Long time gone, just checking in to see what is up

  • Hi guys and girls

8 years away or close to it. I am amazed to see that Lancerthing still has mentions in the archives, no idea if it is still working or valid as I lost all the code and stuff about 3 computers ago.

Anyway, just dropping in to say hi, and if I ever get the urge to play again, I might see about getting visual basic up and running again LOL (like yeah I'm really going to make myself suffer all that again).

    Shoot first, fly safe

  • Its pretty disappointing to see an old player not coming back to play the game...
Anyway, good thing you remembered TLR! If you still want, there are ways to get the game nowdays.

  • Oh hell guys, even an old soak like me actually remembered how to a) find an old copy on a cd somewhere, b) find the no CD crack and c) get it to work on windows 7 LMAO

Now, having started to play again, does anyone know if a version of my little project Lancerthing is still somewhere that I can download it?

  • Thx Aesth,

i found a ref like the one Bob said and yeah it's gone, but yours worked just coolio... until I opened it at it was fail :(

Hmm, corrupt archive... ok, no worries, I have another version of the archive, and I notice the working ver is a slightly different filesize...

    EDIT:
Just peeked at the readme for that zip, there's a mention of "Rowlette's Revenge', and you not finding a selling base or wreck for it...

You get it from the tractored loot in SP Campaign mode, just after you fly through the jumpgate on your way to meet Juni at Cali Minor, where a FP7 survivor in a rhino comes to talk to you and 3 liberty navy jocks blow him out of the sky... Don't forget to whack the 3 navy boys too...

  • I scrolled further down and got version 2.3 (about page 4) so no worries.
Yeah i never really got around to rowletts revenge hehe.

Anyway I'm glad someone somewhere kept the app, as a fail HD lost all the work I did back then. TBH, I don't even know if I could do it all again.

  • If you only knew how many times I had to re-make my mod from the very beginning... So much bad And no, I didn't quit yet!

Well done for picking your project up again!

  • Opened the latest Crossfire mod (page 1 of mods) and McAfee found 2 trojans when adding it to FLMM.

Has anyone got a version without trojans in it? It seems the trojans were in some text files and this causes IDS problems on some items.
I'll reload it and see if i can find the actual files when McAfee stomps on them.

Good news - I made it all the way through the story and only died 15 times lmfao. (Vanilla). And thank you to the nice person who created the hovis race bypass mod - that was the most annoying damn thing ever invented in gaming.

  • Nah, most annoying thing in gaming...

X3 Reunion... Follow your '"Father's ship" through a tunnel in an asteroid, in the dark, with walls whose joints are not properly sealed (so you can fly out of the tunnel into the solid rock, and can't find the gap again to get back because its dark, and the 1 sided textures make the gap in the wall invisible), and the 3 evil npc wimps following you can kill your ship just by getting within a couple of clicks of your tail, without even firing, and the script writer assumed that you WILL still be flying an A-Hole Federation M4 class Busted Space Inferiority Fighter with no engine or rudder upgrades, instead of the maxed out top-of-the-line combat-sleekness M3 class Spit Mambo Rapist, that you ACTUALLY fly, and set your speed and handling accordingly, so you die and reload, die and reload, so many times...

That's the most annoying thing in gaming...

erm.... i didn't say i WOULD restart the project lol. One of my peeves were people emailing me asking if it worked for all the mods, and sadly no as I hardcoded the data into a compiled exe file. Getting a prog to actively read the datafiles was a bit beyond me back then, and i suspect the exe would have been ten times bigger and i'd be in a nuthouse if I'd attempted it.

Anyways if i did restart Lancerthing it would mean i'd have to find a 'free' version of visual basic again, as Microtoss ask too much money for ANY of their products.
