bakedpotato and myself make most of the screenshots you see on the frontpage ourselves when we test the submitted Mods. We try to make the frontpage much nicer looking that way, instead of just making newsposts without pictures (now THAT would be boring). What else would you want to see then moby ? Moby - seems plenty come here when there is a new post. Just saying &quot;your front page is boring&quot; and thats it .....is pointless. Go to any webpage. What do they have on their front page? I mean - what do you want to see? news clips from CNN? Updates of what things microsoft are doing to FL..........hmm - nope, What Bargib had for breakfast?? Without actaully SUGGESTING something - it seems more like a &quot;I am bored&quot; kinda post. Suggest what you want to see! Do you mean the layout is boring? That it should be spiced up a bit?? You have to remember some things. 1. Practicality. Websites are there to do something - not look good. This place is DAMNED easy to navigate. Your always 1 click away from the main page, and your at most 2 clicks from ANY page! 2. Feasiblity. - Sure - it would be nice if TLR had some ambient music playing - somethign really laid back, but kinda expansive like space itself <img src=smilies/icon_smile_big.gif width=15 height=15 border=0 align=middle>, but with somethign like 10,000 hits a day (easily - probabily more) - what bandwidth would that chew? Same with more images, more fancy things, rollover effects etc etc etc, it all takes bandwidth, and seeing as their are no fees for us here, and free downloads of massive mods, its about time we all started donating to help out!!!! (I would but i have no job and no money <img src=smilies/icon_smile_big.gif width=15 height=15 border=0 align=middle> - hence the standing joke about i cannot pay my cable bills) 3. Taste - what might be one mans manna is another mans poison........and with tons of poeple about, and alot of them on 56k modems, some changes are just not practical for the wider audience. Lots to consider - but am sure they will try their best to make it as good as possible. One thing you SHOULDN´T neglect is this though...... Interesting things get missed. This is personal impression, i almost dont read the news, when i launch TLR i got almost automiatcily to forums. Why? open few months ago news page, what you see? with few exceptions all news is almost copied just some numbers changed. That was pre-suggestion post. I could be alone on this. I am not going to suggest anything because, unless i know im not alone any suggestion will be pointless. For some reason i dont care about how pretty the screenshots are. maybe this is me. Okay - cannot drop it that easy. Without those updates on mods how the hell would we know what has been done or updated? What would be there instead? I think this is what Stinger meant when he said SUGGEST SOMETHING - cause how the heck can they understand what you mean without giving an example. take away mod announcements, and what news would you like to see? Screenshots aren´t the issue - come on - what would be on the front page then? game developements in space sims or other space sims? This is a Lancer site for starlancer and freelancer - so that cuts that right out. Make it about these two games - what would you like to see on the news then?? <b>COME ON!!! </b> I mean - what news would be on the front page if not mods. Who has the highest amount of kills online that week? Who is the highest rank (stale - 89, and has been for months), what else could they do? Hot topics - people would moan that only spam was promoted, or that their post didn´t make it but someoneelses did........ Until you make a suggestion nothing can possibly change. As you can see, i MUST be miles off of the mark here, cause these would be so boring and non sensical that everyone would lose interest, so what is the items you think that would spice up the main page. I am, along with others, dying to know what you have in store here, cause it must be somethign great. Chips has a point moby. Even if your suggestions are not supported by a large number of people, it does not mean that Bargib and Co. will ignore you. Also, the front page is supposed to be a news page and thus, when a new mod is released, that is of course news, and the corresponding information is posted. Offer some useful, practical suggestions and see what happens. Note: It´s good to see that you´re still around Chips.

The front page is like a menu in a resterant. It informs of what is inside, where the steak and potatoes are. Frankly i didnt wanted to reply to this topic anymore because its going irritating but I realized your reaction could be was harsh becuase you see certain truth. Maybe not. Lets go by examples and take Data Storm(which i think is master is piece) Over the last few days 3 updates. Some guy did another ships. Freelancer Rebalance mod gone from 3.30 fix to 3.30 general fix. My little suggetion is cut the &quot;spam&quot; on the front page(news). I´ve trying in the past few Mods which later got update and update. I feel they boring and alot of the news mods/apps imho are not much. But thats my personal veiw. The &quot;drastic&quot; suggestion would be something like making side bar with new downloads and include there the other guy new ships, patches, etc.. keeping the main list clean for example. This is not about Moby vs TLR. If someone else think its boring then lets discuss what can be done or if it can be done or if bragib has time to do it. If im alone on this then forget it and move on. Ill continue to ignore the news. - fuel.

If someone releases a patch, then TLR has an obligation, as the distributor of the original, to supply any fixes that are necessary. In any case, people report bugs with the mod and the author fixes them ASAP. For this reason, if there are multiple problems there will be multiple patches. I do not see this as a problem, but rahter exceptional mod support. Indeed, I released a new patched veresion of my mod within 24 hours because I discovered a critical gameplay bug. Some people complained about having to download another 46k mod (strange people mainly <img src=smilies/icon_smile_tongue.gif width=15 height=15 border=0 align=middle> ), but everyone else was grateful that the mod had been fixed before they evidenced any problems. All modifications and software require patches, and TLR would not be providing an effective service to the FL community if they withheld them, or placed them in an area in which few people regularly look.

Actually - now Moby has posted a suggestion, i am inclind to kind of agree. Amdittedly the updates do need to be public to stop masses moaning and worse, BUT - it could be smaller - it certainly doesn´t require huge pictures and stuff....but it needs to be visible. At that point, it comes down to site taste i suppose. There could be a ticker going across with mod update version numbers available of last available mods - but peeps might miss that instead. It could be a scroller on the bar, all it needs to be is a mod name/update version: like: Rebal 3.30 Update 1.2 (date underneath) Somethign like that - small and such. Maybe just a static post saying when the last update was submitted at the top or something.........i kinda like the idea. This would work two ways as well. If alot of news arrives, then it goes down the pile, and if someone doesn´t check too often, they might miss the update altogether! That is where a ticker or something would help. My thread is probabily the only thing that lets most poeples systems work. It is incredibly complex program of course - but the fact is that if you make a system with encounters, zones and stuff that you plan out - it WILL crash. No two ways about it.
