Civ II was my favourite. That thing had me hooked for months.

the whole ethos of the internet is free-will. America or any other country governing it would be disasterous. I don´t want some jumped up little boner in the white house telling me what is and isn´t right... ...ooh its so hard not to get political *must resist* The internet is global. Its free (well kinda <img src=smilies/icon_smile_wink.gif width=15 height=15 border=0 align=middle> ). Anybody with a computer can access a wealth of free information, share their lives with people across the world and add a piece of themselves to the ever-growing biggest encyclopedia ever conceived. Governing it would add censorship. How does one man have the right to tell another what he can or cannot read? The beauty of the world wide web consortium, as painful as it is to follow their current guidelines, they want to preserve the internet for what it is. They don´t want to change it - they just want it be accessible to every single living person.

How queer! <img src=smilies/icon_smile_big.gif width=15 height=15 border=0 align=middle>

*shudders* yeah I remember them. The concept is the same, the only real difference is a kid is more likely to get attached to something that looks like a real dog, in comparison to 5 lcd pixels in a throw-away bit of plastic. *shudders again* yeah I remember them alright.

hmmm. ICANN. Well they´re all about DNS and IP so to me its really a combination of 2 organisations "controlling the internet", ICANN and the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). W3C is the only truly, 100% international organisation laying down web standards, so in their own way they are "controlling the internet". Governed by good ole Mr Berners-Lee, they are globally standardising the web slowly but surely. Only the US with the less effective 508 standards are breaking away from them....which I am yet to understand a reason for. I can understand a reason for the law (and I´m wholeheartedly behind it), I just don´t understand why they insisted on laying down their own version of the rules. Would it be too political a comment to suggest that this is the US government attempting to "take control" of the internet? I´ve been away for a long time and I´m not sure what constitutes as political discussion around here nowadays.

I agree to a certain extent....but even though I am well versed in the W3C guidelines, I still find them to be often unmanageable. ie. one rule works well with one site but not with another. I feel sorry for those that are only just beginning to learn them. I´m 100% behind web designer/developer certification, but they have to get the rules right in the first place. They currently change too often and are way too vague to apply to every site. In fact, at the moment I would equate certification to the creation of a police force in a country that has no law, only suggestions that are often inappropriate. And of course before you can lay down the law, you have to make sure that your broadcast medium can cope with the law enforcement. ie. all of the browsers need to become compliant immediately. Currently out of the major browsers, only Firefox renders CSS correctly and even then its not actually 100% perfect. Edited by - gromit on 10/11/2005 2:13:29 AM

<font size=1 face="trebuchet ms"><BLOCKQUOTE><hr size=1 noshade>there´s this new game the kids are raving about (and for) - Nintendogz, it´s called. <hr size=1 noshade></BLOCKQUOTE></font><font face=´trebuchet ms, Verdana, Arial, Helvetica´ size=2> its similar to the Dogz/Catz craze that hit the PC world in the mid nineties. Remember that? "own a virtual pet" etc? Its the same concept, feed it, pet it, clear up its poo etc....except this time, the dog looks like a real dog and not a collection of badly drawn circles...and its on the Nintendo DS, so you "pet it" by tickling it with the touch screen. I hope for your sake your credit card didn´t get stung too much matee because its readily available in the UK already and would probably work out cheaper than importing from Japan. Chips ! ... <font size=1 face="trebuchet ms"><BLOCKQUOTE><hr size=1 noshade>For me, not buying any games consoles again. I don´t care if they play movies, if they make the tea - and if they allow me to chat online whilst gaming. My PC does all that and more! would you prefer we discussed the men? <img src=smilies/icon_smile_tongue.gif width=15 height=15 border=0 align=middle> sorry chap, I haven´t seen the movie yet so its difficult to comment on anything else. @taw - "and I was rummaging around in the attic, when I came across the original transcript of the bible. which was nice."

lol. sounds familiar. 2 of my other favourites were : "arsecake" - this was an MS Word virus, when you saved your word doc it changed every third word beginning with A into the word "arsecake". Highly amusing when turning in university papers <img src=smilies/icon_smile_tongue.gif width=15 height=15 border=0 align=middle> "run away" - this was one that I saw on windows 3.1, every so often it would choose one of your windows at random...then when you approach the window with your cursor, it would dart to the other side of the screen and start shaking in the corner. It was accompanied by a badly sampled version of the Monty Python crew shouting "RUN AWAY!!" fantastic. aaah the good ole days <img src=smilies/icon_smile_wink.gif width=15 height=15 border=0 align=middle>

LOL!!! As funny as that is matee you may want to stick a PG-13 certificate on it, Mr Responsible Moderator Bloke. After all, we´re not allowed to say **** or ****...or even **** for that matter <img src=smilies/icon_smile_wink.gif width=15 height=15 border=0 align=middle> EDIT: I didn´t realise that one of the major swear words was uncensored!!?? EDIT: it made my point to the person concerned, and that was sufficient. but it was very funny, wasn´t it... EDIT: Blimey its like being possessed. Can you make my head spin too? <font size=1 face="trebuchet ms"><BLOCKQUOTE><hr size=1 noshade>I´m not quite sure how to describe Frank Sidebottom <hr size=1 noshade></BLOCKQUOTE></font><font face=´trebuchet ms, Verdana, Arial, Helvetica´ size=2> Yeaah, thats a toughy. How exactly do you explain the comic merits of a man in a business suit with an over-sized paper mache head and a ridiculously annoying voice? Tell ya what though, when you´ve done explaining that one, try "the man with the stick" from Vic & Bob´s Big Night Out....or in fact "Milky milky" from The Mary Whitehouse Experience.
