Winning The Race

  • Hi, I'm new to this, can someone tell me if ther is an easy way to win the race through the rings?

  • There's a mod that lets you bypass if you can beat it, but 2 ways, is if you stay on thrusters for it, or the main drive and just watch the turns. Forget about hovis and just complete the track.

  • You should be able to beat it in a Crusader or Cavalier. Just make sure to stay on the inside of the rings, and don't forget strafe. If your in a freighter, I highly doubt you'll be able to turn fast enough.

  • Get the Heavy Thruster from Rochester Base and you should be able to beat him.
You could also set up the speed mod in The FLMM (MOD) Manager.

This causes him to freak out at the begining of the race and he flys way off course and you can fly like a snail thru the rest of the race and beat him.

  • u can beat Hovis in any ship and without any cheats.
jump into cruise its shift-W shortcut on keyboard, cut on closest path
    like race car does...
    good luck

  • Don't tell him there is no problem with the race, just help him, please. The race was/is one of the all-time-favorite questions, about in every game there was a race within (Mafia, X3 ...).

As Puke Barwalker has already told you: don't miss a ring. That is the clue. So you may need some practice to learn when and where to steer in what direction. As you already know there are two rounds, even if you loose the first race. In the second just fly your way and don't miss a ring (again :)). If you finish the race in reasonable time, you WILL win because Hovis will get out of the track.

  • Hit cruise instantly.

Don't concentrate on the next ring as much as the one after it. Look ahead at that one and anticipate where you will need to turn.

    Hug the inside line.

  • I did a Google search and here are the results (Results 1 - 10 of about 85,700,000 for cheats 0.06 seconds) and if you have reached the end of your patients, then use the speed Mod and freak him out. Like I said before, I beat him using the Heavy Thruster (Less Drain than the Thruster) that you can get on Rochester (Without a Mod or Cheat on) As for those apposed to cheating almost 86 million hits for cheats puts you in a minority me thinks.

Don't hit any rings, or you'll bounce far and reduce your speed.

Always get in the fast lane (choose the shortest way, close tides).

    Just follow the waypoints.

PS: I finished the race in a Dagger, just like him

I agree with Tunicle because it initially occurred to me that Hovis was using his cruise engines, and this is exactly how I beat him many, many times. I can see the Heavy thruster working as well.

  • I created my own metod to Beat Hovis, when you reach the Start Line, and the counter reach Zero, quickly use the thruster (default key: TAB) and the normal engine to reach the 200km, and whens at full speed and some distance activate the Cruise Engine (shift + w), if done enoght fast and good you wont see hovis during the lap, and take care of the misiles the hovis men will shot you :geek:

with my mods i use the nomad thruster from start of the game

  • The easiest way that I found was to hit TAB as soon as the race starts. Hovis ALWAYS starts with with his cruise engines. YOU just hot the TAB key and burn thrusters to the first ring. then just as your thruster power runs dry hit Shift-w to start up your cruise engines. .. Using thrust till it has almost no power gives you quite a lead on hovis enough that by the time you cruise engines are running you are still in front of him. Now you run the course and beat his arse. BTW you will probably fail the first few times.. like any race driver you need to learn the course some of those turns are so tight you HAVE to start the turn before passing the previous ring.

  • Bet him on the first try, but when I was younger I struggled, to beat him. Shift-W as soon as you start, to the trick.

    Braggart! :P

I finally won but I think it was a fluke. I have now finished the game and have other questions. I will, however, have to find the appropriate place to ask them ... :|

  • Hey Guys, my first post here, and I have a problem.

During the race, Hovis always crashes at first half and gets blown to dust...I tried the race like 30 times and he always crashes...what should I do? PLS HELP!
On the first page someone mentioned a mod to bypass the race. Can you give any link or something?

By the way, I play The Next Generation mod...
