Counting change...

  • Hmm, I still think that say every two months or so we should wipe everybody´s count away and start over. Everyone keeps the same name but has to go through the ranks again, also make more ranks, if possible. Just my thoughts, but don´t get rid of the OT, just make a limit on the number of threads available in OT. <img src=´http://dba.gamepoint.net/images/mssig.gif ´> The Major.

  • We should just dump public post counts altogether and have an elaborate rank system. Resetting post count would be a bad idea because that eliminates the whole idea. Eliminating post counts would be good, and add more ranks, and then special ranks for every thousand posts or something? <img src=´http://tachyon15.homestead.com/files/tlrsig.gif ´>

  • Tach basically means get rid of the post count number and add more ranks beyond Sqdr. Commander but make the ranks harder to achieve, like every 1000 or so posts. I personally think that it would be better if we were to not count the OT forum. And we mods will enforce the rule of no spam more. Also, i like the idea of mods being able to deduct posts. Muahahahahahahah!!!!!! <img src=´http://www.lancersreactor.org/images/news/barkeeper.gif ´>- A Message From Your Friendly Neighbourhood ElectricBrain

  • I have some thoughts on the subject. 1. Yer not going to eliminate spamming, many of us just can´t go an hour without saying something...even if it´s not related to anything. This is a fact! 2. With the pending overload we´re going to experience soon, I think eliminating older posts (and accompanying posts totals) should be a consideration. Reward for not only participation, but timely participation. If a member becomes inactive, then they should go down in rankings. 3. More ranks, wonderful idea. A section on the front page for all to see of the ranking system AND and little link to check standings. I didn´t even know this existed until about a week ago! 4. Rewards for posts? Blah, by looking at the posts counts this would always have the same Eye Dee Ten Tee´s on it and the standings would never change...boring. Plus this would only encourage spamming. 5. On the front page, how´s about a little space next to the ranking showing the latest member of TLR? At least everyone would get a short stint at stardome....their name in lights. Something like - "introducing our newest member of the Lancers Reactor family...xxxxxxx" Finally, a monthly poll to name the member with the most spam postings. Sort of a wall of shame. That would encourage less spamming. my 2 cents... • Yeah, thats my main idea. Maybe as well as ranks only we could have a prestige system, like "Member since..." or something Privelages would be bad, since people would spam to get them. Yeah, mods could take them away, but theres still all that spam. Maybe something like Bargib blesses us with holy water or something and we are from then on out "special"

    [img=http://tachyon15.homestead.com/files/tachsigbeta4.gif]

  • Yah, those are some nice ideas ya got there, Stinger. Gibby go check out the forums at GameFaqs.com They have this "Karma" system. Im not sure how it works but the more good posts u make the higher ur karma. Note that 1 post does not equal 1 karma. So basically i want u to take a look at it and put it into consideration. My karma there is -1 Lost 10 karma for just one swear word.....yeeeesh! <img src=´http://www.lancersreactor.org/images/news/barkeeper.gif ´>- A Message From Your Friendly Neighbourhood ElectricBrain

  • I think a simple revamp would do, make it so that post counts can´t be seen (except for those who know about the rank page, which will never be uttered again ) and have more ranks, for more advanced users. Won´t require much more programming (and thus time) for Bargib and will solve most of the problems (which wouldn´t be here if we could show a sliver of self-restraint, hehe)

  • Well, perhaps everybody has a point, but don´t steal my beautifull posts nooooooo! (j/k) a new ranking system sounds good, no PUBLIC post counts, more ranks, and that you progress slowely through the ranks, not as fast as now like that you hid squad commander at 200 or so, so it stays fun for people with 4000-5000 posts like EB Tach and me. ----------------------- Mad Dog <img src=´http://www.nukevillage.com/cgi…vatar/custom/00000002.jpg ´> United SL Modelers¸ Leave me alone!!!!! • How about: Lt. Commander at 100 instead of 80 Commander at 175 instead of 110 Flight Commandet at 300 instead of 150 Sqdr. Commander at 450 instead of 190 Then a medal for every 1000 posts A medal for adding intelligent content to the forums as I feel like it A medal for helping newbees with questions A medal for inventing great tactics A medal for ... ??? • U asked 4 it. Here´s the United Stated ranking system for Navy: Enlisted E1 = Seaman Recruit (SR) E2 = Seaman Apprentice (SA) E3 = Seaman (SN) E4 = Petty Officer Third Class (PO3) E5 = Petty Officer Second Class (PO2) E6 = Petty Officer First Class (PO1) E7 = Chief Petty Officer (CPO) E8 = Senior Chief Petty Officer (SCPO) E9 = Master Chief Petty Officer (MCPO) AND Fleet/Command Master Chief Petty Officer NOTE * the master chief petty officer of the Navy is the spokespersons of the enlisted force at the highest levels of their services. Officers W1 = Warrant Officer 1 * The grade of Warrant Officer W-1 is no longer in use. W2 = Chief Warrant Officer 2 CWO2 W3 = Chief Warrant Officer 3 CWO3 W4 = Chief Warrant Officer 4 CWO4 01 = Ensign ENS 02 = Lieutenant Junior Grade LTJG 03 = Lieutenant LT 04 = Lieutenant Commander LCDR 05 = Commander CDR 06 = Captain CAPT 07 = Rear Admiral Lower Half RADM (LH) 08 = Rear Admiral Upper Half RADM (UH) 09 = Vice Admiral VADM 10 = Admiral ADM - Chief of Naval Operations 11 = Fleet Admiral (Reserved for wartime only) As you can see, there´s lots of levels to choose form. And this is for Naval only. If you want to see what offered in other armed forced areas and more details on specifics, just check HERE That a mouthful eh?

