Okay, this is all I can find to get the call sign to change from Freelancer A1-1 to Navy A1-1. I´ve gone high and low, and I can´t seem to get anything else to work. So....... I have OpenSp mod by Xerex running. Then open the initalworld ini. Using BinuQ, look at the first listing of factions. That should be Navy. Move the [Group bracketed tag up into the cluster with the locked gate listings. Then move the nickname up as well, making it flush with the Group tag. It will look something like this... blah, blah, blah....Li01_to_Ew01_hole [Groupnickname = li_n_grp ids_name = 196846 ids_info = 66200 Everything needs to be flush. Save, and close, Reopen. You should see [Groupnickname=li_n_grp colored BiniQ-Green. If it´s blue, it won´t work. Now, I´ve tried other factions, it crashed the game. So, from what I see, this is the only one that will work....but I´m sure you code wizards can find a better way, or avenue to get others to work. If any of you can figure something else out to make it work better, wonderful, I´d be very interested to hear it...at least now you can work for two groups....as a Freelancer or as a Navy Pilot.

Okay....I got it....sorta.... This is what I can do. First off, I can´t get the save game editor to convert files back for me, so I stopped trying to alter the newcharacter fl file. I can´t seem to get the above idea to work, so maybe someone else can do better than I. However, I have figured out, at least, how to be able to change Freelancer A1-1, to Navy A1-1. I have OpenSp mod by Xerex running. Then open the initalworld ini. Using BinuQ, look at the first listing of factions. That should be Navy. As an insight, I recreated my accidental discovery of this while I was using the Faction creator tool. It was this tool that created this the first time as well. All I did with the tool was create the faction for the initialworld ini, and cut and pasted from the tool to the ini file. Let me know if anyone else can reproduce this....I´ve been able to go back and forth putting it in to work, and taking it out with no effect to my saved games.... I thought so, but I wasn´t sure....I have the save game editor, but I´ve had no luck getting it to encode back saved games....but....I´ll give it another try.

Okay...so where do I find this in single player...it´s not in New Character ini... ======== Okay scratch above, I found the newplayer.fl file....so how do I open it? What tool should I use? Edited by - Ricardius on 2/7/2005 1:34:15 PM

Okay, I´ve read thru the tutorial by Quickshot....I understand it. However, what faction tag does "freelancer" have....example, Navy has li_n_grp, Police have li_p_grp...etc....If I knew that, I might be able to track it down better.....

ho! Hey thanks Chips....as soon as I get back from an Airport run...( wife leaves on a Biz trip, allows Husband to drink beer, eat pizza and play/mod Freelancer till eyes implode....)....I´ll check it out....

Well, I know it can be done...using the tools available....my son has been bugging me to repeat the glitch ever since he heard it himself....so, yea a tutorial will be written cause I have a feeling it´s a thing many people want....

As I´m looking at the empathy ini, I get the impression that there may be something there that triggers the call in the voice files, or utfs. Now, if the first entry in the faction empathy ini, being corrupted and (as discribed above....) is missing, then perhaps that would cause the file to "default" that faction as the "freelancer" id for the voice file? I was called Navy A1-1. The missing entry for the group was Navy (the li_n_grp).....( 1+1= Navy A1-1? )

What I found that was different, from my stand point, the only thing I could see, was that the empathy ini file had somehow forced the first entry, the [group lead tag into the locked gate section, and it became part of it. The second thing I noticed that all my new games started, with OpenSP mod activated, lost it´s first entry in the file. Meaning, using Ioncross character editor, looking at the saved game file, the first empathy group entry, the very first listing, was blank. It showed a value, but not faction. Next, no factions showed up in the editor, the entire list was missing. None. I got a run script error 30 when I tried to use it, as in make all factions friendly, and it crashed. No factions could be read. Also, I could not load into play any saved games. This means, as you know, you can load saved FLgames from any other location. It would crash the game if I tried to load the game from the load game menu. I believe that somehow, I either deleted the "freeelancer" voice flag or replaced it with a Navy voice flag, when I used the editor. However, when I tried to duplicated it, I couldn´t get it to work. That´s where I get stumped.

