I am not an expert for that kind of problem, but happened to have a similar problem a while ago. Check in your network/properties if the router did install another copy of the connection protocol (don´t know its name, similar to TCP/IP). Such a double installation can cause strange results. In my case it helped to remove the second installation.

    I ran/run Freelancer on (all ATIs): 7500 9600 XT 9800 Pro X850 XT It runs fine everywhere, AGP or PCI-express (850XT). I read on these forums and several times elsewhere that some people with NVidia 6600 (mainly GTs) experienced some problems. For others those cards run fine.

    I do swear and I do like nasty words from time to time, but in oral language, not in written. For written language I agree with a lot of you there are more sublime words for swearing/insulting or whatever. Nice example imo: scene from Beckett´s "Waiting for Godot" (act 2) They glare at each other angrily. VLADIMIR: Ceremonious ape! ESTRAGON: Punctilious pig! VLADIMIR: Finish your phrase, I tell you! ESTRAGON: Finish your own! Silence. They draw closer, halt. VLADIMIR: Moron! ESTRAGON: That´s the idea, let´s abuse each other. They turn, move apart, turn again and face each other. VLADIMIR: Moron! ESTRAGON: Vermin! VLADIMIR: Abortion! ESTRAGON: Morpion! VLADIMIR: Sewer-rat! ESTRAGON: Curate! VLADIMIR: Cretin! ESTRAGON: (with finality). Crritic! VLADIMIR: Oh! He wilts, vanquished, and turns away

    From this thread and from another one here on TLR it is clrear now that you have problems with the RAW-Server and not with your FL-installation. So please go there to solve the problem

    Did you install SDK ? I have seen problems with buying ships when I tried to use Ioncross Character Editor if the database of ICE was not exactly the same as in the mod (i.e. there was no set of special ICE-Files. Then even after a fresh install the ships did not correspond exactly. I had to install SDK 1.5 instead. Yes, this sounds silly in a way. But I think if you can play FL without CTD but have problems only with buying ships something must be wrong with your ship-database/-file.

    I suppose you copy-pasted from your files. But there is a typo in the paragraph right after FactionProps:

capitlaships_bretonia2.ini

<font face=´trebuchet ms, Verdana, Arial, Helvetica´ size=2>

    a tad late - but nonetheless a happy birthday. hope you got a lot of garlic bread at your birthday party

    Just read on cncden.com how Lion was preparing his new rig:

Of course, I spent about two hours explaining why I needed the extra stuff, then agreed to take her to dinner, buy her new clothes, finish remodeling my office area by Tuesday, and clean the cat litter box for the next 100 years, etc. Whatever works I suppose, hehe.

<font face=´trebuchet ms, Verdana, Arial, Helvetica´ size=2> Good Luck, Indy - tell us what you had to do

    It is easy to handle mods (ehhrm - most of them). But you need to be aware that modifications change some/many game-files. That is the main reason why you normally have to start a new game when installing a new mod. The info in the save-game does not correspond exactly with the content of the files. And that causes crashes. But we have a nice tool for Freelancer: The Freelancer Mod Manager. after installing this program you can change from one mod to another by simply deactivating the first and activate the second mod. Link to FLMM 1.31 The Mod Manager even cleans your save-games and restores the existing ones for that specific mod again. Sometimes even with a new version of the same mod you had to start all over again. But - as a hint - sometimes it may work to use an old save-game - of a former version, not from another mod. You knwo, when I started using FL-mods I did everytime a complete backup of all files. But I never had to use it - thanks to FLMM.

    Look, you HAD other mods installed. So you do not have a so-called Vanilla-FL installation. A fresh installation means that you have to delete ANY save-games from your C:...acctssingleplayer and C:...acctsmultiplayer (make copy of them first in another folder like fl-backup). Most probably you have some changed dll´s (or similar) in your FL-files. If you do not want to start all over again in MP write e-mail to host. If you get confirmation, delete everything and install again. Start a new game (new player) on that server. Then the server-operator will edit your player and give back your credits.

    I agree wo the principles of your reflexion about core, orbit etc. to the Drake equation. But adding more factors that are closer to scientific facts will result in even lesser probability for finding intelligent and communicating civilizations in our galaxy. That means: the more "reality" you try to put into the Drake Equation the closer you get to Zero. limes 0. In other words : High numbers as result of the Drake Equation = Science Fiction Low numbers = Science Faction <0.01 = Science

    Evil Thing ROFL I liked this one:

I learned that banana was not spelt bananananananananananana. I learnt that climbing up high walls would result in pain.
</BLOCK

    I know - and that´s why I openend this thread. I ONLY used forum code (Links, italics) but all posts earlier today got screwed up. And I just wanted to tell the Mods/Arcon that there could be something wrong with a new version/test whatever. If there is no new version/testing around yet then just forget it. If you want to have a closer look: I had to edit this post at least four times
