Truth comes crashing down...

  • I have to agree with Demonslayer. Suicide is cowardice. It is inability to face reality. To confront ´what is´, to stand in the face of the maelstrom, that is true strength. It may require ´guts´ to kill yourself, but it requires more to keep on living --and not in the zombied state of depression, that is a half-life. The only historical example I can give of a self-inflicted death that was not cowardice is the self-immolation of the Buddhist Vietnamese monks. To be able to face death without fear when it is immediately inevitable, that is strength. To be unable to face life and choose instead the easiest end, that is cowardice.

  • I have to disagree with Wilde and demonslayer here. Suicide is not a cowardly act in the eyes of the one attempting it. To some, removing themselves from the world seems a noble task, removing another soul from the burden of the planet. To call a suicidal person a coward would be quite ill-advised and wouldn´t help them at all. -:- You wanna revolution?

  • It must also be noted that suicide in itself is not a cowardly act, it is merely an act. You are applying cultural values to an action. Careful not to be so arrogant as to imply that your cultural values are some sort of universal truth.

  • If some remeber the oriental, Japan I think, the honor if you will to commit suicide to atone for a failure. This aside, People who are depresed do need encouragement, not put downs, or attacks or the "It could be worse" speaches. Someone once said, "If your not part of the solution, your part of the problem." Help is sought, weather its just a listening ear, a word to cheer you up, or sage wisdom and advice of those that have "Been there" and survived. Depresion is a growing concern these days. Not just teens, but adults as well.

  • Suicide is cowardice. You can either be a man and tough whatever is going on out, or you can become to sorry for yourself that you feel you gotta end it. It´s a stupid, cowardly way out of life. Among other things its also selfish. You think about yourself only, and the damage it will do to others means nothing to you. And cmon man, seriously, post something on this cuz I´m getting the idea your dead.

  • Bushido, Finalday. The way of the warrior. Commiting suicide...why? Becuase one cannot deal with one´s shame. Buddhism, which has a much stronger presence in Japan that Bushido does, condemns suicide, and rightly so: the act is one of inability to confront what is. It´s a form of asceticism, no better that hedonism and no different than drinking. The one who keeps his humanity intact and finds the will to live, that one is to be exalted. Not the one who submits to the will of the tempest and lies down in defeat, not the one who survives only by forgetting humanity and becoming an animal. Modern society seems to offer us two choices: suicide or personal-humanity destruction. But the sage strives for the first.

  • I think you´re in danger of creating a false dichotomy there; there aren´t two choices at all, there are many choices. However I will accept that *society* does seem to simplify matters down to this-or-that selections - it´s a lot easier for most people to swallow than complex answers, no matter how true those be. We live in a dumbed down world however to get to the point of the post; ok the girl isnt intesrested in you any more. we´ve all been there, and it hurts. I was in love with an absolutley stunning girl once, gorgeous, great in bed, good fun - I blew it, she wasn´t interested anymore (although we´ve been friends for years since after a long coolin- off period) and I was gutted, I adored her and i thought my world had gone cold and dark. but you´ve still got to live, you can´t lie down in a funk, she aint gonna come back no matter how miserable you are, and only an idiot would contemplate harming himself over such a matter, besides that´s shocking emotional blackmail imo. it´s something you have to go through - makes you appreciate the next one more. I went through several hundred dates and one-night stands, umpteen semi-serious relationships (weeks or months long) several serious relationships (living together etc) and one wife before i met Mrs Taw. Ant bust-up with someone is invariably not easy but really, don´t fret about it - go and do something else to take your mind off it!

"for once, i`ll actually tell you what i was thinking; but maybe i won`t have anything to say.."

  • Hey I was right in the birthday thread when you said 10 points to whoever guessed why you were happy...were happy that is... So where´s my points? And cheer up...there´s tons of girls around. If one cant see your good points another will...trust me. We´ve all been through it. from bp

  • DemonSlayer : I can´t agree with your first statement for a second. From the cuts in my arms I think I can say that when you really begin to consider suicide, you´re not a coward. Desperate? Perhaps. But it´s not cowardice! Arania : I know

  • Ok, first off, go ahead, take the easy way out of life. It is cowardice, no one can deny that it is no matter how hard they try to get around the fact. It´s a stupid selfish cowardice act.

  • Once again: I fail to see how it takes strength to elect oblivion over facing the maelstrom of life. Edited by - Wilde on 9/13/2005 2:54:16 PM

  • Exactly, if you kill yourself than your scared to see what life has in store for you later on, just because it´s going bad for you at the moment. However if you tough it out, just long enough for the whole ordeal to work out, then you have true strength.

  • Utilizng the easy method is logic, not cowardice, though suicide really isn´t an appropriate resolution to this tribulation . Concentrate on a completely impertinant matter, and observe your suicidal/despondent urges recede.

  • Exactly what do you base that premise on? It´s ´easier´ to slack off in school than to do the work; is that logical? It´s ´easier´ to surrender in war than to fight till the end; is that logical? It is ´easier´ to refrain from exercise and only do what on a very base level you "feel" like doing; is that logical?
