50. Asteroids and commets on set course through or elipitical orbits around a system. Can cause tremendous damage to ships in space lanes or unsuspecting stations that happen to be in their way. 51. Super destroyers. 52. Realistic market economy (ie having to borrow money from a bank to purchase your ship and pay back the money with interest or have to deal with Repo men, and the dirty word "taxation&quot 53. Manage a fleet of ships (cargo, bouty hunters, etc.) working for you. 54. <Expands on an earlier suggestion another user had> Massive area assaults in an all out factional war. Especially against destructable space stations. 55. Disputed Sol sector, all factions fighting for control of Earth (a mod I´m working on), all factions are present in same areas for heated battles. 57. Occasional idiot pilots who crash or get destroyed, then you hear it on a newswire or in-flight radio with a news channel (that would be awesome) so you can go loot the destroyed wreck before Emergency services arrive. 58. Complete walkaround city freedom, combine FL with Grand Theft Auto. 59. Be able to report crimes, and after a while receive notice of their capture for trial, their death or the escape from prosecution. 60. Have a home, a place to go back to where you can put an ever growing wealth into making it the best home on the block. 61. Purchase properties or companies, such as ship builders or ship yards, then you get all your ships at cost as long as it pertains to your company. Construction companies or commodity producing companies as well. 62. A variable stock market for each faction, when their economy is bad, you probably wouldn´t want to try and sell luxury goods. 63. Being able to have a human transport ship, like a passenger airplane. 64. A revolving system of planets that continue on their orbits around their stars. Spectre

Wanderer, more info if you please. I have already seen a Russian sol sector, and someone in this forum mentioned one which I have a link to, but haven´t tried. So far I haven´t found quite what I want. So tell me about this other one. Spectre

Giskard wrote in his computer dialect: "The battle for Earth mod sounds interesting but it also sounds like your rearranging the pieces of the game without actually changing anything to make it feel different. Thats the danger you face with your mod. " You just spelled out the difference between us. Who said I wanted it to "feel different?" I want an improvement. I just played Privateer 1 & 2 again recently, actually I´m still playing 2. Those games feel different from one another and I like them both for different reasons. There are improvements to each I wish I could make, but if I felt like a certain style I´d play that particular game. Freelancer is a style unto itself. It feels just fine to me. I´m just doing my part to expand and improve the Freelancer universe, just as all of us are expanding and improving our own world everyday with our contributions. And I don´t take flights in Corellian cruisers and I don´t have a Star Fury parked in my garage. Spectre

Giskard, is rumour changing in your tutorial? I´ve read so many now I can´t recall the specifics of yours? I still haven´t read the "id" tut you linked to, it was down when I went there before and now I just keep forgetting. I like the goal you are striving for, with your mod. But you´re about 12 degrees off what I would have done, all having to do with the ships and the separate systems for those ships. A system I´m planning at the moment, does the opposite. Battle for Earth has ALL the factions together at each other´s throats. It´s a gauntlet, no separation and very little actual dominion over space. They still keep their own systems, but around Earth, anything can happen. Spectre Edited by - Spectre-Man on 03-06-2003 08:15:54

    Q. Giskard, how is it that you have a developing plot in upgraded mods? And let me explain the reason why some of us don´t like the other ships. We enjoy those other series just as much as we enjoy this game. But the universes our minds play in whether watching a film or TV or playing an earlier game, bring a life all to themselves. When you start mudding up the waters it diffuses the intensity of each thing unto itself. In a game that has no aliens, it would annoy me to see an alien space craft from another series. Because that sight of a ship which shouldn´t be there comes with a whole history that detracts from this universe. HOWEVER, if people were able to "completely" switch over a universe to an all Star Wars uni or an all B5 uni, then I wouldn´t have a problem. The fiction and intensity would fit together, albeit in a form the creators never signed onto. Spectre

Well Savage, when I reach a point where I can make this system as complete as I can, I will open it up to people to add in their ships. I won´t be doing any ships. I might borrow a few cruiser or destroyer specks I glanced through recently, but that´s it. Anything else would be up to others. Spectre

Larryboy has a point. I think we are so accustomed to huge special effects in our modern world of movies and videogames, we just see digitized effects rather than reality. So when a game with as good graphics as Freelancer has in most all cases it feels clean because you know it was all done in a computer. Whereas Privateer and WC seems dirtier because you notice the computer flaws, when in fact the devs were probably disappointed with how splotchy they would look. I do want it known I support whole-heartedly people who want to add in WC, SW, B5 & Priv ships into the game. I just won´t be doing it too much. I prefer enhancing the game elements such as system building and user freedom because by making those things better, no matter what ship you are in the game is made better. You don´t need a Ferrari to enjoy driving to and fro. I don´t need a Freij MK II (from Privateer 2 and my favorite of all space craft) to enjoy playing the game. Spectre

I think someone is making a Privateer Mod. Personally my favorite ship of any game is the Freij MK II with loaded Kraven MK IV lasers in Privateer 2. It looks a little like the vessel the woman bounty hunter is driving in SW Ep II only more bulky. I forgot to add why I like it. I use to play chicken with enemy ships and ram them. With the powerful shield I had I could probably ram twenty ships before having to resort to guns. I once sat in front of a respawning Pirate base and killed over three hundred of them in less than a hour (5-7 a minute) without having barely a scratch. I guess I have missed something in Privateer 1. I just finished playing Privateer 1 recently (I´ve been saying that a lot on this forum) I didn´t know you could tractor in escape pods and sell them. I guess I was just too respectful of human life to attempt that, I kindly let them die a cold, horrible, airless death. I´m trying that this second. I´m off to the Troy system. Spectre-Man Edited by - Spectre-Man on 01-06-2003 23:26:00

BTW I had a 386 and through tweaking I was able to play all the popular titles of the day at optimum levels. I didn´t upgrade until a Pentium 90, then the 133 which I still use to play my old games today. I´m glad I learned that stuff when I did it´s where I first dealt with Windows 3.0 ini files. Which allows me to understand modding the ini files for Freelancer fairly well. If you ask me, and you didn´t, Windows 3.1 was the most customizable Windows made where Dos was an ally, not an abandoned OS. Spectre-Man

I totally agree, playability is more important than graphics. I just finished playing through Privateer 1 on my Pentium 133 because I still enjoy that game. But just adding in ships from other games doesn´t make Freelancer a Wing Commander or a Privateer. Though, my favorite space games of all time are WC3 & Privateer 1 & 2 having new mods just won´t be the same. I love that cheesy synth music in Privateer! And don´t get me wrong. I will be adding in some ships eventually and I do understand your want to harken to the idea of a full and complete game. Freelancer does feel a little rushed, despite having what 5-6 years to make it. I guess what I am saying is I need more time to really figure out if I feel Freelancer would be a better game by incorporating older ships. So far I am still satisfied the way it is. Spectre-Man
