<img src=´ http://www.joshandchristi.net/evolved/tlr-adbanner1.jpg ´> Greetings Freelancers! Beta testing of the Evolved Mod V1 is in full swing. We´re squashing bugs left and right, thanks to our wonderful Beta Test Team and our unwavering, never faltering Mod Team. We have a few more additions to make, but we fully expect the mod to be released in a matter of DAYS. Here is a run down on *some* of the new content: - 50+ new ships including over 35 of our players´ favorite Baene ships - 3 new Russian systems inhabited by warring Romanov and the Stalinist NPC factions - 3 new frontier systems which are the home of a new alien race with a hunger to make contact with humanity - New Bedouin NPC faction has wandered into the Tau systems - Each new NPC faction comes equipped with their own technology, including ships and weapons - Rebalanced Liberty and Bretonian weaponry to bring them up to par with Kusari and Rheinland equipment - New higher level guns for NPC factions, both lawful and criminal - All player ships can mount level 10 technology, but at the cost of higher power drain - All fighters have been rebalanced and reclassified as Interceptors (fast, maneuverable, CD only), Multirole (better armor at cost of speed, one CD/torp), and Bombers (multiple torps, high armor) in an effort to create a "rock-scissors-paper" relationship Our team is committed to continuous improvement. As we polish off V1 we are already hard at work developing concepts for V2. We mean to implement a fully dynamic economy in our next build. We aim to revolutionize the way people play Freelancer together and we mean to deliver. Our main server will stop running the Evolutions Nomad Revenge 2 mod within the next couple of days so that we can fully test our beta. It won´t be long now. I hope you slept well, because the "Dawn of a New Reality" is at hand! The mod team is almost through the alpha testing phase and the beta test version is being created as we speak. SpAz took the time to make us a quick video while testing the alpha version. You can download it HERE (11.2 Mb). Check it out! The Evolved Mod will truly be "The Dawn of a New Reality." The new server has arrived and is up and running. There are a few finer details yet to be ironed out, but for the most part it is stable and running well. For now, the server is still running the excellent Nomad Revenge II mod, but will soon be converted to the multiplayer beta test of our mod. We hope you will come try out the new mod when it is released in just a few weeks. However, if you want to get in on the ground floor, you may want to visit our home page and forums now and learn what our community is all about. I had an issue come up the other day. The UTF Editor kept adding a character onto my file names for my Dt_name and Et_name. After the ".tga" it would put some other random character on the end and FL couldn´t find the file. The name of my texture was "jay_ship10.tga". Through several hours of trial and error I finally figured out the UTF Editor doesn´t like numeric characters in the file name. I dropped the "10" from the name and they editor let me update the Dt_name and Et_name correctly. FYI. One request: Argh, could you give us an idea of what the difference is on the Oc between 0.000000->1.000000 and on the Ec between the three lines of 0.000000->1.000000? I´ve been playing with it, but I´m having a hard time seeing the difference if I pick a low number or a high number for each. Thanks! <img src=´http://www.joshandchristi.net/evolved/sig_evolving.jpg ´> http://www.evolvedones.com

My latest: The "Last Rites" Texture turned out better than I expected, but I´ve got to work harder on creating my own ship hull panels from scratch. I used glow maps a bit more this time, as you can see from the sides of the craft. The engine has a non-glowing element inside the nozzle (that you can´t see...lol), so it sets it off nicely I think.

@Arton Alpha: I´d either: (1) shorten the nose on the Y axis so the there is enough slope to give room for a bubble cockpit , or (2) extend the tail fin (vertical stablizer) forward on the Z access and convert it into a cockpit. Without a defi

Black Eagle Thanks for the feedback! The Gnat does look boxy and fairly ugly because it´s meant to replace the Starflier as the starter ship, i.e. the one you want to get out of ASAP! <img src=smilies/icon_smile.gif width=15 height=15 border=0 align=m

lol I haven´t gotten that far yet! I just figured out how to make icons for my ships (thanks to Osprey´s excellent tutorial!). Maybe later this weekend I´ll get around to changing the flame.

Thanks, Argh! That gives me a much better understanding of the glow effect. And it is SO impressive when done right (i.e. the bandit pics on page 5). Here is the Razorbeak with the glow and glass set right, or at least better than they were: Click here <img src=´http://www.joshandchristi.net/evolved/sig_evolving.jpg ´> http://www.evolvedones.com Edited by - Silent Jay on 8/11/2005 7:07:44 AM

Argh : Thanks for the feedback! That first shot of the Razorbeak was before I got the glow and glass area working, they look better now, but I still don´t understand exactly what the glow areas add. What is the effect suppose to be and what is the diff

Greetings. First of all, I want to thank every person who posted or contributed to a tutorial on modelling and texturing ships. Without the EXCELLENT information I found here (without posting even one noob question, btw) I would never have gotten to where I am. Here are links to my first three original ships. The pics aren´t 100% up to date, i.e. some things have been improved or changed, but you get the general idea. The "Razorbeak" The "Jesterblade" The "Gnat" In an effort to bring in new design ideas (due to my very limited imagination), I´m offering factions on the Evolved RPG server I play on the opportunity to have custom built ships, made to their specifications, that only their factions will be allowed to fly. Once the orders start coming in, I´ll have more work to show you. Once again, thanks so very much to those of you who have contributed over the months and years to make this forum such a great resource to aspiring shipwrights! Especially Drizzt, Imagine, and Argh, your tutorials are so useful that I printed out color copies and bound them so that I could study and reference them anytime I need to. And to any of you people thinking that making ships is too hard to even consider, don´t be discouraged by a couple of false starts. If you really want to make ships for Freelancer, all the tools and knowledge you need is right here. Use it! <img src=´http://www.joshandchristi.net/evolved/sig_evolving.jpg ´> http://www.evolvedones.com Edited by - Silent Jay on 8/10/2005 12:46:03 AM

Asgard-Evolved is a great place to play. I´ve just recently gotten back into playing Freelancer after a long absence. I´ve never had as much fun playing the game as I have in the time I´ve spent on Asgard-Evolved. It´s a great mod, a great server, and a great community. The forum boards are quite active with In Character and Out Of Character discussion. Roleplaying events are held, and the various factions residing on Asgard-Evolved have started going head to head more often. Whether you are a hardcore freelancer or a real team player, you owe it to yourself to give Asgard-Evolved a look. There is a diverse group of factions already establish that are always looking for new members (I happened to choose the Federated Express Shipping faction). New factions are provided with their own forums, provided they meet the requirements, and can even reserve a base of their choice as their "home." The admins of Asgard-Evolved are really going the extra mile to make it the best RP server out there. I know I´ll be playing there for some time into the future. Hope to see you there! - Silent Jay, [FedEx <img src=´http://www.joshandchristi.net/images/sig_jay_fedex_3.jpg ´> http://www.asgard-evolved.com Edited by - Silent Jay on 5/15/2005 10:27:34 PM Edited by - Silent Jay on 5/15/2005 10:29:49 PM

People shouldn´t criticize server admins for problems that were built in to the game by the developers. This game was designed with the user files saved on the server side. This game should have been designed as a massively multiplayer universe. It wasn´t. Enjoy it for what it is. Criticize the people truly responsible. That way, when they get around to Freelancer 2, it will be the game we all wished Freelancer 1 was. And grow the heck up. I´ve never seen a more immature community of players in my life. Many of you bicker and argue and insult like you´re about to enter fourth grade. Just be thankful for the good times you´ve had with Freelancer and the servers that are available. Although my interest in the game has finally dried up, I´m still thankful for the great servers I had the privilage to play on. And send your feedback to Microsoft and Digital Anvil and help them to realize the game´s full potential the next time around. Tell them your concerns, your frustrations, and your hopes for future games. The old saying goes: If you´re not part of the solution, you are part of the problem. Thanks Elite server admins for running a good server. Although my time on it was very limited, you deserve all the thanks for providing a free service to the community. <img src=´http://clanjfp.org/images/sig_jay_fl.jpg ´> http://clanjfp.org "The price of freedom is eternal vigilance." - Thomas Jefferson

I´d be a member of the Knights Templar during the Crusades in the 12th century. I´d have to be a Seargent since I can´t prove my nobility through 5 generations. It would be a tough life of poverty, chastity, and obedience, but I´d be the horror of the infidel and the savior of each pilgrim to the Holy Land. <img src=´http://clanjfp.org/images/sig_jay_fl.jpg ´> http://clanjfp.org "The price of freedom is eternal vigilance." - Thomas Jefferson

If the claws are actually able to slash the Jedi using the lightsabre then the Jedi "...will become more powerful than you can possibly imagine." ( - Obi Wan Kenobi) So the claw-wielder cannot win because if he does then the Jedi will inspire (from beyond the gave) his young padwan learner to blow up the claw-wielder´s Death Star. <img src=´http://clanjfp.org/images/sig_jay_fl.jpg ´> http://clanjfp.org "The price of freedom is eternal vigilance." - Thomas Jefferson

The existance of women here may (and should) have the effect of raising the maturity of the men (boys) who post here. However, it´s impractical to try to prove they are here. All we (the males) can do is assume that women do read and respond to these forums and conduct ourselves accordingly with the proper respect, language, and restraint that was once required of a gentleman in the presence of a lady. I don´t think this post is going to convince anyone to elevate their forum habits, but I figured it was worth a mention. <img src=´http://clanjfp.org/images/sig_jay_fl.jpg ´> http://clanjfp.org "The price of freedom is eternal vigilance." - Thomas Jefferson

Flaming just proves that the writer cannot be taken seriously. Honest, mature debating is extremely important, and should go on for the sake of improving the game and the community, but mature debate can only happen when all parties involved are able to govern their passions and think twice before hitting that "Reply To Topic" button.

I´ve got the "Gold Box" EA Classics version of Privateer 1/RF on cd. It included full speech for all the bar rumors on the bases. I haven´t tried to run it for a while, but I´ve got my old computer in a box ready for re-assembly whenever I get bored. What a great game. I remember I use to think..."hmmm, this would make a great multiplayer game if they could get hundreds of people playing it all at the same time...they should do that some day." Freelancer fell short of that by a lot, but it´s a pretty good update. Check the WCNews.com forums for information on "Privateer: The Reckoning", a project to mod many of the old Privateer and WC1-3 fighters and systems into Freelancer. <img src=´http://clanjfp.org/images/sig_jay_fl.jpg ´> http://clanjfp.org "The price of freedom is eternal vigilance." - Thomas Jefferson
