Yesterday I received a mail from the german PC Games magazine informing me that they have published an article which suggests alternatives to StarCitizen.
The development of the new Chris Roberts game will take quiet some time and the main question that this articles deals with is "what to play meanwhile?".
Top suggestion number one: Crossfire 1.9
Next to our Freelancer mod two other projects were presented; a Wing Commander fan project and a BGS mod based on the Freespace engine.
The article about Crossfire explains that this is not just a mod... "it is almost a new game". Showing the new features and even giving a step by step installation instruction this article covers what the Crossfire 1.9 mod has to offer very well and also mentions the upcoming Crossfire 2.0 mod.
Below you can find a link to the original article and the almost 7mins long video review which belongs to it.
Personally I think that it is great to know that people finally realize that the space sim genre is not dead and that there are good alternatives out there.
Warten auf Star Citizen: Drei kostenlose Weltraumhits zum sofort Losspielen!

This is good news. Good going, OP. Great the read about how successful this game has been since, it was dumped 12 years ago. Well, let's say 10 since M$ closed the servers down. Recognition on great mods is even better.

its sad that the community has become so small
but its always great to see when FL mods get public attention.i just think that lately fl modders have given up
even the big mod projects dont really make much progress... their modders are mostly inactivejust alone the mod awards 2014 showed that only 2-3 mod teams were still interested in getting attention.
not that long ago we had 3-4 fl mod reaching the top 100 of the mod awards but this time only Crossfire was nominatedfor me and my team its good to be in the top 100 for the 8th time but for the FL community as a whole it is disappointing that many other mod projects didnt even care to attend in the awards

It's also a shame that all the people that have played it for all these years, don't log in to vote for just any Freelancer mod now. If they would, interest may return when so many others visit to vote for any other mod.
Whenever someone asks me what my favorite game is and I tell them, 'Freelancer' they've not even heard of it these days. It's not gone yet.

we can only try to constantly remind people that this game still exists
