Hmm...If I´m not allowed to answer, someone please feel free to delete this. Firstly, download THE most useful modding tool named PE Explorer. If you are into your modding in a big way, I would seriously recommend buying this. There is so much that you can do with it. Anyway, change the Product version from 1.0.1033 (or something like that) to whatever you want. Eaxmple, I change my PRODUCT VERSION to 0.80.1033 Easy peasy

Thanks. I´ve got a few more which add up with some stuff which I found while DLL diving one day, and some more which match up with a few theories that I´ve got. I´ll post them once I´ve figured out if they mean anything. Funny little note:- The Microsoft SAM voice was originally used as the computer voice. Its the voice thats used pretty much anytime that Text To Speech is used. Also, they originally set it up so that you don´t get the little notes that pop up on your screen to tell you to do something, the computer voice did all that too.

As I said, I have some issues with this (actually the ones that Glock mentioned), but regardless of that Argh, watching the development of this in such a short time and watching your thought process is amazing. I really hope that I am proved wrong on this one. If I wasn´t such a paranoid asshole, I´d be really excited about this. I tip my hat to you.

Hmm..good call Chips. Hows about we DONT help you, DONT answer any questions you may have and generally ignore you. Firstly, a visual THN editor would be nice, but it can be done without. Anybody who did release one, would have my thanks. The fact that somebody exists in this community with the attitude of "either help or we wont release it to you" is crap. If everybody had that attitude, you wouldn´t even be posting here as we wouldn´t have any modding tools and the scene would be dead. I would love it if maybe all of the people Chips mentioned decided that you weren´t allowed to use their tools. You wouldn´t even have a modding team. Well done, it seems that only you and your 5 members will have access to this fantastic project that you are making. Some people on here will know me or my Swordsman alter ego as a helpful person. Somebody only has to drop me an email, or ask in here, and if I know, I´ll tell. Chips is the same. As is Anton. As is Glock36. As is Argh. And Accushot, I could go on and on. As is everybody who is worth a damn in the community. If you dont want other people using your fantastic little invention, dont release it. But if you´re taking that option, less of the "I am the gods gift to coding. Kneel or be smited" approach. It will win you no fans. I have an utter hatred of people who do what you are proposing to do. I will remember to boycot your project, and advise others to do the same. Now, normal programming is to be resumed... If you want to do this then, you have to ask around every single mod developer that you have used something from and get their permission. Then you need to contact every shipwright and get their permission, this would include ships are are in mods which you already have permission for. Then, if all of these are accepted, its fine. Thats alot of emailing Edited by - devineman on 4/15/2005 5:24:17 AM

Making a mod is a long and labourous process. At times you will literally want to throw your monitor out of the nearest window, other times, you will want to do a lap of honour around your house with your shirt over your head. The best advice that can be given to anybody starting from scratch is this: Read. Read everything. Then Read it again. Then bookmark it and read it again. The store for future reference and read when you are stuck again. Also: Never take anyone on their word claiming that something cannot be done. Everybody has a different brain process and look at things in a different light. All of the people on the forefront of modding now, once probably asked a question, were told it cannot be done, and then did it anyway. Always try it. Heres some starting links for you to bookmark: Compliation of Tutorials and New Modders Thread. 99.9% of the people here are very helpful and will either give you an answer or direct you to somebody who could. But you have to ask specific questions that aren´t covered anywhere in those threads. The people who mostly get ignored are the people who say, I have an encounter and its broke, can someone fix it for me please? Hope that helps

Hmm.. I CAN see plus points to this but then again, I see negatives. Maybe its me and I´m not understanding it properly but I´m going to reserve judgement on this. Well done on your discovery though

alcander : I´m aware that MS could at any time, decide that enough is enough and shut down the whole modding community. What I was saying is that seems as so MS have allowed us this bit of freedom, why try and get more? You´re approach is like some

Hmm, well until it is proven and accepted behaviour, theres not a chance that I´m playing with the EXE. A version number change is something far less consequential than jumping into the EXE and actually changing code. Its also plain respect of them not to do something which they have specifically asked us not to do, especially when they allow us so much freedom and still offer support to the community. EDIT: Actually, its also a test of imagination and ability. If you can come up with something truly reveloutionary and different at this stage of the game without touching the EXE, its impressive. EDIT: I can´t spell Edited by - devineman on 4/13/2005 6:14:39 AM

Welcome, its pretty hard to pick up people to help you without giving a description of your mod. TLR has a forum setup for this specific task, you can find it here Hope that helps

You can make it so nobody loses any stuff my looking in your Freelancer.ini file located within the EXE folder. Here under the [Server bracket, it has a line saying Death Penalty = 100 This can be changed so players dont lose anything which they are carrying when they die (changing it to Death Penalty = 0 for example )
