Oooh, I was wondering when someone would post a topic like this! In my occasional visits to HBO, I found a page that I liked tremendously that was very similar to it. On it, they discussed and argued about the Halo story and connections to other things, etc. A very interesting page, which enlightened me a lot on the mysteries surrounding Halo. Could be a good tool to any wanting to discuss such things here. Link here. Warning! Minor Halo and Halo 2 spoilers ahead! Good questions to start with: Who were the Forerunner? Why did the Forerunner build the Halos? What connections do the Forerunner have to the Covenent? What destroyed the Forerunner? Why did the Forerunner create the Flood? What is the significence of the "Ark" in Halo 2? What is the significence between humans and the Forerunner? Why are the symbols on the Elites and the Forerunner runes so similar? I will come up with more once I think of them. I think that the Covenent hate the humans because the humans were encroaching (unknowingly) on the Forerunner artifacts. If you read the books, you notice that almost all the important Forerunner artfacts were found on human worlds. The Slipstream bending crystal on Reach, the coordinates for Halo at Cote d´ Azure, and obvious things on Earth, since the Covenent came there as well, and not because they knew it was the human home, but because they were looking for another artifact there, which explains the "small" fleet sent there at the beginning of Halo 2. The Covenent consider the Forerunner artifacts to be holy relics of their ancestors or creators, and think that the humans were trying to steal them for their own purposes. So, they attacked the humans in a holy jihad, and are attempting to annilhate their supposed "rivals" for the rights to the artifacts. These artifacts are obviously holy to them, or at least wanted by their Prophets, who can use their power in the Covenent to call a holy jihad on the humans for these much-desired artifacts that can tell them more about their predecessors and can find more Halos to help in their "Great Journey". Overall, the humans are getting between the Covenent and their means of starting the "Great Journey", the Halos, so the Covenent have chosen to crush the humans.

but at the end of halo 2 the covenant find out what halo´s true purpose is.
-
That IS the destruction of sentient life, right? I just hinished the original halo for PC a few days ago, and was a bit dissapointed to see then end of the beautiful ring.
-
The books also emphasize that the Covenants steal and borrow their technologies from someone else. And the Covenant AI yelled "Heresy!" at Cortana when she performed a slipstream jump so close to a gravitational source (Threshold Gas Giant). Why would such a thing considered heresy? indeed the Covies NEVER jump into a planet´s atmosphere when they in fact can do so. They always choose the hard way - by having to deal with planetary defenses, even when they can bypass them.
-
the covenant hate humans because of our heresy. Humans ARE the forerunner. theyre the same species. But walking around with the same appearance to their gods has gotten them annoyed somewhat. 343 guilty spark says only a redeemer can activate halo. At first, you think maybe redeemer is the label of a great warrior, one like the master chief who has proven himself. Halo 2 has miranda keyes being the reclaimer, the arbiter is by far the superior warrior in the room, yet on the human can activate or deactivate halo. Tartarus has the index and gives it to keyes to put in, he could have done it himself but only a human reclaimer can activate halo. 343 guilty spark talks the the chief in halo about why he would hesitate to do something he´s already done. We learn that the halo network has already been activated once before so if only a human can activate halo, there must have been humans BEFORE the extinction, humans that could fly in space and activate halo. Humans at that time were advanced enough to create a network of rings that only they themselves could activate. The covenant hate us because despite centuries of dedication to forerunner technology, we´re the ones with the power

Is Halo2 Xbox only? If so, anyone heard of plans to bring it to the PC? I guess I should pick up Halo1 and give it a shot. I think amazon has it for about $15 or so now. (Then again they may have raised the price with Halo coming out.....) Arcon : Glad to see you here and posting!!! @Boscoe- At the momnet, Halo 2 is XBOX only. Bungie has expressed its intent to release Halo 2 on PC sometime thins year, though.
-
Well well well time to get started Jacob the sysbols on the back of the eliets ARE forunner sysbols that teh eleteis use to show there devotion The forunners were killed when they actived there halos teh first time Hmmmmm now as for this ark hmmmm reckon it has anything to do with the old bible story i mean THE FLOOD that consumed everything but the ARK saved a few people just a though
-
its possible earth is the ark.
-
There are halo books.?? Anyways where did the flood come from? They looks like zombies, whe you see some up close, they look like humans, but zombified, mabye they are the forerunners or something, and soomething went wrong, and they all turned into zombies... Yeah i know its crazy and stupid, but hey anythings possible, hehe. Unless there´s an actual explanation to where the flood came from...
-
ive been reading on that site, that everyone thinks the flood where discovered by the forerunners, and put in halo... so i gues my crazy theory was wrong...
-
sorry for triple posting... Anyways i have a diff theory. Halo is the ark, it was meant to save the forerunners, from destruction, mabye they where at war with the flood, and they were losing, so they build this ark(Halo) would kill everything out side of it, and anything on halo would survive, but somehow the flood got in and got the forerunners, and where trapedafter halo was used the first time... the flood are the little infection things now they infect and take over HUMANS and COVENANT there are no forunners on halo AND halos purpose has already been debated its a huge wepon of last resort built by the forunners to kill potental flood host, after exasting everyother avalible option the forunners activeated the rings and died along with all aditional life within 3 radii of the galactic centre that was said by 343 guilt spark now i have a more pressing question. if the rings were fired 100k years before the game how coem humans are still alive, also the coventant? obliviusly the rings arn´t that effective
-
Covenant Hate Humans because on some of our planets are artifacts from the Forerunners. And sinse we dont know that the Covenent Decideds that we deseved to die because of it Has anybody figured that Earth could be the Ark thats why the Prophet of Thruth was heading towards it Theres nothing like being fried by Magnus Tide Edited by - Magnus Tide on 1/3/2005 9:18:44 AM

Halo destroys only sentient lifeforms. So Halo has two functions: 1. preserve, contain and study the Flood 2. kill all Flood food, IF they escape And I think the Floods quarantined inside Halo are immune to Halo´s own destruction.

Alright, you´ve convinced me, I´m going to find the original Halo game and try that. Not going for Halo2 until it comes to PC though. I have a gamecube for the kids, but never use it, hate those hand held controllers.

halo doesn´t kill flood it starves them
