This reply is rather late, however I think many people miss the point on MP. The player base is shrinking. Too many mod makers are making "what they think" is the best mod, with little regard to what the players want/need. All this sexy stuff people talk about is fine, however, if it is not going to keep the interest of the players for more than a few days it ´s pretty pointless. There are some good mods out there and there are some average mods, however, there are very few mods which have any depth to them. I talk about the attention to detail here, in the economy, the history, faction relationships and plenty of documented details for the players to read in game etc etc. all this seems to be forgotten about very often. This is at the expense of some new sexy gear or ship etc. You cant keep a player at a server if you just throw some nice stuff and say "look, this is really cool", this novelty wears off after a week or so. The sooner some of the modders out there understand this the better for the players. The other thing is the variety and how often you change the mod to keep people interested. We changed our mod 3 times in 12 months, adding systems factions etc to keep the interest and grow the community. We now have over 7,700 ACTIVE characters on our server (Not just characters - but active ones). We are now undeniably one of the largest MP Servers. The thing is to listen to what the players want and balance it up. TNG is probably one of the most popular "multi server" mods, however, again I think its old news to some players and they move to other servers to get a taste of what else is out there. This will always be the case with players. Dont get me wrong, TNG is a fantastic mod, but players will move on. Sorry I didnt put the point over very well. What I meant was that the forum would be used for modders who are making their mods and experiencing ctd´s or spews which they cant solve, not for players who are having problems with the mod.

I think your talking about the entries in initialworld.ini. You need to use Fled-ids to generate the ids names and info.

This was mentioned some time ago. Apparently, it is something to do with an unused base that has been deleted but not all the entries have been deleted for it. This means checking all the relevent files - mbases.ini, rooms, universe, infocard etc. You will have an entry for an unused/non-existant base/room etc. Hope this helps

Hi Buck, I ran it through your 2.3.1 version of the mod and still cant find it. So I guess its something you have added after that, this might shorten the posibilities down for you? Uhm, U2U me on the "Admins" forum if you want me to take a look at your mod files.

Hi Buck, ERROR: cannot create_instance(). Archetype (0xbcc74b87) has no file assigned this is the entry in the Engine_equip ini and engine_good ini for ge_be_engine_01 The other one is not a native FL one, it will be one of your modded entries. I think the entries you get on your screen (last part of your post) are caused on the console when the server pc is also being used as a player. i.e. both a player and the server are being used on the same pc. This doesnt happen when the pc is only used by the server. Hope that makes sense.

It is one of your modded items causing the problem, not a stock FL item. As Cold Void said, get the crc tool, run the database and then put the number into the decimal section and it will come up with the problem item. The look at the settings etc for it., if you still have a problem fixing it, post the code relevant to it here and we can look at it for you

Uh, so someone posts in the beginners section about a problem and you say go read a tutorial. Maybe you should point it out for him or at least be a litle more helpful if you are answering a post in the beginners section, than just say "read a tutorial"

Yes it´s easy enough to do, however, any players that want to just log onto the server and play will be kicked before long. If you use an autoupdater, then this has to run before freelancer.exe runs. This is old ground that we have been on quite a few times in the past. Unfortunately, the game engine has the critical issue of only loading the .ini´s that are applicable once at startup and a fix to this hasn´t been worked out...yet.

I can help a little. The client files for commodities/ships etc must be the same price and the same location as the what the server files have. Therefore, if you change the files server side, the players will be kicked from the server (assuming you run the 1.1 patch, which most/all servers run) if they try and buy a commodity that either is a different price or is not located at that base. This normally happens at launch, not at the point of purchase. This goes for selling, also. In essence both the server and client files must match exactly. The ini files for these are loaded at start up only and they are loaded only once in the game. Unlike sytem ini´s these are not reloaded when docking or launching. Therefore to enable this to work effectively, you need a server restart, at the point of closing the server both the client and server files (commodities/ships etc) must be changed or the client musty have the updated files before they launch and join the server. Hope this helps

Hi Dazzla, search the downloads for "cardemine" this is an early mod that changed the "Loading" to "smoking Cardemine" I think. Then search the dll for smoking or cardemine and then you will have the address to change. But remember if you use this, then anybody playing the game in one of the other supported languages will have the game text/language reverted to english, so I am told.

Hi Harrier, Uhm did you also leave the originals in the solararch? I only copied them over, didnt delete the originals in solarch and it works fine for me.

Hi, I think you need to post this in the forum "Freelancer Server Forum", or if an admin is passing he might be good enough to move it there.

@ ARGH - you have this, please can you mail me the original freelimits 1.0 ? There are some other things I would like to look at with this release. Many thanks Edited by - Strail on 8/2/2005 3:11:56 AM

You know, I think if you are still having problems with this, you should consider a re-install of fl. I have abad feeling that maybe the freelancer.ini, wasnt the only file missing, so might be good to do a reinstall. Dont worry, as long as you dont click the "delete saved games" box, you will not lose your exisiting files. It could also be that you need to install the sdk from Louva (its on the same web site), this fixes many initial errors with FL as well. Hope this helps a little

Hi, You can either: Reinstall FL or Download an updated version from Louva at EOA, this version just logs more errors than the original one, but it does the same job for what you need it to do. freelancer.ini file download Place the file into the exe folder in freelancer. (Program Files/Microsoft Games/Freelancer/EXE hope this sorts it out Edited by - Strail on 7/30/2005 11:33:54 AM
