I´m working on, you can maybe call it a campaign showing MS that making FL willbe worth it. Have been thinking a lot of things we can do...filling up MP servers, etc, etc...email me...maybe you can help. Any ideas on what we can do will be greatly appreciated. But it has to be big. Anyone have ideas on how we can maybe create big advertisement for FL? edit:Should maybe just note...the idea of filling up the MP servers wasn´t mine, I forget whose it was, but yea, I think its a great idea Edited by - sycho warrior on 9/24/2005 1:47:58 PM
Freelancer 2 what do you think the chances of it Happening are?
-
-
I think part of the problem is that the original Freelancer is politically "risky" in some respects. The wanted criminal "Sean Ashcroft" is a case in point.
-
I personally would love a sequal,and i´m sure almost all the players on the server i police would.I´d be interested in any plans and would help out as much as possible Music sig anyone? <EMBED src="http://www.soulchamber.us/uploads/b6647757c6.swf" menu=false quality=high scale=default bgcolor=#000000 WIDTH=424 HEIGHT=124 TYPE="application/x-shockwave-flash"> </EMBED> and like a phoenix i´ll return from the ashes....with the help of the re-spawn key<img src=smilies/icon_smile_tongue.gif width=15 height=15 border=0 align=middle>

The chances of a Freelancer 2 is close to none. Digital Anvil/Misrosoft needs to realise that Freelancer (and the like in the same category of games) may not be as popular as first-person shooters such as counter-strike or halo, but games like Freelancer has many fans out there. Personally I think freelancer is the best game ive ever played, it provided me with hours of good gameplay. However they will need to make it more interesting after the main storylike is finished. Also starlancer has good graphics for its age and provides even more hours of gameplay even though there is nothing after the story. We should make lists of what we want to be included in the next Freelancer if there is ever going to be one. Or at least they need to make an update. Freelancer still has many devoted fans out there...Digital Anvil needs to know that.
-
I hate to say it, but I just get the feeling that they simply abandoned it. First there´s all the delays -- as well as the fact that certain aspects were still incomplete -- it´s like they weren´t devoting enough resources to finishing of the game properly. And what activity have they done after it´s release? Basically there was a terrible problem with cheating, so they quickly made a minor patch for the server program. And for the game itself, there´s been nothing. If they still had any interest in FL, they would have released patches for the game, improved cheat protection for MP servers...and maybe even provided dedicated servers themselves. As for the developers, DA, I think I heard they were working on something else...possibly an X-Box 360 game. So if you´re talking about Freelancer 2, I´m seriously doubtful. But if you´re talking about a completely new game following the "Freelancer" concept, we can only hope that someone else (preferrably a big company who can afford a large budget) decides to give it a shot

I think the chances are pretty good...... ...That a lot of people (including me) are going to go insane waiting and hoping for a Freelancer 2.
-
I have stated this previously: Niche Market Original released years ago Original anvil devs have left (I beleive) Lack of hit/succes Other projects Politcally Impossible, according to Breslin Thus, it is highly improbable that FL2 will EVER be created officially.
-
I could tell straight off that it was politically a dicey game, because it pokes a lot of fun at the United States with a privatized police force and the use of prison labor to make consumer goods. But to have a top official in the game dev realm say it was also a political risk is pretty weird/odd/sad simultaneously.
-
I don´t think its ever gonna happen, while I was hooked on the demo instantly, MS isn´t gonna do anything for it, it wasnt a major game if you look at the big picture. The best chance for us to get a sequel is to have the BEST modders and game editors on TLR try to get the game Source Code so we can make, new ships, systems, everything, and mabe make the sirius sector a nother sub category like in the galaxy, and then we can submit it to microsoft or we can distribute it. Us making it is probabally the best chance. But it would be pretty cool if MS would do it though. I´m A Forum Bowser!
-
I have to agree, surely MS/DA would be willing to release the source code so long after the games release and with little interest in making a sequel its a dead franchise? This wouldbe everyones best bet and if all the Modding community could join forces we´d have one heck of a new game on our hands..
-
I think the best chance of an official Freelancer 2 being made is if some other company takes interest in the game and buys the rights. It might be crappy then, however, since switching developers almost always results in horrible end product.
-
I understand the politically risky stuff, but I say ´IT IS A GAME IN SPACE´, what lamoes are going to equate it to reality? In fact, I view the game as spectacular fun, and spend most of my time patching up reps and trading goods to bother with any supposed politics. However, the chances of a sequel are about the same as George W. Bush being voted the cleverest man in the world. This is not to ignore the fact that WE WANT A SEQUEL (especially one where can actually join the damned factions <img src=smilies/icon_smile.gif width=15 height=15 border=0 align=middle> )