  • There needs to be wartime ranks since we´re at war Don´t put in THAT many though. Basically make the lower ranks a little harder to get then add really hard to get ranks for older members. Oh, medals are an excellant idea A medal for newbie assistance would be good, a medal for good posts, and maybe even a medal for driving off trolls Edited by - Tachyon on 19-01-2002 19:26:54

  • how about a medal for modeling ( i should get a lot) like on medal per model i mad. a medal for stupidity (this way tach can get a medal too) Ive been on a few forms before 2 of them reseted their post counts (everyone starts again at 0, one of the forums died out and the other became a spamming frensie ----------------------- Mad Dog <img src=´http://www.nukevillage.com/cgi…vatar/custom/00000002.jpg ´> United SL Modelers¸ Leave me alone!!!!! • I like many of these ideas! I like the slashdot system, with ´Karma.´ From what I´ve heard, you can rate a post from -1 through to 5, (only mods actually), and mods can rate the posts as "troll, informative, funny, flame, etc...". This (hopefully) makes a competition between more quality posts. (ie: My 3 +5 post counts beats your 20 posts totaling 9 points!) Heh heh, a "wall of shame" may be neat. I wonder which few people may be competing for the top spot (more like bottom spot)? Oh, maybe some sort of posts/rate thing. (As in, this person puts in an average of 20 posts per day (Some people), or an average of .5 posts per day (as in me)). This way we could tell if one person totally spams their way up the boards, and makes sqdr. commander in 3 weeks. My memory´s getting rather shot now.. but I think I have another comment to make about the medals. There should be something that tells you that " 15 Newbie Helping Medals given to Whasp Commander on 02/4/15-02/4/16-02/4/17, etc.... and possibly links to the posts that won the award. I also like that idea about your rank going down after inactivity. No use holding down your 1000 post count if you´re not going to be existant any more. Certain people should be granted "Immortality". (Ie: Pheonix). Oh! Another thing kinda to do with karma. What some boards have (ie. slashdot) is if your karma is high enough, you could be elected to become a moderator. (with limited powers of course.) Appointed moderators would have unlimited access, (EB, Stinger, you´re lucky), but someone who contributes a lot of important information would have some sort of limited access. (Unable to mod more than X amount per day, unable to mod their own stuff, etc.) Personally, I think TLR is the perfect size for lots of stuffs. (Attained mods (those with high karma) may have more power than I explained above). I think now I´m hopefully out of ideas. (Do I get the longest constructive post medal?) • Oops, I forgot something! That "ranks" page, I´ve noticed that it only shows your post count as related to amount of posts. (Ie: Bargib isn´t Admiral, he´s just Sqdr. Cmdr., and EB isn´t whatever he is.) Perhaps this page should be revamped to display your true whatnots. Hay! I just thought of something! Instead of having all my ideas in one big post, I could split them into 1 post per idea, and get more post counts! (That´s exactly what karma tries to avoid, I think) Why make your own mistakes when someone else has already made them for you? -Learn from the skeletons floating in the pirahna pool: NO SWIMMING! Moderator for NukeVillage.

  • guys user rating and post rating won´t be good, first it´ll suck and second the mods don´t have the time or will to rate all the posts and if you make them do it anyway they´ll just give the posts ratings without even reading them, this forum is too big to rate all posts, we have one webmaster and 4 or so of his "helpers" of wich 2 are currently active ----------------------- Mad Dog <img src=´http://www.nukevillage.com/cgi…vatar/custom/00000002.jpg ´> United SL Modelers¸ Leave me alone!!!!!