Okay, here´s a new one on me. I´ve been modding now for quite sometime, and I have never encountered this little, nice, glitch. While I was creating new factions....which I have done succesfully in the past, I somehow....was able to change my call sign from Freelancer A1-1 to Navy A1-1. Blew me away when the docking ring at Manhattan called me Navy A1-1, and when the Police Patrols stopped me to scan my cargo called me Navy as well. Well, I searched high and low and have no idea how I did that....nice touch, but does anyone have a clue? I wouldn´t mind calling myself Zoners A1-1

I´ve been looking for a server that trades as well. I´m not that good in dogfights but can manage myself well in a clash with a pirate or two. I´ve always enjoyed the biz side of Freelancer. So, I´ll be looking in on this topic for lines on some trader-servers...

Chips...Yeap, that was it....it had no legal-illegal path to and from Alaska, so "no one used" the gate, just the "copied in" jumpholes, which were already listed in the path ini files. Alaska wasn´t permitted to use jumpgates. ....I simply forgot the simple rule of, everything needs to be "permited"to work for it to function.... Steve... That´s it...I copied in some exclusion zones and they work in some areas in Alaska, but not others. Example, I made a debris field near Mitchell....works fine....I can get pop to enter and leave both Mitchell and Junaeu...but not the Jumpgate. I know about the "pop type...." command. The jumpgates work fine in other systems. Just not in Alaska...Could it be "hardwired" as such? Something left over from the SP game? The "visit" command is set to allow access, and listings as well. ("Universe ini&quot Now, I too have had a problem with the exclusion zones in general for Alaska...major tweaking to get it to do anything. (Namely...deleteling it altogether and cut-paste in a new one...)

On my server, which is LAN, at home, my son and I have access to the server files, but we are networked together. They are based on my machine, and we "share" the file access. The editor works as well. So, I would believe that they (the other admins) too would be networked together...or...the files themselves are stored on a hosted, an independent, server that has several authorized user/admins. BUT...this is just a guess on my part....

Okay, I´m having a Jumpgate Problem with the Alaska Jumpgate. I can´t seem to get any of the pops to enter or leave thru the jumpgate. If I remove it and place in a jumphole and (2) jumpholes, they use them. If I have both in, gate and hole, they use only the holes. If it´s just the gate, they ignore it... The pops are all in and set correctly. I don´t understand why. I tried what I was doing in another system, it worked....but not in Alaska. So...do I need to do something, perhaps, on the New York side of the gate to get them, it, to work? Is there something that is special to Alaska that "needs to be turned on..." for it to operate? I´m stumped....

A question regarding an MP server... I would like to set up an MP server for say, maybe, a max of 5-10 players at anyone time. I run a sever at home, based on my PC for all the machines I have networked at home. There are 4. The kids and I play on the LAN. I would like to set one up for internet use, for general MP play. Now...the question is....what type of "machine" would I need to dedicate for a 24/7 ability. Is it a special type of Comp, or is it a standard PC ( one that I can pickup at the local store)that had FL on it and nothing else....I´m not sure what the standard is.

I´m looking for someone to possibly host a clan concept on a server that is slow or just starting....I´m willing to trade assitance for space... Checkout the Reqeust for input: A Trade Runners Clan thread on this MP forum....

Just at the startup. It would mean a bit of editing of characters. The "Paperwork" would be from the website. Payouts for missions completed would be direct on the server from a centralized location. Example, I would make payouts to those outstanding bills from Planet Denver, every Tuesday. I would keep track of missons completed from the website, and verifications are easy, since it´s on a MP server, so mission completions and cash levels are controled server side so cheating would be low, if any. A mod for this would be also a handy thing...but I´m not quite sure on the direction it would go, however...
