Oi Oi -- Camels mate, but they've gone and done away with what they were just to try to emulate another tobacco, and I'm none too happy

'Twould be nice if that had not been the case and I gotta wonder if it's the same case on your side of the pond

Have they gone and changed more than just the pack they come in over yonder as well I wonder??
Pfhfhftttt... Bloody bean counters me thinks...

well, most of our common blends have been somewhat diluted to say the least, and soft packs aren't readily available anymore. I usually smoke imported American blends, don't like most of the home variety apart from Capstan Full Strength, Senior Service, and Navy Cut. Tobacconist in town does Winstons , Luckies are sold in Asda because they're part of Wal-Mart, Camels are only trustworthy from a proper tobacconist, but I can get American Spirit which is rather pleasant. Chesterfields are very hard to get hold of, would be being my favourite, I usually have to get those from Italy or Egypt.
Apart from Italy and Greece afaik, cig prices across the EU are sky-high now and in Bretonia we pay on average £5 - £6 for a pack of 20, most of which is excise duty that goes straight to the Treasury. Bear in mind that I can remember going up to the corner shop for my grandad's No6s and they were 2 shillings for 20.

yeah its a shame what non smokers are doing to you die hard smokers out there. now i dont smoke but im a moderate conservative who feels if you wanna puff away its your god given right to do so. but all these stuffed shirts in washington want to raise taxes on cigies and liquer . its im possible for a regular joe to afford his favorite liabation . mine used to be a nice glass of ameretto on the rocks or a shot of yeager before bed but no more i have been dry since my divorce.

U get American Spirit? there made just a few miles from here and our stupid state won't let us buy them unless i go to the town their made in stupid right, beleave it or not it'sall about taxes, and there made in the idian nations and this is the funny part i live in the indian nations, the cherokee nation to be exact, and there made by our tribe the income pays for many of the roads and bridges that the state has and hospitals,we donate out millions every year from tab.an casinos income to also schools is donated,it's about greed.I think there lining their pockets at the
capital, and you see them working on the roads all the time they will build a new road and then tear it up two weeks later :x on a nother note, and they have navy cut? wouldn't mind trying that
do you want those grains of sand for your sand box back i can't keep the cat out of it,i could mail them back or fly over and just drop them you can have what the cat left to we call them kitty candys be cause we can't keep the stupid dog out of them but your welcome to them? :mrgreen:and rb i think i have some hooch around he some were if you want it

And if your lonely i have a sister in south dakota that will keep you warm in the winter and provide plenty of shade in the summer, don't pay any attention to the nine or ten kids......and she makes good frybread  -
Well, the best way to quit is not to start. And if you DO choose to smoke, understand what you're getting into  I say this having been a smoker for...lessee, now...around 30 years. Yes, I'm firmly addicted to the nicotine, lol- last time I tried to quit the wife put up with me for about 3 weeks, then went and bought me a carton. Threatened to leave if I ever tried to quit again....
I used to smoke Marlboro 100's, did so for a looooong time. Then the prices went asymptotic after the first rounds of anti tobacco lawsuits (The companies had to recover it from somewhere, I would suppose, so I dont blame 'em.) and an alternative had to be found. A visit to the local tobacconist provided the answer in the form of loose leaf tobacco, tubes, and a little rolling machine that operates a lot like the slide on a pistol. Total cost for a 1 lb bag of said tobacco, 300 tubes, and the machine? $30.00 US.
That was then....
Recently, a tax bill was passed in Minnesota that levied an additional state tax of $1.00 per pack by weight, instead of by package.
This means that the 1 lb bag of tobacco I was able to purchase for around $19.00 US has become $39.99 US.
So, long and short- what used to cost around $50.00 US a month has now doubled. And there's another Federal tax of the same order being talked of. Ostensibly, it's to fund a new nat'l health care system. We'll see what comes of it.
Now, not that smoking is neccessarily a healthy choice, but rolling your own does have it's benefits- one, the tobacco isn't treated with all kinds of chemicals. Two, the filters are just cotton, with no regeants used on them( to the best of my knowledge) and rice paper is pretty much rice paper. Three, the cost 'was' within acceptable limits.
And I dont think all these well meaning individuals have really considered the long term affect of this- for example, which class is going to be the most adversely affected? Those who can least afford to pay this tax, as one example. I'ts much the same as with gasoline, really.
I wanna see the warning label on a pack that tells it like it is:" Warning: The Sturgeon Generalissimo has determined that your B****ing about my smoking could be hazardous to your health"
Anyway, my two bit's worth...

You know they're bad for you? So why persue on that track? Probably too late for you guys already though if you've been doing it to 30+ years..
