how about Hadryon? gonna complain against him? you better not <img src=´http://www.roblyon.com/fleet.jpg ´> I´ll let Spawn defend himself
STARFYRESPAWN: the mimic

nope not going too. those ships in the above image are clearly his own designs and look good (unless someone knows otherwise), credit given where it is due. this was simply a chance for spawn to further his comment. if he has indeed mimicked / copied stefan´s original model then hes has done a fantastic job and well done to him. i was just pointing out without some proof it´s abit hard to believe. heres a pic of stefans model and spawn mimics, people can make there own minds up. GAG, I want to see the date of the ligtwave models that THIS supposedly guy created. Then we shall see who created what first. Spawn created these ships MONTHS ago. If you doubt me, asked BAKEDPOTATO. He was shown these models back in MAY. ALot of people are jsut stealing out stuff and then reskining them and re-releasing them. I think from now on we are POSTING OUR WORK as soon as we finish it so that no one can dispute it. <b>Reynen Starfyre Project Leader: <A href=´http://www.planetirg.net/´ Target=_Blank>Starfyre Studios</a> Freelancer: The Next Generation </b> Edited by - Reynen on 09-10-2003 21:01:24

They do look alike, but seeing the dates of creation would determin who made it first. Life: No one gets out alive.

being an relatively experienced 3d modeler, I have to say that if spawn did create that himself, I congratulate him. It is basically an exact replica from the viewpoints given. If it is real, that´s some extreme skills. If it´s not, Spawn is quite a SOAB. Edited by - Imagine on 09-10-2003 21:39:29

I´m STILL waiting for the poster and / or the creator HE mentioned to send proof of creation date. Until we receive that, they are spawn´s design, unless they can provide proof of creation before the beginning of may. Bakedpotato, would you like to confirm that I have indeed shown you these models many months ago. <b>Reynen Starfyre Project Leader: <A href=´http://www.planetirg.net/´ Target=_Blank>Starfyre Studios</a> Freelancer: The Next Generation </b>

i dont know if the dates on the images would show anything as the only image that really holds the correct dates are the originals and as neither is an original then we cant compare.... however the following text is an exctract from a the LW3D.Org *********************** Due to a request on the B5MG forums for help with the conversion of a 3DS Project file of the SAAB Hammerhead fighter - I downloaded the file and textures - converted the mesh as best as possible - tidied up the mesh for Lightwave - re-applied the texture maps and added some Lightwave texturing pecularities - and the result is that here it is now for your enjoyment!--I´m gonna have to make my own version of this mesh one day purely for Lightwave - if anyone would like to see that happen - well keep nagging me and you never know eh? <b>Mesh originally created for 3DSMAX by Stefan May in 1996/97 </b> - Converted into Lightwave format and optimised for lightwave By F.Passaro - May 2000 *************************** this clearly shows that the model in question i believe was cleared made by stefan in 1996 along time before MAY this yr i believe.

Spawn has been showing me samples of the ships he was working on for many months now. These pictures and many more were among some of the artwork Spawn was working on and also Spawn told me what program he was using and how he was doing it because I was interested in learning from Spawn how to work with graphic programs.
-
Just to clarify a piont pls BP but when you say "showing me samples of the ships he was working on for many months now. These pictures and many more were among some of the artwork Spawn was working on" do you mean you have actually seen the models being created (which is whats at question) or simply images and artwork of ship similar to those shown above? and if you wouldnt mind answering which package is he using to create them?
-
hm.. well, there are one or two differences in the pictures: 1) spawn´s pic shows better textures. 2) one of the most notice-able differences is where the name of the pilot is written: on spawns pic you see a lighter area around the name. (btw, here is a tip to any modeler out there: write your name in the nametag on the ship, so you know when someone copies it - it´s not 100% secure, though) 3) on the thruster intake ports, directly under the wings, if you look at the original model, you see that there is a hard edge, on spawn´s pic you don´t see this (might be due to the angle though) now all of the above might have been optimisations that fabio passaro made, or it´s spawns work (as i don´t know the fabio-model, i can´t judge here. I can only provide some insight)

To clarify what I was talking about is this, Spawn would come on team speak and we would talk. I got interested in the ships Spawn was working on and how to work with the programs he was using. Lightwave, Milkshape and another program were mentioned but I don´t remember the name of the last one. He would then upload images of the ship he was working on at the time to his web site and give me a link to look at the pictures. He would start out with a frame and then add textures or panels or color, whatever you want to call it to the frame and ask me what I thought of the ship so far. Allot of the time I told him what I thought of the ship and what color I thought would look good on the ship and we talked about the polly count and how to bring it down to acceptable size. We talked about other things related to modding and other things in general of course.

