• People in Pittsburgh don´t even know how to pronounce the name of their city! How can one expect them to handle pyrotechnics in a responsible manner? Edited by - Wilde on 7/2/2005 10:07:07 PM

  • Yes we can, its the rest of you who cant lol. pitts-burg. Seee thats how. Blessed Be to all those that still dream of the flight to the stars.

Blessed Be to all those that still dream of the flight to the stars. quote " You wouldn`t like my Happy Place it is full of blood, carnage, and destruction" :ME :)

  • Ed-in-bur-ra. Pitts-bur-ra. Not that hard to figure out

  • your both wrong Wilde where do you get the ra sound from? @FF the H is silent in pittsburgh, a common mistake from people who dont live here. Blessed Be to all those that still dream of the flight to the stars.

  • *smacks head* Oy gavolt. "Burgh" is pronounced "Burra", as in Edinburgh. I´m sure the Brits on this site will back me up on that.

  • *nods that he agrees with ff* I don´t care much for fireworks...might as well be burning money.

  • In fact Wilde, it´s not Edin-burra. It´s just Edin-bru. It´s only burra if it has "borough" in the name. Now if you do want to go to Edinborough you´ll find that in America. By the way, there´s no way you can bring the workings of language into place names. Especially don´t bring the British into something which is solely on your side of the pond. By the way, we all pronounce it Pitts-burg, so there. However, speaking of fireworks, during the Battle for Trafalgar celebration. The fireworks display consumed as much gunpowder as the British fleet did during the original battle. Oh wait a second, it was the ´Red´ fleet. Or the ´blue´ fleet. Or something. Yes, we British are caring souls so we replace British and French and Spanish with Red and Blue (though which was which is beyond me) so as not to offend them in any way. As if we care if you celebrate your ´Independence Day´... *mutter* ungrateful peasants *mutter* Edited by - The Evil Thing on 7/3/2005 4:17:43 AM

  • Love the Berg. Fortunatly, Georgia does not allow them other than the pros. I get more sleep this way. The illega;s stuff comes from Alabama on trips and is shot off on holidays. But, get caught and go to jail.

  • LOL I love this site. Were else do you find replies about how a cities name is pronounced when all I wanted to know is do other cities in America have as bad an addiction to fireworks as Pittsburgh ( if there is a way to attach a sound bite to this post I would give a sample of how to say Pittsburgh lol). I wont even go into how we bucher some other words, let just say if I was in a crowded airport anywere in the world I could instantly pick out who was from Pittsburgh. And as to evil thing if you brits hadnt gotten greedy about a few pounds ( or what ever you call money ) and if you would have sent a diplomant instead of and invasion us "ingrateful pesants" wouldnt be so ungrateful. LOL thats what I get for being a patriot. Blessed Be to all those that still dream of the flight to the stars.

  • Wilde Oh yeah? And how many times has our royal family visited America relative to your people visiting us? Its you who imprint yourselves upon us, right down to morphing our beloved language into some hideously deformed dumbed down collection of word

  • Ok enough with the political, and back to the fireworks. If that even makes sense.

  • not to mention herbs. =P wow i miss england, i was born there, moved to the us 10 years ago, still get wierd looks for how i pronounce garage tomatos ect... @ shroud(i think) i live in charlotte NC and i know what you mean, there have been fire works going off here for the past few days, now its only been bottlerockets ect, nothing too fancy but those screaming rockets are starting to get to me....

  • Well, in PA they passsed a law which says to display fireworks that shoot into the air and firecrackers you need a permit signed by Fire Cheif or Town Official. We got that signed and now we spent 140 dollars on some kick-butt fireworks. I myself have a certain devotion to Pyrotechnics,as I am amazed by fire.
