Starship Troopers

 • Bad attention to detail by the director... or 1/2 pound gun of the future ------------------------------ We live in a sad world... the only way we can fix it... is for everyone to unite... and smash up there PS2´s... - Blitzkrieg

 • Well, the director himself said that he didn´t want to get across any points from the book, just make a cool movie about a war in space, so I don´t know how Heinlein would have felt about it. Myself, I think the movie was ok. If it would have been more like the book, or perhaps more like "Space: Above and Beyond" (where they actually wear suits), then I think it would have been one of my fav movies. However, there is the lovely show of ST, which was more of a combo between the movie and the book, and was done completely with CGI animation. You can find more info about that here.

 • I really did like the movie, but it could have been much better. They said that it would´ve been too expensive to have hundreds of people running around in the suits described in the book -- Well, okay then, tone down the suits, but at least have them COVER the soldiers. The average football player has better protection during a game than one of the movie´s troopers. And don´t give me that crap about the armor being some kind of strong metal. It doesn´t work if it doesn´t cover you. The only thing the movie armor protected a trooper from was the occasional loose-boweled pigeon, and even then it was only the head and part of the torso that were protected. At the very least they could´ve TRIED to impliment some form of bouncing. Instead, they used many, many soldiers to flood the battlefield, giving us plenty of cannon fodder to chop into gooey gibblets. As for the bugs... Anyone who saw the movie but didn´t read the book probably doesn´t know that the bugs were smarter in the books. They carried weapons (not to bludgeon with -- I´m talking about guns) and they didn´t run stupidly in mass droves at the humans practically roaring "Kill me first!" I´ve digressed this far (again), so I might has well go so far as to compare it to Wing Commander. From an average movie-goer´s POV, it´s a good movie. The scenes tend to be cut a bit short, and there´s reletively few special effects and combat sequences, but it was all-in-all a very good movie. But I´ve been a wingnut since WC first came out, and I was the first to jump up and shout about every colossol inaccuracy, and how *****ed up it was. But now I have it on DVD, because I can deal with that stuff and enjoy an okay movie. Just like I do with ST. As for the ST game, the demo I played was definately cool, but I´ve never been much of a strategy game player, so I haven´t picked up the full game yet. Final note: Space: Above and Beyond kicked serious butt. Too bad internal bickering at Fox resulted in a bad time slot, very little advertising, and the eventual cancellation.

 • I suggest buying the DVD version of STT. Theres a few cut screens on, such as an alternate ending (which is better then the one they used) and more ensight into the relationship Reco and Carman (They shouldnt have been cut) I think i remember watching an interview with the director that he whated the movie to be kind of like what Platoon was, atleast have the effect of what Platoon had on people. ------------------------------ We live in a sad world... the only way we can fix it... is for everyone to unite... and smash up there PS2´s... - Blitzkrieg

 • I have the DVD of STT and why the heck did they cut out the kissing under the tree scene? They showed boobies in the shower but cant show them kissing? --------------------- "I don´t know what the 3rd World War will be fought with, but the 4th will be fought with sticks and stones" - Albert Einstein
