IONCROSS issues...

  • I was not sure if I should post a new thread or revive a SERIOUSLY dead thread already started in here, but anyway, I am coming back to Freelancer again and have beaten the single player campaign again. I am now looking to play with some things I never really did the first couple times around. As such, I was looking into editing my save games so I can do some testing of sorts, but I can not seem to get IONCROSS to work. When not in admin mode, when I launch the program it comes up with "runtime error 75: path/file access error", so I run it in admin. Now its running in admin and I still get the same error about 95% of the time. It took me about 25 tries or more to get it to finally go through, sometimes it would error out at file 3, sometimes 15... it seemed totally random. When I finally got it loaded and I tried to edit a file, I get "Runtime error 339: Component 'comdlg32.ocx' or one of its dependencies is missing or not correctly installed" or something like that. I am at a total loss here.

I have read other posts and tried some of the solutions posted, but none have worked yet. I welcome any input offered. If there is a different/more stable way of editing saved games, please let me know.

    Thank you in advance.

  • have you tried to set compatibility to winxp?

    what OS do you use?

a solution which also might work:
    1. download the runtimes http://activex.microsoft.com/controls/vb6/comdlg32.cab
    2. extract the files
3.1. if you are running a 32bit OS you have to copy the files into c:/Windows/system32
3.2. if you are running a 64bit OS these files need to be copied to c:/Windows/SysWOW64
    4. now press the windows-key + R and type CMD
    5. into the black does promt you either type "regsvr32 c:/Windows/system32/comdlg32.ocx" or "regsvr32 c:/Windows/SysWOW64/comdlg32.ocx" -> depending on where you have put the files in step 3

  • Ok... path file access errors while running under WinDont Hate...

Sounds like a classic "do not install moddable games or modding tools to C:\Program Files\" UAC problem.

Where did you install FL, what folder path?

    [edit]

Reinstall FL to C:\Games|Freelancer or to a sub dir of a \games in your user area, install iron cross to a 'tools' sub dir of FL, that should avoid the UAC access problems caused by running WinDont Vaster/Windont 7/ Windont Hate versions.

Started following the instructions in the web page:

    http://www.lancersreactor.org/…age=Thread&threadID=45144

    [Window Title]
    RegSvr32

    [Content]
The module "c:/Windows/SysWOW64/comdlg32.ocx" was loaded but the call to

DllRegisterServer failed with error code 0x80004005.

For more information about this problem, search online using the error code

    as a search term.

    [OK]

Gone through and I uninstalled Freelancer completely and tried to get it

reinstalled. This was a very slow, Slow going but it did install.

Realizing that I was following instructions for Windows 8.1 I halted it and

found my self needing to restart my computer and then I got it re-

    installed.

I created a backup copy of the saved game and such and then I gone in and I

had to put it back in.

I found my self back to square one with the last error which crashes the

    editor.

I then did some more research on this issue.

I copied the files from the zip file in to the system 32 folder in the

windwos folder and in to the sys wow 64 folder.

    Same issue.

I then gone in and followed the instructions:

3.1. if you are running a 32bit OS you have to copy the files into

    c:/Windows/system32
3.2. if you are running a 64bit OS these files need to be copied to

    c:/Windows/SysWOW64
    4. now press the windows-key + R and type CMD
    5. into the black does promt you either type "regsvr32

    c:/Windows/system32/comdlg32.ocx" or "regsvr32

c:/Windows/SysWOW64/comdlg32.ocx" -> depending on where you have put the

    files in step 3

    [Window Title]
    RegSvr32

    [Content]
The module "c:/Windows/system32/comdlg32.ocx" was loaded but the call to

DllRegisterServer failed with error code 0x80004005.

For more information about this problem, search online using the error code

    as a search term.

    [OK]

I then worked on doing some more research using the value:

The module "c:/Windows/system32/comdlg32.ocx" was loaded but the call to

DllRegisterServer failed with error code 0x80004005.

Doing this in Bing Web search, Google Web search, and Yahoo web search..

doing so I unearthed this place: http://www.lancersreactor.org/index.php?

    page=Thread&threadID=44574

So at this point I am stuck and I just got the same thing over and over

    again.

    =============================================================

    Wind 2 of this issue...

I did a restart of my computer and this is what I did after that...

    I did do a search ofcomdlg32.ocx

Happened on this web page: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-

    us/windows/forum/windows_7-windows_programs/component-comdlg32ocx-or-one-

    of-its-dependencies/0b1d6e17-e39c-4b00-920d-80e38df598e0

when doing the first one: regsvr32 /u Comdlg32.ocx it succeeded.

When doing the second one: regsvr32 /i Comdlg32.ocx it came up with the

    following:

    [Window Title]
    RegSvr32

    [Content]
The module "Comdlg32.ocx" was loaded but the entry-point DllInstall was not

    found.

Make sure that "Comdlg32.ocx" is a valid DLL or OCX file and then try

    again.

    [OK]

So doing a search for: "The module "Comdlg32.ocx" was loaded but the

entry-point DllInstall was not found." was going to happen till I was

reading the comments and then I found the following link:

    http://www.sevenforums.com/bsod-help-support/59463-comdlg32-

    ocx.html#post711841

I then used the command in command prompt: regsvr32 %Systemroot%

    \System32\comdlg32.ocx - Succeeded.

I also used the following command: regsvr32 %Systemroot%\SysWOW64\comdlg32.ocx - Succeeded.

I then got back in to the ioncross program and seen what that will do.

    Finally!

    It got working for me!!

    Hope my second wind helped.