As far as filling up servers, we´d have to do enough to swamp the global server, which not only means filling up existing severs, but adding new ones. Now that some of the larger places have gone to direct IP connect instead of through the global serval that´ll be difficult. Mind you I live about twenty five miles from Bill Gates. Maybe I should just go slap him in the face and tell him to make FL 2.
-
Hehehehehe, J DAWG, slapping Billy boy would problely get you thrown into Lake Washington. I dont live all that far from there myself (Bonney Lake). And I take you are a Huskie fan, too. I would like to see a new Freelancer as well. One with more story lines, not just one. And an other thing, the name: Freelancer 2. The number "2" has been done to death in so many things, movies are a big violator of the "2" theme. I would like to suggest a different name: Freelancer Enhanced. But I think that unless the Freelancer community designs and imploments a new Freelancer, I dont think Redmond is going to do it. By the way, J DAWG, have you ever been invited to Microsoft to evaluate some program or change to an exsisting program and gotten a free gift from them for your time? They have a lot of programs you can get (encluding Freelancer, Starlancer, etc) and/or hardware. So far I´ve gotten Freelancer, Combat Flight simulator, and a new keyboard from them. I gotta say that I dont really see anything that political about freelancer. They made a few cracks here and there but on the whole,I think it was all fairly innocuous. I dont see how it can possibly be seen as enorsing one wayo r the other. But then again, theres plenty of people that love to create problems out of nowhere. However, I dont think a game like Freelancer is mainstream enough to atttract attention from those kinds of people.
-
<i>I would like to suggest a different name: Freelancer Enhanced. </i> Morgan- This would be already implied in the expansion pack/newgame. <img src=smilies/icon_smile.gif width=15 height=15 border=0 align=middle> People who make a big deal out of the ´politics´ of Freelancer generally are like the people who think Grand Theft Auto ruins children... <img src=smilies/icon_smile_disapprove.gif width=15 height=15 border=0 align=middle>
-
Unfortanatly i dont think Freelancer two will ever be made by MS because (as so many have said) it is not mainstream but maybe if we could show MS that there is still a loyal following of Freelancer and get a massive petition and get every one who plays freelancer to sign it once then there is a slight chance of a Freelancer 2 being made. Remember nothing is impossible just improbable. Bang, Bang. You never saw me coming

Isn´t DA gone? Ran out by Microsoft? Becuase I have not seen anything else made by them. The opnly games would be Starlancer and Freelancer maded by them, I am sure there are a few others but can´t name them by memory. MS will not make a new FL, becuase they know it´s not going to make huge money, sad to say. What your going to full up every server with what a total of 130,00 people? Wow MS might say........"Who cares." 130000 x 50 = ?? around 6.5 mill? That´s not a lot fot microsoft. We need to see business sight, not player, they want to see HUGE NUMBERS. Like m1ybe see 1 or even 2 million people play this game. I am pretty sure there is like less then 100 k that play MP big time. A pention is never going to work, I´ve look at the biggest one and it´s like........4k sigs. WOW MS might have something to burn during their tea. I know this sounds like a run for your life, but I am tired of hearing people talk about FL2, I am done careing about a second FL. Yea sure it´s a great dream, but most people are thinking what they want to see for FL2, not what DA or even MS see. I´ve played games that I liked and then they come out wtih a second one and ruin the game play. But the chances of MS or even DA coming with a FL2 is like.........0. I´ve hear microsoft got mad at DA becuase they were lacking behind and failed to meet due dates and had to fix the game for release very quicky. I don´t know if that is true but I´ve hear so many thing about DA and MS. But it;s not going to happen in this time. Maybe in the future MS will sell the Copyright of FL to some other company and DA can continue their great game........but right now.....it´s mot going to happen. after youve rewritten that in understandable english, please add what you think we can do. not just "o its not going to happen"
-
Theres nothing we can do. The fact being that its just not in microsofts favor to make a new game for a fanbase of about 5000 people. Thats just not worth it. Our best bet is either: 1. Get the source code from them, or 2. Get the SUR and ALE file specs from them <img src=smilies/icon_smile_tongue.gif width=15 height=15 border=0 align=middle>
