****NEWBIE QUESTIONS?? - look no further2!!****

  • I have a question should the mod edit the files inside the Freelancer game folder? Shiparch.ini and goods.ini is altered with my modded shipinfo also the files containing the ships is added. So when I try to go on with an older mod the programe still crashes, so then I have to reinstall Freelancer. But the files appear and is altered as soon as I launch FL with the &quot;ship mod&quot;. I hope you get what I mean..   • Hmmm, you aren´t editing the files inside the Freelancer folder directly are you? The best thing to do is to download Freelancer SDK from <A href=´http://eoa.seriouszone.com´ Target=_Blank>EOA Players Consortium</a>, install it on your desktop and edit those files. One you have finished editing them to what you want, right click on the folder and &quot;Add to archive&quot; (if using WinRAR) naming it YOURMOD.zip.flmod. You will need to do a complete uninstall-reinstall of Freelancer and FLMM now. Just some quick questions: Does the game crash when you don´t buy your ship and launch? Have you edited anything in the system file for New York (Li01.ini)? Have you modded a clean install without starting it up first? (Might just be me this one, but it causes problems sometimes) Errr....do the CMP, MAT and Icon files that you have referenced exist?   • Is it FL, or FlServer thats crashing? If It´s FLServer (Or could be FL too, I guess), maybe it´s the: &quot;LODranges = 0, 999999, 999999, 999999, 999999&quot; A little extreme in my opinion <img src=smilies/icon_smile_big.gif width=15 height=15 border=0 align=middle> . Take a look at the vanilla FL ships LODranges for a guide, and put them to the same. If that doesn´t work, then I don´t have a clue... L.D. P.S. - bear in mind that I don´t know about any of this stuff, the above was just a guess. No doubt that it´d improve performance greatly, LODranges that high would no doubt cause ALOT of lag. P.P.S While typing the above, it came to me - with the LODranges that high, you should be seeing the ship from a distance further then that of which it spawns...which is impossible... I feel a new generation of modding coming - Look at them, Warriors of the Sky (Argh &amp; Crew), The Sol Mod (Mephistopheles)...Total Conversions, to the highest quality...

  • No, I dont edit the file inside th freelancer folder, i copy the files i need and then i paste them into my mod.. (that is inside FLMM/mods). FL crashes before I can buy my new ship <img src=smilies/icon_smile_sad.gif width=15 height=15 border=0 align=middle> (I have so I buy the new ship in a new system) I can´t leave Manhattan I launch then it loads forever and then I see the docking ring for a millisec. and the it crashes to the desktop.. I have edited Li01.ini, I have taken away all the jumpgates (exept the one to California) and added a new jumpgate to my new system. I have done the ship mod both with a new installation of FLMM and FL. Yes the files exists.. <img src=smilies/icon_smile.gif width=15 height=15 border=0 align=middle> Maybe it was a bit overexadurated with the LODranges.. <img src=smilies/icon_smile_tongue.gif width=15 height=15 border=0 align=middle> changed it though it didn´t help..   • Ok, if you can buy your ship in a different system and launch, then the problem will be in your Li01.ini file. So you took out the jumpgates and added one in. That doesn´t seem like a change which would crash anything at launch, just off of the top of my head, have you changed or added any encounters? Oh have you changed any ships in your npcships.ini or given a faction any new ships in factionprop.ini ? If none of the above, then if the only changes made are the ju,pgates, then copy the Li01.ini file from the SDK into your mod and copy in the jumpgate to your system.   • Well I altered the Li01.ini file before I added the ship files and then it worked. So the problem shouldn´t be in the Li01.ini file. I don´t know if I can buy the ship in the new system since I can´t get to the new system.. <img src=smilies/icon_smile.gif width=15 height=15 border=0 align=middle> Here it is: I launch freelancer in a standard FLserver. This is ok. I logon and I appear at NY, however as I launch to space it crashes. This to me dont appear as a problem bound to my new sys but something else. Neither can I imagine that it has anything to do with the Li01.ini since this one worked before and hasnt been altered since. Thank you guys for helping me. New to this so all thought are welcomed.   • So this isn´t a ship problem is it then? Your ship isn´t a cause at all, because your not buying it, and its not on the base your starting out at. It really does help if you actually explain the situation at the start - because none of us would have had to bark up the wrong tree thinking we were dealing with a ship package issue. We can only read what you write. Since the ship has nothing to do with this at all, at least not in the stage of your package for purchase - since you cannot even see the thing - it must be something else surely. Are the NPC´s flying this ship? What else have you actually done? Have you removed all encounters from the system file yet? (it sounds like an encounters problem - hence the disconnect....or your being booted by your own server...also a possiblity). Does FLServer crash? Does FL run, but when you exit you find the server down?

