Falkland Base and the malvinas cloud

  • I noticed that myself while trolling through Tau-37 (for that is the system) What a nerve, using the name Malvinas! It´s amusing in a way, but I feel like playing a mod in which you can fly Harriers and spong Nomad-Argies! 21 years ago this year, btw. Doesn´t time fly? I was just 18 and signing up for me 2 years then...

"for once, i`ll actually tell you what i was thinking; but maybe i won`t have anything to say.."

  • Well, at least they didn´t just name the whole place Malvinas... If that´s the case then you know which side the programmers are biased toward. Argentines as Nomads? Naw... Corsairs and Outcasts. Notice they all got Spanish names heh heh.. Too bad the Bretonian fighters come nowhere near matching the Corsair or Outcast fighters... Definitely nothing like the Harriers vs. Mirage/Skyhawk duels in 1981 (and none of the FL missiles perform anywhere near the AIM-9L Sidewinder on the Harriers!)

  • Quite. One wonders if the Bretonian Admiralty suffers from budget cutbacks as much as the real thing does today. Still, things are looking up if Her Majesty´s Navy is indeed going forward with the CVF and Type-45 projects, and hopefully a whole slew of JSFs to boot!

  • well yeah I originally thought of Corsairs and Outcasts as Argies with them speaking the same language etc. but I like the Corsairs and Outcasts and I don´t like the Nomads even though obviously they are a lot tougher than any Argentinians!

"for once, i`ll actually tell you what i was thinking; but maybe i won`t have anything to say.."

  • Heh, I noticed the Falkland/Malvinas thing too. Sorry to the Brits who feel otherwise, but as far as RL is concerned, if I had to lean towards which country the islands belong to I would have to say Argentina. It is just off their coastline afterall . Although seeing how I´m living in the American Empire perhaps I should keep my hypocracy in check .

  • Stop the political discussions. You´re risking a lock.

  • I got the Falklands expansion for CF3 and spent some happy hours blowing up Mirages, Skyhawks, and Etendards. I tried to play the Argies but when it came to unloading Exocets onto British ships, well, I just couldn´t do it. So I turned round and found some Argie targets to hit.

"for once, i`ll actually tell you what i was thinking; but maybe i won`t have anything to say.."

  • Say, I wonder how hard is it to create mods or scenarios for CFS3? It would be interesting to war-game a Falklands scenario in which the RN still has the old Ark Royal and her Fleet Air Arm Phantoms-- And see if any British ships would have been lost if that was the case. Back to FL... A fight between Bretonia and the Outcasts over Tau-37. That would be something I´d love to see.

  • it was gutting to see the Phantoms go, but they were retained land-based for some time after as I recall. The Buccaneers on the other hand stayed front-line for years despite having no carrier, if you remember they were indispensable in Gulf War 1. Now there´s an idea for a CFS3 mod; Phantoms, Buccaneers, Shackletons, all the old kit from when we were boys and the world was a simpler place. I feel like putting a total exclusion zone around Falkland Base and trashing the Outcast cruiser "Generally Belgrauniad" and I´m sure that one of the Outcasts leaders must be called Galtieri or Maradona.

  • I´m not THAT old! however my dad flew on Lancs during the war, also Halifaxes, and one of my best mates from school was a fitter in the RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight for a while so I have been in the preserved Lanc City of Lincoln, unf. not when it´s been flying. Wouldn´t mind ´though.... having said that they were apparently murder to get out of on ops if you had to bale, due to the mainspar lying transverse across the main cabin. Fortunately my old man never had to bale.

  • Tawak, I know why you couldn´t fire off those exocets!! You didn´t have a team of French technicians from Aerospatiale working on installing them properly on your Super Etendards, like the Argentinians had during the Falklands War. No wonder the Alliance didn´t invite those snakes along to the Sirius Sector !!
