Infidel: "Is the SC hardware or software?" It´s both hardware and software :-) It looks like a big mouse u use with the left hand. But it´s something more similar to a joystick since you can move the pad you put your hand on on the xy axies. It has 6 buttons + 3 "shift" buttons = 6 x (3+1) (1 is "no shift) = 24 progrmmable buttons + 2 zoom buttons (but u can use them for whatever u want not just zoom) + a switch that allows u to change 3 different presets + "on the fly" key assignement (u can assign commands to buttons while u are in game) + macros It´s a USB device and works fine on Win 2000 and XP too

MS is not gonna cancel FL. If they wanted to they would have done that 1 year ago. Not now Also...I think they won´t delay the release for marketing reason if not for a couple of weeks. What I mean is that if the game will be rdy in September...well they will release it immediatly. If its ready at the end of November...there is the possibility they will delay it for 2-3 weeks in order to get it in the shops for the Christmas presents shopping

Keyboard + mouse here. Or Strategic Commander instead of keyboard. The SC is a great toy to play videogames. I just wish they used an anlogic control on the xy axies :-/ U won´t have any fun using the joystick.

I hope there will be the possibility to use the NN in a "smarter" or less smart way. What I mean is that I hope if a pilot is better than one with a better NN, he can still have chances to win by usign complex combination of manouvers that will make difficult hitting to the other pilot.

If they remove inertia they are a bunch of damn fools! :-( This is no Space Invaders, this is Freelancer a 2002 game! That´s the reason why I am pretty sure there will be inertia. And that would give the NN a better reason to exist. Edited by - XBlade on 24-03-2002 16:29:29

As for the NeuroNet, that should be exactly the way it works. U select "evasive manouvers" and it will perform some nice evasive moves...expecially when u get the upgrades and have a good NN

BTW, catfish...the NN has been designed EXPECIALLY for combat. There would be no need for anything else. For navigation a normal auto-pilot would have been enough. So it will be dumb to deactivate NN in combat

Yeah I thought exactly the same, catfish. Also, since it´s the civilian fighter it will probably have very weak shields and armor. As for the navigation in the asteroid fields, I think cheap NN will have porblems. More evolved ones will do it easily. Surely, if u want to have fun u can do it manually, but I don´t think it will be a good idea if it happens to be fighting in there

The game is not designed to be played with joystick. You won´t be able to fight with it. If there will be any way to use it you will be extremely penalized if u do. It´s a completely different way of controlling the ship so the joystick will be useless. MUSTANG: If u do that u will be terribly slow in aiming because there will be a good physical engine and the ships will be affected by inertia. So if u have to move the whole ship to aim to a target you will be 100 time slowler than me that will be able to move my weapons using the mouse and shoot in that direction. Anyone who has played a Mechwarrior game and know what torso twisting and freelook are and how they affect combat can understand what I mean. Edited by - XBlade on 23-03-2002 13:22:03

DREAD PIRATE ROBERTS: "i think if you look real close in the second video you can see the mouse clicking on points after which the ship would turn and face that point. maybe its just me though but thats what i interpretted it as." I´ve noticed that too. But its not clicking on points and then moving. The player is controlling the ship directly by moving the mouse. No point&click, but movements of the mouse = movements of the ship. I think that´s the famous CTRL button at work The HUD looks great to me. I can´t wait to see a movie in which we can better see how the interface works. This game is gonna kick arses. Edited by - XBlade on 22-03-2002 19:34:56

I´ve found out that when I play a game 16-18 hours a day like I will be doing with FL I don´t need to eat more than one time a day I will also have big Coke bottles nearby and that should be enough to keep me alive

"the beta application has been closed now" And when did they open???? Edited by - XBlade on 19-03-2002 12:25:32

Hehehe....yeah, and the worst thing it´s that presumably it was not a computer repairing it but a repair team Anyway, as I said I found the gameplay very nice too. I think FL will be much more refined since they´ve been working on it for ages