  • Ok.. Well if it ain´t a ship prob then I don´t know what it can be, since it started after I added the ship. I have been working on this mod for a couple a weeks and it was first after I added the ship the problem started. And the backup I did just before I started edited the ships works as it should.. Allthough everytime I activate and start with the mod with the new ship the shiparch.ini, goods.ini and the ship folders duplicates themselfs and they lay themself inside the FL game folder, so I have to reinstall FL everytime I try that mod. I haven´t changed any encounters or npcships.ini or factionprops.ini. Allthough I´m gonna try to copy the Li01.ini, I´ll try anything <img src=smilies/icon_smile.gif width=15 height=15 border=0 align=middle> Well FL crashes (I can´t open it again and I get no warning), I don´t know if th FLserver crashes but it gets &quot;overheated&quot;. Don´t know if the FLserver get &quot;overheated&quot; because FL crashes or if FL crashes because the FLserver gets &quot;overheated&quot;. (So there won´t be any misunderstandings, with &quot;overheated&quot; I mean that the server is at around 300 msec.) Thanks Again.. 8) / PAW Ps.   • hey all i have a problem with my missions, in the systems editor i have the char edited to propose missions and the levels as 25 and 25 (min and max). the system im working on is part of a mod that my clan is making and its supposed to be so intensely hard that you have to have a group of 5 or 6 people in order to do the mission. well my problem is that when i go to see if the mission is there from person, ITS NOT! i cant figure out what it is but i need extreemely hard missions on the board and from the people. the min level is supposed to be 80 and the max 99 or 100. can someone help me out by providing the code or specific directions on what to do?   • Grenade_Magnet - I havn´t really looked at missions, so this is a complete guess, but have you checked the max level of missions in the game? For example, the maximum level of AI difficulty is 19, so there might not be a level 25 mission in the game - It could be that, something like 5 in the .ini´s could turn out to be a level 20 mission in the game, etc. Although, better someone who actually knows what they´re talking about tries to work on your problem. Now - Paw. You said you have removed some gates from New York - Have you also removed the recieving gates in the joined systems? Like If you removed the Cali gate, did you remove the NY gate in Cali too? I´m not sure If that would cause a crash unless you tried to jump between them, but you could always try. Otherwise, run FlServer (with your mod running of course), and open the view toolbar, and open the console. Then start up FL, and try to log in/make a new character/launch from manhatten. Whenever the crash happens, quickly hit alt-tab and look at the console. Alot of the time an error message will appear in there. if It´s not obvious, post it here. If theres nothing, then close FL and the server, and run FlSpit (download it from this site). Mot likely there will be errors in there (there always is, even for vanilla FL). Post anything peculiar in there here and then we can (try to) work out whats up. Alternatively, you could add in mpnewcharacter.fl in your mod and change the starting location to somewhere else, and see if the crash still happens. If not, It´s probably Li01.ini thats messed up (check the new jumpgate entry, etc.). Also, you could just remove all the files from your mod, and add them back in one at a time until It crashes again, and then you´ll know which file the problem is in. If that doesnt help, then hell, your Fl is messed up or something lol. L.D.
