I just start looking into a huge modification of color and icons in the hud of fl. Wow that a huge modification!!!
You need to go file by file 3db + cmp in the freelancer\data\interface\hud folder.
Open it with utf editor and than go to texture library in the file and go to MIPO and export and save in *.tga.
Open the tga file as a picture. I use photoshop to edit the files.

after you open the file in tiny hexer how do you use it, to make it work in freelancer?
You will need an unprotected exe; if you don't have one, go to GameCopyWorld and get "Freelancer v1.0 [MULTI] Unprotected EXE". Extract/move FlColors to Tiny Hexer's scripts directory. Start Tiny Hexer (or select Tools > Scripts > Rescan scripts directory if already running) and open Freelancer.exe. Select Tools > Scripts > Freelancer Colors. Freelancer.exe is modified even if you cancel the dialog, to separate some previously shared colors.

What is the difference between a normal exe, a nocd crack, an unprotect exe?
The normal exe (from the first commercial release) has been protected so it will only run with the CD. The nocd crack is the normal exe with the protection removed. The unprotected exe is from a re-release, which never had the protection added.
