That gives the father 2 days to the mother´s 12!

anyone who´s read 1984 or Brave New World know what this is all about and the ideas arent that new

<font face=´trebuchet ms, Verdana, Arial, Helvetica´ size=2> You missed the most obvious influence! Fahrenheit 451 of course! But yeah, it´s pretty much an amalgam of various bits of dystopian literature and kung fu thrown in. Personally I found the fight scenes a bit silly till the final fight. The way they kept trying to draw aim and simulatneously block the other guy from doing so was really cool.

I have a second uncle who now lives in Florida. He owns a petrol station out there and after 9/11 he started to make a killing. It seemed the general public had decided they would rather go to the one petrol station in the area run by a white guy (despite the fact that he´s a foreigner)rather than go to one of those "brown-skinned" people who may or may not have links to terrorism. I know it´s not fair and it´s a knee-jurk reaction but it does reflect some of the general opinions that terrorism has created.

- The rest into my ISA

<font face=´trebuchet ms, Verdana, Arial, Helvetica´ size=2> Now that would take a while considering you can only put a maximum of £3000 into your ISA each year!

It´s difficult to tell whether the changes in temperature are directly due to pollution and the greenhouse effect or whether we´re just going through another slight wobble in the earths orbit (the same cause behind the ice ages). Or even if both are making a contribution. If it is just a slight wobble in the Earth´s orbit though, it could start to get colder again in 10 years time?

it´s only going to get worse over the next few years. in the end hardly anyone will be able live there, there´ll be too many vicious storms

<font face=´trebuchet ms, Verdana, Arial, Helvetica´ size=2> huh? Where did that come from? Is there something you know that the meteorologists don´t?

I´m a vet? When did that happen!? Do I get special super powers now?

ah, you´re online Taw? I was meaning to ask you whether you´d heard of Koyaanisqatsi? It´s supposed to be similar in many ways to that Baraka movie you mention from time to time. Anyway, if you haven´t, it´s definitely worth checking out.

I saw it at Christmas too. I loved all those little extra touches, the way the cyclists were depicted as if they were racehorses for example. I also found myself sniggering like a little kid when they reveal how they repair the puncture on the truck tyre. I was thinking of seeing it at the movies but instead ended up seeing Miyazaki´s Spirited Away.

that´s the first I heard of that too! Where did she/he go? Don´t forget Puppychow; Jim Groovester´s sister if I recall correctly. I think she just joined briefly to wind him up, I haven´t seen hide nor hair of her since.

Lucky bugger, I wish I could visit SA but I´m about to become the poor student stereotype in just 2 weeks time

I don´t know about you guys, but I´m jealous of Fjord´s hair!

ouch Chris, I´ve yet to break a bone that big, but fingers and ribs hurt bad enough! Anyway, look on the bright side, that plaster cast is like a girl magnet, you´ll get so much sympathy you´ll be loving it!

I don´t mean to be funny but I see a red moon a couple of times each year at least. Is that really the first time you´ve seen it kimk? Each time I´ve seen it, it´s low in the sky to the east.

If you take the countries that used to compete together as the USSR in the past and add their medal tally together you get at least 152 medals! (I combined the medal counts of Belarus, Azerbaijan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Georgia, Russia and Kazahkstan). It would seems there´s been no particularly drop in the talent coming from the region. Interestingly enough, Holland gained a medal in mountain biking! Congrats guys, you did extremely well considering how flat a lot of your country is!

There are some moves being made to counter the improvement in technology. IIRC the world record for distance cycled in one hour in a velodrome was smashed by "some french guy" (sorry, can´t remember his name). No one managed to beat his record until the bike technology improved. Eventually the appropriate governing body decided that these world records were no longer valid since Mr."some french guy" hadn´t been able to compete on a level playing field with the subsequent contenders. After that, all record attempts have had to be made riding a replica of the french guy´s bike. The record was only just beaten recently and only by 10m, it seems that in this case the limits of physical human ability have been reached. But it doesn´t seem fair that we should stay in the dark ages and refuse all technological advances. If you really must reduce it to as level a playing field as possible, why not force the runners to go barefoot? Why not push all the pole vaulters back into using bamboo poles? Then we´d get very little improvement on records ever again.

A belated congrats KimK. I told you you didn´t need to worry about anything! I got my A-level grades back on Thursday; two As and two Bs, I´m off to Nottingham at the end of September so I may well disappear @Saiyan, where´ve you been all this time?
