"Prisoner of Azkaban" is the first time that a Harry Potter film exists for it´s own sake rather than as a copy of the book. Screenwriter Steve Kloves and new director Alfonso Cuaron are clearly not afraid to alienate the ´fans´ who can´t stand even the slightest deviation. Here, the story is compressed and details altered in order to make for a better film. By treating the story as a film rather than an adapted novel, the film is allowed to live. Scenes flow rather than feeling forced. The acting is uniformly strong, the cast once again made up of Britain best thespians and strong child (now adolecent) actors. The effects are the best yet, owing as much to advances in technology as to their unobtrusive uses here. Often, effects are ´thrown away´ in the background or to the side, rather than highlighted front and center. If you like Harry Potter (like I do, and I´m not ashamed of it!) then check out http://www.mugglenet.com/books/booksix/facts.shtml they´ve got lots of stuff on the upcoming books.

Never been a fan. But they say this one is darker, and with the death of Richard Harris, they had to replace the old wizard.

I don´t care for Harry Potter. Never have, never will. "Violence is the supreme authority from which all other authority is derived."

I have some girls in my school who would kill you for saying that, Taw I don´t like it either, tough. Burn, Harry Potter, BURN! __________________________________________ just ´cos I´m on a diet doesn´t mean I can´t look at the menu.

hmm looks like it is almost none in favour of HP yay! "...All idealization makes life poorer. To beautify it is to take away its character of complexity--it is to destroy it." Conrad sycho_warrior

I actually enjoyed the first movie, but I didn´t think it was all that great. I don´t care to see the second and this next one just doesn´t interest me. Oh, well. There are other summer movies to look forward too. "Violence is the supreme authority from which all other authority is derived."

wow. i didn´t expect such a solid negative response! i´m sure you´ll all ´see the light´. sometime. i dislike the first two movies - they were crud, but the books are really good. and as for people who might dismiss them as junk for a kid to read, then that´s wrong. i see adults everywhere reading them (of course, in the adult version, which looks better, not the kid version). however, i think no.3 will be great. the old dumbledore was - pardon me - the wrong actor. he was too old to be dumbledore. and the new director this alfonso dood doesn´t seem to be afraid to do what he wants, as long as he gets a good movie. nice one cowboy. you remembered my achilles heal - my eyes. but i remember yours - your inability to fly *hits accelerator and watches cowboy fly out the back of the plane*

I´d say it but I´d get banned

I´ll go and see it, mainly because I have nothing better to do. In addition, there has been a lot of "controversy" because Aus. has rated it as "M", and not "PG". I want to see what the big deal is. Besides, the second movie was quite good in comparison to the first which itself wasn´t too bad. The thing that you have to remember is, is that HP is not one of the fine works of English literature, but is merely light reading and escapism. That is its purpose. It is not a deeply psychological series of works that set a new benchmark for modern thought, and that is why I think that some people feel so let down after reading the texts; they expect too much.

well said esky i myself cannot stand harry potter. (or as i like to refer to him - hairy pothead) i found it was too ´childish´, and the fact the only fantasy i read is discworld novels, would explain that fact. i just dont see what all the fuss is about, and why everyone keeps going on about it. i rate it about a 9 on the Viator-suck-o-meter, meaing i will avoid this at all costs. (sorry to all hairy pothead fans.) Viator - Traveller of Time and Space (mostly space... the time thing keeps screwing up when i try to go backwards)

i´ve found an article at a forum of one of my schoolmates, which i´m sure many of you will definitely appreciate. it´s a good laugh Harry Potter is a powerful menace inflicted upon our society to disillusionise children and destroy their futures. Drug use, family abuse and demonic teachings are all predominant motifs in this accursed novel. J.K. Rowling’s evil genius of subtle manoeuvrings through the book to create a subliminal message of hatred and evil is very much underdocumented. The malevolence hidden is only second to that of the Maestro himself – Bill Gates and his brainchild Microsoft. What’s this you say? ‘Harry Potter is not evil!’ and ‘You have no idea what you are talking about!’ Ahhh, so you are sceptical, with good reason. But you must read between the lines to comprehend the evil teachings, and since most of you are too lazy to find them yourselves. I shall unlock them for you myself. One of the major underlying themes in Harry Potter is the promotion of Drug use. Throughout the novels, we constantly encounter Potions and other additives. Potions is merely a nice sounding word covering the darker and more sinister meaning of Saturated Cocaine or some drug mixed with alcohol. Furthermore, the drug use demonstrated in Harry Potter has no adverse side effects and is instead glorified. “But wouldn’t a strengthening potion do the trick?” (Line 4, Pg229, The Chamber of Secrets) Here, the used of steroids is exemplified as a “potion” and there was no harmful side effects. Another aspect of drug use encountered in Harry Potter is the “magical” cures. Anything from decapitation to removal of skeletal structure can be cured in a few hours if not days! This stroke is deliberately aimed at the heart of our society – the young children and our already flailing health care system. For these reasons children are more likely to take risks and hurt themselves oblivious to the fact that some of these hurts cannot be cured! Another mystery: Why is J.K. Rowling so rich? Problem solved! Not from those measly royalties received from book sales, but Cold hard Cash from drug barons and tobacco giants (companies, not actual giants). From these facts, it is now easier to understand the grand scheme of J.K. Rowling. Family abuse and encouragement of domestic violence is demonstrated clearly by the Dursley family. Harry Potter constantly abuses the Dursleys, not the other way around as most of you believe; They are merely reacting to the threat of foreign powers. ‘‘A man’s house is his own castle.’’ This famous cliché encapsulates the terror and the frustration of the Dursleys. They are not secure even in their very own home from a potentially fatal threat – Harry Potter. Juvenile readers of Harry Potter would take these lessons to the heart and thus the next generation of wife-beaters and delinquents is born. This negative influence is already being reflected upon the global scale. Harry Potter ignores his Uncle’s commands, children will ignore their parents commands; Harry Potter escapes from the house, children will escape their own homes and tread path of the damned and live in the streets; Harry Potter is annoyed so he deliberately provokes Dudley, America is annoyed and invades unnamedcountry ... The similarities are endless. Magic, sorcery, enchantment, bewitchment, jinxes, charms… you name it, it’s all there in Harry Potter. There are certain aspects of death mentioned in the book. “Headmaster Dumbledore: ‘To the well organized mind, death is but the next great adventure.” This is basically implying reincarnation. Readers, especially young children and stressed adults seeking an easy way out from the way of the world are seduced by the promise of magic and enchantments. The magic is nothing more than a lie to deceive the gullible and the willing, and those willing to take on the chances of reincarnation; suicide. (and do not get reincarnated unless u can prove me wrong). The bible expressedly states this. “Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.” (Ecclesiastes 12:7). By disassociating magic and supernatural evil, it becomes possible to portray occult practices as ‘good’ and ‘healthy,’ contrary to the scriptural declaration that such practices are ‘detestable to the Lord.’ This, in turn, opens the door for kids to become fascinated with the supernatural while tragically failing to seek or recognize the one true source of supernatural good – namely God. Harry Potter has harmed and will continue to alter the course of society to J.K. Rowling’s own ends. The problem with the Harry Potter series is that Evil is presented in an attractive, ‘wholesome’ package. The diverting of the beliefs of the younger generation is the harbinger of evil manifested as Harry Potter. EDIT : noticed the name of the country afterwards Edited by - cookie[blackknight on 6/5/2004 11:59:27 PM
