CloakingDevice hardpoint - how to use it? (without cloaking)

  • I wish to use this mount for max 1 like-commodity (normal commodities cannot be limited to just 1 as far as I know), but I cannot make it to see anything in equip buy/sell (market). Is it even possible at all? Was one of you using it? Or do you know about any other mod(s), where it is used for similar purpose?
    The "commodity" I wish to used this way should be passenger cabin with life support (w/volume so high that it cannot be unmounted)...

  • Or - could I use other (non-used) hardpoint instead? One that is supported by majority of all ships (or at least by majority of playble ships)?

  • I think only NPCs can use the cloaking hardpoint, but I've been away from this game for rather awhile, so I hope someone knowledgeable helps you soon :)

  • When I attempted to add the cloak for a single player game, the cloak did work (i.e. when I launched, I was invisible); unfortunately, the key to activate it didn't work. Also, I couldn't get it to show up in the equipment list, only the commodity list, which suits your purpose just fine. Have you tried making your commodity a "CloakingDevice"?
    Be aware, though, there is a working cloaking mod for multiplayer, and I shall have another try for single player, as well as the story NPCs that have cloaks, so you might run into compatibility issues. Probably not all that important, though.

    In my many years of hunting through FL, I never found an actual cloak hardpoint. Yes, it is on one or two of the original ship models but DA appears to have never included it in the EXE.


    There are ways of making a cloak buyable but you are playing with a very dangerous subject here. Cloaking discussions have been banned on many websites due to the amount of abuse that could be done with them. That was until the cloak feature was added into FL Hook which gives the server admins full control on how it worked.


    Some of the hardpoints listed above are specific to a particular type of equipment they handle. Some are part of the model layouts and are ignored for normal equipment loadouts (such as hp_child). My suggestion would be to set aside one of the gun or turret hardpoints and use that for your cabin feature. Don't use it for any other purpose. Shields are an even better selection since there are 30 types of them.

  • After playing with the cloak again, I've decided it's too much effort to get it working properly. When the cloak is activated, you're practically indestructible (it's quite fun bouncing off planets and suns, though); even when the cloak is off, you're still pretty tough. So if anyone wants the cloak, use the workingcloak mod.


    I should have also considered the possibility that making your good a cloaking device (or even just using the cloak hardpoint) might actually make your ship cloaked, so you might not be able to use that hardpoint, anyway.

  • 3 Primary hardpoints you need to leave alone are:
    HpMount, HpTractor_source, HpEngine--
    I've found the C device hardpoints on many FL ships
    by looking at the model in the cmp editor.
    Although I'm not clearly certain, I think it's possible
    to create and name a specific use hardpoint.


    Hardpoints for equipment fall under categories.
    HpRevolute|HpWeapon01 (etc)
    HpFixed|HpWeapon01 (etc) (such as the LibCruiser main gun)
    HpFixed|HpEngine01 (etc)
    HpFixed|HpMount
    HpFixed|HpTractor_source
    HpFixed|HpShield01 (etc)
    HpFixed|HpCloak

    Then you start getting into detachable points.
