I downloaded the DS2 demo a while ago, and it is the biggest "Diablo 2" rip-off that I have seen in a long time. Skill trees, portals (ie. "waypoints" by any other name), set items, the carbon-copy death system, respawning monsters, and what´s more you can´t even save in the wilderness anymore! Like Diablo 2 it just transports you back to the closest town when you save! I hope that the saving thing is just an element of the demo. In any case, I am not very impressed, and will most likely wait until the game becomes 50% cheaper *if* I choose to purchase it at all. Quite disappointing. Still, it doesn´t come out for a month here anyway, so I have time to wait for patches, etc.

Hello everyone, you may not remember me but I´m Oghma, ex-modder, professional lurker, and veteran of these forums since 2003. At this time, I would like to confirm my support for the Rabbit-God, and would also like to take this opportunity to quote a passage from the "Book of the Rabbit", Genesis, Chapter II, Verse V as penned by the High Priest of the Rabbit-God himself. "And so it was that on the third day, the Rabbit-God came down from on-high in a fiery chariot that outshone the sun itself and proclaimed His Lordship and Dominion over the hopping and peaceful inhabitants of Esquilaxitavia. It is told that He then raised His paws to the heavens and cried ´Today is a Holy day! Today let the Word go forth from this time and place that Esquilaxitavia is under the protection of the Rabbit-God! Let all heed well the words of the Rabbit-God and obey well the words of His chosen priests! Now go ye forth and multiply, as only the folk of Esquilaxitavia can in order that we may grow and prosper, and defend ourselves against those who would consume us!" As He lowered his paws from the heavens, a great cry went up, and word travelled throughout the city. And so it was that the fonts and basins in the Great Cathedral burst forth and overflowed with the Holy Libation Ginger Beer, and all stood in amazement, and there was much rejoicing and consumption of carbonated beverages. And so it was that the people of the Rabbit-God proclaimed their love for Him, knowing that their patron would watch over them, and protect them from the enemies of the Rabbitfolk of which the rabbit-eating Mullah of Tawakalnistan was foremost, followed closely by the blasphemous practices of the leader of Daftopia...." Glad you enjoyed it. I rather enjoy the "Planet Mars" when involved in a "Dangerous Chase" as they are referred to in FL. It´s hard to match the feeling you get listening to Holst while flying though the Silverton field in pursuit of Ashcroft . As for prophecies, well, if you want a connection to a higher plane, I suggest speaking to Mr. Blix in Rheinland . Regards, Oghma.

Thanks for the software suggestions guys however, although I have heard good things about "Accoustica", I actually used a relative´s copy of "Soundforge 4.5". It works REALLY well. Easy to add fade in/fade out effects, etc. Besides, those programs would probably take ages to download through my wimpy 56k modem. Regards, Oghma

Mmm, I can´t seem to find that particular piece of music in my brother´s collection Caid, but I have a consolation prize. The Alpha version of the "Freelancer Classical Music Mod" has been completed. It features extracts from; -Holst´s "The Planet Mars". -Holst´s "The Planet Jupiter". -Stravinsky´s "The Blackamoor". -Wagner´s "Ride of the Valkyries". I had a couple of other tracks but I couldn´t seem to find any appropriate places for them. The link is below. I do not wish to inflict in upon TLR until it is complete . http://opax.swin.edu.au/~22244…usic_Mod_vAlpha.zip.flmod Regards, Oghma. PS. I have never edited music before so I don´t know how good it is. It sounds ok though. Please give me some feedback. You can be brutally honest. I can take it . Edited by - oghma on 11-10-2003 09:20:28

I´ll tell you what. I have work to do in the near future, but I will add some more music to the mod when I can, as per your suggestions. I will then post a link to the mod, and you guys can play with it and release something a little more polished. I have only made one mod so far, and I think that something as important as the music should be handled by someone with a little more experience. I am willing to offer suggestions, feedback or other assistance, though. Thanks for the suggestions. Keep ´em comin´ . Regards, Oghma

WingC3, I already HAVE posted in your thread. Some people just don´t check their mail... Chips, I WAS thinking of adding some more music. Planet Jupiter IS a good idea, I should really examine my brother´s enormous classical CD collection in more depth ! Caid. What can I say? Of course I´m weird, most modders are . Still, if you want the truth, I can´t STAND any music apart from a bit of Weird "Al" Yankovic (for the satire), and the odd bit of classical. Contemporary music gives me a headache. I´ve always maintained that my mother must have dropped a radio on my head when I was a child . Regards, Oghma. PS. <PLUG> Check out my "Freelancer Reloaded" Mod. No new music, but some good stuff. PLEASE wait for version 1.1 (already submitted to TLR), 1.0 has a few bugs. </PLUG>

Thanks for the vote of confidence, it is appreciated . There is however, one TINY problem, which ironically has to do with size. The tracks that have been converted into 80Kbs, 22KHz, 2 channel .wav files make the mod nearly four megabytes in size. This is not that large but for modem users like myself, it may be a bit on the large side. The main reason that the files are so large is because they are the complete tracks. Maybe I should edit them to only include the "good stuff". Any suggestions on some good (free) editing software? Anyone? Regards, Oghma.

I have been observing this modification for sometime. Looks nice! I like the colourful skinning, the ships in FL are SO bland. By the way, I observe that your site is hosted on OptusNet.com.au. Shall I assume that another Australian is now present on TLR??? (There are probably heaps of them but they keep their mouths shut ). Regards, Oghma

Well, here is one statement of affirmation. I have fond memories of playing all of the games in the Wing Commander series, and I would be interested in downloading a modification based upon the aforementioned games. As Chips suggested in his tutorial, "dbPowerAMP" works very well in converting music files to .wav format. I have used it myself to add some custom music. Might be worth using if you are looking for a program. Regards, Oghma.

Mmm, intriguing. Theoretically, increasing the Alpha channel on a skin MAY allow the ship to be somewhat transparent. The problem would be however, how to link such an effect to a ship add-on eg. a cloaking device. Additionally, I would assume that if this could be done it would already be available especially with talented individuals like those involved in "Starfyre Studios" around the community. I´ll play around with the alpha when I get this damn .CMP file/texture prob. fixed. No promises though . Thank you for your contribution. Oghma.

Thanks, I´ll try that. However I am unsure as to whether or not that is an issue as I have elected to re-texture the ships from FL, rather than create my own models. Interestingly, the UTF editor does not seem to allow me the option to rename the nodes. Mmm, I must be doing something wrong... (obviously) . Oghma
