too exciting, where's me tablets?

back on topic - it is a rare clear night in Tawakalnistan this evening so I took the opportunity to get the Tawble Dual Deep Space Telescope* out into the grounds of the Grand Palace of the People and go comet hunting. Apparently it's "near" Leo, but I couldn't see it.

*binoculars 'cos the kid has broken the rather expensive 6" reflector I bought some years ago :( <fume>

  • Ironic i lived in nyc most of my younger life and when the kids started arriving we moved into NJ Both were a waste of time due to cloud smog and such but now that im upstate ny ive been thinking of getting a celestron or some other form of telescope due to how clear the sky and the air is
( when we moved up here i spent a year coughing up the crap in my lungs and havent taken any nasal meds since we got here whats that got to tell you about nyc air )

Cotidie damnatur qui semper timet - The man who is constantly in fear is every day condemned. (Syrus)

  • I wonder if the comet is just something left over from Taw's dinner last night, and he just launched it into space to get rid of it. ;) :D

  • akshuly I found the air quality in NYC rather better than at home! but then, Stoke-on-Trent has long been known as "Croak-on-Stench" - the biggest health problem that i found in NYC was the bits falling off the buildings (which nearly hit me more than once) and getting lost on the subway and ending up in Brooklyn....

FD: shut up you. You're only jealous because Tawakalnistan really does have a rocket programme whilst you're still chopping logs.

L-S: 4000 miles? crikey! I'm off to my reinforced bunker in the Tawakalni mountains (cunningly disguised as Mr Patel's newsagents shop at the top of the road....)

  • Well i hope it dosent have weird zombie affect or some such as we pass through its tale -- or some odd green plant thingies growing in towel-lack-of-stand or how ever you prounce it ??

  • Probbly gas. Besides i like the idea of an elders site, some of the forums rules dictate that you can't gate or dock rape someone, and under certain levels can't be fired on now i like the occasional fight but like to explore more,or trade, and taw and MrEd,i've read alot of the books you all talk about like andea Norton used to have the whole collection, i found the dragon riders of pern good to,it's about us lowwly ol humans pioneering in space sort of like freelancer,i hope i find as good a friends out here in freelancer as you all apprantly have

    Yellow Eagle

  • I really like Dragonriders of Pern when it started (although i was lot younger and less critical then) and everything had a sensible scientific explanation. As it went on however it became more girly dragon fantasy which generally turns me right off.

    "elders site"

    - as long as I don't get shot at and can stay nice and safe in Bretonia I'm happy. Stokes Mining Station is where you'll find me and the good ship M.S. Tawakalnistan - can't possibly think why! :) Who want's to go and do that nasty fighting stuff? (although to be fair there is always plenty of money to be made in the Border Worlds and the scenery is quite nice, sadly Bretonia is not the most attractive part of space and our spaceships are rubbish.)

    - we're a friendly bunch on the whole, what's the point of falling out with people after all? life's too short! :) although be prepared for some odd "friendships" usually involving strange mixed-up animals... a plasticine dog, a lounge lizard, a llama, a very mixed-up rabbit-thing, a talking horse, a flying birdman... the place is like a petting zoo at times!

@The Horse - thanks for the tip about The Uncharted Stars, Mrs Taw ordered it for me but now she's hidden it and says I can't have it until my birthday!

  • I read almost all of the pern books and alot of her mind people books she does have a tendency to fall into womens scifi after awhile -- ive been on a Peter F. Hamilton binge as of late read the Commonweath series and have to get the second book of the void trilogy

heres a link to the andre norton book list -- shows all her novels and how they are connected

and you are always welcome Yellow Eagle in my threads ( hands a can of beer and offers you a seat by the fireplace ) and you may see me in space soon -- i have to rig a cable across the basement to connect to our high speed hook up and will then climb into space -- ive been wireless to it so far but the connection ebbs up and down too much for it to be usefull in acessing a server

Cotidie damnatur qui semper timet - The man who is constantly in fear is every day condemned. (Syrus)

  • Well you may want wireless in space it's going to take an awefull long cable ,in less your going to use a telegraph, but i have a lot of cable to run accross your basement' want to hear a quick idian legend :?:
