I need a leaf blower on my ship so I can check if Leipzig isn´t bigger than that, or that the cloud makes it look bigger .

It did force me to use a completely different style of fighting; I´m not sure if it made me a better pilot, more a different one. With the VHF I would just fire off a bunch of torpedoes to a fixed target and engage the enemy fighters. The lack of a launcher forced me to use different tactics there (the cut engine-strafe / mine technique that someone posted here was a godsend). So now I like to switch between different types of ships more than before.

I spend about 15 minutes mining just outside Arranmore and I swear that at least 30 Mollys killed themselves in that time. Not the brightest lot: first they want Dublin for themselves, but there isn´t even a planet in that system, then they line their own base with mines... Anyway I regularly watch NPC battles and my favourites are ones with drakes, specially if they´re flown by elite pilots. Nimble little buggers. Something I noticed from watching the fights is a handy tip for the pirates out there: once a convoy gets into a fight, the heavy freighter trains will try to continue on it´s way while the escorts stay behind to fight. Hmm, defenseless freighter.

My tip would be to try the course a couple of times before entering the race. There´s no one else to distract you, you can take your time and figure out what the tricky turns are. Once you manage to go through it at cruise speed, it´s just a matter of entering the race, ignoring Hovis and fly your own race.

NPCs also never run out of ammo or Thruster energy. Having said that I think that small advantage is well outweighted by them not using bats and bots or having shield regen. Add to that their suicidal tendencies in mine fields, gas fields and combat and they need a cheat here or there just to be credible.

You last option. The jump gate to "Unknown with Planets" is in Omicron Gamma, look in the radioactive cloud at the top of O-G (in F2; to the right of the jump hole to Omicron Theta). There are dozens of wrecks around it, so it´s easy to spot once you´re getting close.

The figures aren´t in a file as they are shown above, but I´ve read a thread in the modding forum that explains how to set up a ship from scratch and it dealt with which variables deal with manoeuvrability as well.

If you entered it via Omicron Alpha then there are no planets. That unknown system is completely empty. And yes, those guns are nasty, they took down my Anubis before I even had time to use bats or bots. There are a few threads on the guns that have the stats.

Hmm, I think I know what´s happening, but I´m not 100% sure, so please correct me when I´m wrong: You get hit - shield goes down - you hit F - shield loads up - you´re down 3 batteries in one go or more? That´s normal; the bigger shields use up a couple of bats to fully recharge. The better the shield, the more bats it takes to fully recharge. Same with the nanobots.

Plus everyone knows that people in a main role with a Brittish accent are evil. Basic Hollywood psychology people .

I agree with you on the auto-aim turrets. I´ve played Crimson Skies and it works pretty well there; even with a .70 in a turret, it won´t make too many kills to make you feel useless (plus when the rear turrets are firing it usually means a bogie is chewing up your tail so you try to move away asap). Specially in obstacle fields you can´t really go to turret mode without crashing into just about anything, so any form of AI that can control the ship in-combat even if it´s just defensive manoeuvres or a turret AI would be helpful. Right now I´m letting my turrets go to waste most of the time, which is a shame because the controls to use them are really easy, it gives you a great view of the combat and it´s great fun as well. Heck you can even sell them seperately on the bases and make them available at different levels (rookie, veteran, not sure if elite is a good idea) at a price.

Where are you? The corsairs have some seriously dangerous ships out in the outer regions and it´s best to steer clear until you have a decent ship.
