I was using Nomad Cannons only when I started playing Freelancer, but now I exclusively make use of the Nomad Blasters. As you said yourself, damage is almost identical. What the Blasters have in advantage over the Cannons IMHO is their increased rate of fire and thus their increased chance to hit. More shots fired = more chances to hit.

Take a look at the cameras.ini in your freelancerdata folder. For manipulation of the GUI position you need to change the fovx = value in the [WinCamera section. The higher the number the more the GUI gets placed toward the center of your screen. Lower numbers mean the GUI is placed in the outer areas of the screen. Althou fovx = suggests manipulation of the x axis only, both x and y axis are manipulated. If the aspect ratio looks stretched, you may want to change the fovx = values of the [CockpitCamera, [ThirdPersonCamera and [DeathCamera sections to slightly higher numbers. There isn´t some command line switch to tell freelancer the resolution it has to run at? :Edit I almost forgot: you could try to run the game in a window by applying "-w" (without the " ) as a command line switch. This way the Desktop would be displayed in widescreen 16:10 while the game stays at 4:3. Edited by - Preacher0815 on 10/2/2005 4:40:12 AM

Won´t work for me. The Nomads just don´t show up. I then tried to reuse an already existing loadout from the storyline. They show up just fine. But the Nomads in both of the Unknown systems have the exact same loadout as the Nomads I want to use in my encounter, althou both refer to a completely different loadout each. loadouts.ini for the unchanged loadout in EW05 and EW06:
[Loadout nickname = no_fighter_loadout02 archetype = no_fighter equip = ge_nf_engine_01 equip = infinite_power equip = ge_s_scanner_02 equip = no_thruster, HpThruster01 equip = armor_scale_9 equip = nomad_gun01_mark03, HpWeapon01 equip = nomad_gun01_mark03, HpWeapon02 equip = nomad_gun01_mark03, HpWeapon03 cargo = special_nomad_gun01, 1 cargo = special_nomad_gun02, 1
for the changed loadout in BW06 the Nomads have:
[Loadout nickname = MSN13_Nomad_Fighter_Pop archetype = no_fighter equip = ge_nf_engine_01 equip = infinite_power equip = ge_s_scanner_02 equip = no_thruster, HpThruster01 equip = nomad_gun01_mark01, HpWeapon01 equip = nomad_gun01_mark01, HpWeapon02 equip = nomad_gun01_mark01, HpWeapon03 equip = nomad_cruise_disruptor01, HpTorpedo01 cargo = nomad_cruise_disruptor01_ammo, 50 cargo = ge_s_battery_01, 7 cargo = ge_s_repair_01, 4
npcships.ini for the unchanged encounter in EW05 and EW06:
[NPCShipArch nickname = fc_n_no_fighter_d19 loadout = no_fighter_loadout02 level = d19 ship_archetype = no_fighter pilot = MSN13_Nomad_Fighter state_graph = FIGHTER npc_class = unlawful, FIGHTER, d19
for the changed encounter in BW06:
[NPCShipArch nickname = MSN13_Nomad_Fighter_Populator loadout = MSN13_Nomad_Fighter_Pop level = d19 ship_archetype = no_fighter pilot = MSN13_Nomad_Fighter state_graph = FIGHTER npc_class = unlawful, FIGHTER, d19
Looks like I have to create a new faction.

There are a couple of games, but none of them matches all of the requirements. Strange Adventures In Outer Space... ... if I rember the title correctly. You are hired by some sort of galactic billionaire and have to explore some area in space off limits to normal folks. Your goal is to bring back as many exciting and valuable artifacts as possible, while trying to survice space monsters, super novae, pirates or hostile aliens. During your journey you can upgrade your ship with the stuff you´ve found and even hire wingmen to support you fighting the baddies. Trade is limited to trading for artefacts with other races you come across. Each game is limited to 15 minutes realtime, but despite thar short period of time the game is great fun. Escape Velocity Nova You play as the hero created by the universe itself, althou not yet knowing. All of the races were once human, but due to some dark fate the colonies were separated and developed independently from each other. Some mastered the art of using the power of their mind to shapeshift into shipy, allowing them to travel through space without the help of anything else. Others made psychical and technical advancements, so they can build ships which don´t rely on true newtonian space physics as we know it anymore and have the best equipment for theit ships, but live so isolated it´s very hard to make contact with them. It´s your choice which party you help to achieve their goals. Flatspace Nothing extraordinary, but dynamic trade (iirc) and a lot of exploration. Space Rangers Dynamic trade, upgradeable ship, part 2 also has freighter hulls, and extremely difficult to beat. Has planetary quests in the form of text adventures, where you mostly have to solve riddles. In the beginning, cash is hard to come by and best earned by trading. Once you break the 300.000 credits barrier, you can start making missions given to you by the planetary secretary. That´s not because of the difficulty level of the missions, but rather because of the limited number of missions which give more pay the more cash you already have. Part two also has planetary RTS quests. A german magazine gave it around 60%. Althou the game is very difficult, that rating IMHO is too low. I´d give it some 80%. It´s the best I have played in a long while. What all titles have in common: 2D and singleplayer only. There are of course the old classics like Elite, Frontier, Privateer, Solar Winds, Hardwar and newer titles like the "X" series. Alas, I surely forgot to mention half of similar titles. I´ll post them as soon as I remember them

Other players won´t see a thing until you modify your charfile directly, which is to be found only on the server. Or you mess with loadouts.ini and risk being kicked for "ship or equipment not sold at base" while rebuying your ship to make the changes active, because your modded loadout differs from what the server expects it to be.

It is, if you know how to handle the filters of an Excel like application, the search and replace function of WIndows´ Notepad and the search & replace of a hex editor of your choice. Took me 4mins to do it all. Alternatively, you can download my stripped-of-all-the-level-requirements version here Oh, and it´s not just the level requirements I removed, the reputation requirements are gone, too. Thats the weirdest stuff I heard in a long time. There´s no serial, not on the case, not in the manual. The only serial, which is for multiplayer only, is generated by Freelancer itself as soon as you try to access the multiplayer functions, but only if they´re not present in the registry of your system anymore. And that only happens when you reinstall the whole Windows operating system. However it may happen on some systems that the process of automatically generating a new multiplayer account id doesn´t work. This is something that should be fixed by installing the official Freelancer Patch, which can be found here.