Both models are quite pretty... I say its time for a beauty pagent.. lol... I´ve seen the top image before at the site...... but i´ve also seen the other one too... so I´m gonna say they look really good. But I´m gonna say that Spawn in pretty damn good at what he does....<img src=smilies/icon_smile_big.gif width=15 height=15 border=0 align=middle>

the fact is they r not alomost the same but ARE the same thing but i did not read all of the thread cause it is time for me to go cause it is late and i have school tomorrow A note to freighter fighter: I STOPPED A MONTH AGO!! oops!! sorry Fear Factor "Turn left at fork in road...... In Soviet Russia, road forks you!"

Reynen the fact was never who created what first but who created what. I think 1997 beats May 2003. after all the flaming in posts lately I would have thought you had learned to read threads properly before posting Since Bakedpotato is an admin I will take his word for it. If he believes spawn has infact recreated the model then that is good enough for me. Maybe in the mods readme you should add a note because I know a lot of people out there have used Stefan’s models for renderings and animations or such ( including me which is why I brought the subject up ) and someone else may bring it up again. I would also like to add a note. To the way people have replied to this subject. With maturity and respect. No one has called each other names or started flaming just pure debate and facts. Maybe the last week has had a good effect after all. now I will not add another word since I class the subject closed I would like to ask though how big the poly count is on spawns model cos it still looks rather high for freelancer? and on a final note i congradualte spawn on a fantastic model

@RE I respect your opinion prob more than most as i have witnessed your own modelling skills and must say they are awesome. But im sorry to say i must disagree with you on your pionts. 1, the skins i believe are the same skin, the differnce is the col

I can promise you since these ships were a re-creation (i failed to see that part from spawn), we WILL credit the original authors. I however don´t have time to go out and look to see if someone created these first. I put trust in my team so I will take them for their word. <b>Reynen Starfyre Project Leader: <A href=´http://www.planetirg.net/´ Target=_Blank>Starfyre Studios</a> Freelancer: The Next Generation </b>

Well, the textures are definately new or at least substantially improved on Spawn´s version, for some quick points check the panels in front of the canopy, the side panel in front of the intakes, the leading edge of the wing and the red striping across the engines. There also appear to be several differences in the mesh most of them are visible on the side of the fuselage and again on the leading edges of the wings. Although without being able to see the wireframe it´s all speculation. More importantly, just because someone else goes out and starts accusing eveyone of stealing their (or someone else´s) stuff doesn´t mean that´s the best way to handle it, all it does is get everyone fired up and pissed off at each other. Especially when you´re dealing with a recreation of an existing design such as this ship. If you honestly suspect any sort of "theft" involving something that wasn´t yours you should bring it up privately to the original author, if you are the original author you may want to settle somewhere other than a public forum to save yourself from eating your own words and keep from potentially ruining someone else´s reputation even if your accusations prove to be false. All you´ve managed to do so far is make a bunch of people think that Spawn was stealing models, and if it turns out that he did create them himself it probably won´t matter as the damage has already been done as most people will remember the accusations but how many will remember the appology?
-
just another speculation, but: 3d artists sometimes touch up their textures temporarily for a rendering run. In this case, it looks like Stefan grimed up the textures a bit to make it more realistic for the shot. The actual release version, however, probably included the original textures, without the dust and grime. nighthawk is probably right about the name tag.

You can say they are buy those people but they are recreations of models Fabio Passaro. <img src=´http://www.planetirg.net/spawn/spawngreen.jpg ´>
