FLServer Defaults

  • I have a few questions;

    1) Is there any way to change the defaults of the standard FLServer?
For example, can a newly created player be given more credits to start with? A different Ship? Start on a different planet?

    2) Are there better FL server programs around than the one supplied with the game?

    3) I assume the standard FLServer program sets everyone to the same default level and that any mod (eg beam weapon) won't work, so, how do I allow certain mods to work on the server?

Many thanks for any help offered.

  • Hello

    1) http://www.universalmodding.com/forum/i ... topic=26.0 covers it all, you probably need to register to see it, I can't find information on this site yet.

    2) FLServer is always used (AFAIK), however there are "helper" applications for editing/running server, Ioncross v5.1 is the one to get.
    http://www.ioncross.com/software/

    3) getting mods to work, easiest way is FLMM (Freelancer mod manager) 1.3 is stable, 1.4 is in beta. Both in downloads, search for FLMM (tlrdownloads, password download)

  • Thanks for the quick reply!

    I found the IONCROSS stuff!
    Just what the doctor ordered!

I've played with mods a bit before and have FLMM1.3.
    To clarify my third question...

I have a server at home and my kids just discovered FL and wanted to play multiplayer.
They're a bit young and to make it easier, I activated the beam weapons and invulnerable shield mods.

So do I need to activate the mods on each PC or, will I need to activate it on the server itself?
(or all PCs and the Server?)

    Many thanks again!
    You've been great help.

  • well, as far as mods are concerned, yes, you will need the mod on both the server and the client. The server just produces a universe to play in, the client still does most of the work.

  • for changing all starting stuff, as well as basic server jumpgates behaviour, ie locked holes .. money ... starting reputation ....

    use \EXE\mpnewcharacter.fl
    file, edit there
dont forget to remove existing accounts first coz u can make mess with holes etc,
thats if u only wanna change starting points for server etc...

file is easy to understand no need to explain much

ioncross is excellnet tool, but if u r making custom mod, it can b very tricky since u dont have hashcodes for stuff u included, id suggest that u first clear up mod, then generate hashcodes and use ioncross after, basicaly ioncross has its own 'database' how it interprates things in txt form, weapon names etc... use it ONLY when changing stuff with vanila, if u havent created custom hashcodes of IFSO itself

    good luck
