@ jsncalif11 The easiest way to put your textures into Freelancer is to use the <A href=´http://flm.dragonfeatherstudios.com/index.php?download=127´ Target=_Blank>MAT file exporter</a> for milkshape which does most of the work for you. It is import

Here is the format for clickable thumbnails (example shown below) which I think is the best option. <img src=´http://img51.imageshack.us/img51/285/urlimagecopy5se.jpg ´> <A href=´http://img159.imageshack.us/my.php?image=shiphull4nj.jpg´ Target=_Blank><img src=´http://img159.imageshack.us/img159/3861/shiphull4nj.th.jpg ´></a> For those that use <A href=´http://imageshack.us´ Target=_Blank><img src=´http://imageshack.us/img/iss1.png ´></a> this code is generated for you automatically whenever you upload a picture. All you need to do is copy and paste <img src=smilies/icon_smile_wink.gif width=15 height=15 border=0 align=middle>. <img src=´http://216.77.188.54/coDataIma…/1025235PantherX-new3.jpg ´> Edited by - PantherX on 7/28/2005 6:13:11 PM

This can only be answered in one of three ways: a) Thick as a brick b) We´re not going to openly discuss warez here c) Did I mention thick as a brick? <img src=´http://216.77.188.54/coDataIma…/1025235PantherX-new3.jpg ´> Edited by - PantherX on 7/20/2005 8:02:30 PM

Your estimates are on the conservative side actually. You could easily add an extra 2000-3000 polys for each category without a problem. The capships in FL are well in excess of 10,000 polys and I´ve seen small ships released here at TLR over that number as well. I´ve seen fleets of capships meet in-game and the slowdown only really kicked in when the pyrotechnics began. The ship´s polys only really matter when the NPC´s fly them and only then if they´ll be onscreen in large numbers. If your making a ship strictly for players then you have a lot of room to play with. That said I´ve never seen a small ship with more than 4000-5000 polys that wasn´t overrun with useless polys. <img src=´http://216.77.188.54/coDataIma…/1025235PantherX-new3.jpg ´>

When I read this post I hear Jethro Tull´s ´Thick as Brick´ ...lol. Sigh..... <img src=´http://216.77.188.54/coDataIma…/1025235PantherX-new3.jpg ´>

I got your e-mail Darkagent and while I would like to help I think that with all the tutorials aroud you would be better off doing a little reading and giving it a go yourself. You´ll have a much greater sense of accomplishment in the end....trust me. If you need direction to software tthen I would happy to help. <img src=´http://216.77.188.54/coDataIma…/1025235PantherX-new3.jpg ´>

Hmmm not a single person has contacted me by e-mail (as offered in my previous post) regarding this problem. Curious indeed. <img src=´http://216.77.188.54/coDataIma…/1025235PantherX-new3.jpg ´>

If you´re going to use Milkshape for modelling then by all means buy it. Argh is right someone has spent a lot of time working on it and deserves to be paid. However if you´re going to use it soley to export models to FL 9(like I do) then I feel your pain. Unfortunately Milkshape is the only game in town when it comes to exporting models to FL which sucks but thats the way it is. Any further discussion will probably get me in trouble but I find it hard to pay money for essentially an export utility so.......... <img src=´http://216.77.188.54/coDataIma…/1025235PantherX-new3.jpg ´>

Bah...LOD´s are a waste of time so don´t bother. If you´re going to have lot´s of NPC´s flying the ship, and are that concerned about polys, then make one detailed version for players and a lower poly version for NPC´s. You never get close enough to NPC´s to see the detail and so you won´t miss it anyway. That said I usually keep my polys under 4000 so I don´t normally have to worry. Now let´s see some finished work and take this poly talk somewhere else <img src=smilies/icon_smile_tongue.gif width=15 height=15 border=0 align=middle>. <img src=´http://216.77.188.54/coDataIma…/1025235PantherX-new3.jpg ´>

I think it´s a valid question. It´s unreasonable to spend money on software simply to export your models because frankly I won´t use it anything else....especially NOT for modelling, I think it´s horrible (I know a lot of people use it and much respect to you <img src=smilies/icon_smile.gif width=15 height=15 border=0 align=middle>). Burzelmann contact at victwig@hotmail.com and I´ll help you with alternatives. <img src=´http://216.77.188.54/coDataIma…/1025235PantherX-new3.jpg ´>

Argh to be honest Milkshape is the only program I´ve used where you can join vertices without actually welding them. In metasequoia and 3ds Max joining will automatically weld the vertices. Have you exported other models with unwelded vertices from milkshape before with different results? If not, it´s possible that the FL engine treats joined vertices as welded also. In which case you would have to detach the faces before exporting to get the faceted look (I believe) you´re trying to achieve. No offense to you Milkshape users, it´s a good value for the price but overall.......it sucks <img src=smilies/icon_smile_wink.gif width=15 height=15 border=0 align=middle>. <img src=´http://216.77.188.54/coDataIma…/1025235PantherX-new3.jpg ´>

The thing about feedback is that you can either take it or leave it. DTX has made his choice futher criticism is not useful. Best of luck to him. I have found that in general the quality of released models here to be ordinary with a select few producing anything of worth. I believe that the main reason for this is that most of the feedback is from non-modellers so the bulk of it is simple oohing and ahhing. For some if 90% say it´s superb and 10% say it needs work they go with the consensus rather than considering the source of the dissident opinion. Mind you it´s great when people like my work but if a fellow modeller points something out to me I´ll listen because there´s always something new to learn. One you think you know it all you will not improve beyond your current state. Of course this isn´t life or death so at the end of the day it doens´t matter either way I just like to try to keep an open mind. <img src=´http://216.77.188.54/coDataIma…/1025235PantherX-new3.jpg ´>

@DTX - If you don´t want feedback then shouldn´t post pics of your work. No matter how good you (think) you are there´s always room for improvement. While I don´t agree with everything Argh says his feedback is never malicious but well reasoned and co

Those are pretty good. I had the same idea some time ago but gave up because I couldn´t get the textures to work. Now I have to figure out where I went wrong B-). Any chance you could send me the .mat file? <img src=´http://216.77.188.54/coDataIma…/1025235PantherX-new3.jpg ´>

Those pics are pretty small so I can´t really say. Can you post something bigger? <img src=´http://216.77.188.54/coDataIma…/1025235PantherX-new3.jpg ´>

I downloaded a zip file with a few halo models a few months ago. They are all in .3ds form and are not Textured. Here´s the Fighter-bomber: <A href=´http://img90.echo.cx/my.php?image=fighterbomber6rv.jpg´ Target=_Blank><img src=´http://img90.echo.cx/img90/7243/fighterbomber6rv.th.jpg ´></a> (Click for a larger image). If anyone wants to use them PM me at the forums at <A href=´http://www.pathfinderstudios.com/forum/´ Target=_Blank> Pathfinder Studios </a> and I´ll be happy to send them to you. <img src=´http://216.77.188.54/coDataIma…/1025235PantherX-new3.jpg ´>

You most certainly did. Discussions of that nature are best left to e-mail <img src=smilies/icon_smile_wink.gif width=15 height=15 border=0 align=middle>. On a less controversial note there are two excellent and FREE modelling programs out there by the names of Wings 3D and Blender 3D that you might want to check out.
