I run a pirate clan. Been doing so for ages now. 18 months. Here´s another two cents - My observation is that there are lot of people who wanna "be" pirates...they wear pirate tags, act like it...but when you get right down to it, they still dock on Manhattan, and fly through Liberty unmolested. Pirate is an RP thing - what you are talking about is pretty much just general dockcamping and tolling. RP doesn´t happen on open forums. RP happens online. But these wannabes´ give me the SHhhhhhhhh............. Tonight I met a guy on a quiet server. When she pumps, she pumps, but as we all know there are the quiet times...the times of no-sleep crazies and strange foreign madmen. This guy was sitting at Rochester, making his money quietly. Those who know the trick that I mean, know what I mean. He had sat there for 10 hours. And on this server, Liberty is a no-PK zone.... Previously this same gentleman had destroyed one of our droms, unwarned attack. We had 3 in space in convoy - the first was caught napping (in space and on the phone), the second was a new guy who freaked and ran for dock (his drom was empty - all were), and the third launched an attack. Fair enough - my man could have kept a better watch. I wasn´t online at the time. Otherwise he wouldn´t have come close. This Eagle attacked in Sigma 19. No hailing. Fair enough. If you can´t take the heat, get out of the fire. Combat is combat. Now he belongs to a "pirate" clan. We make our money in the PK zone, and this guy just sat on his big fat drom at Rochester in a neutral rep. It´s how their clan makes money. He refused to leave and settle the score - and it was just the two of us online. His loot had been accumulating over a period of 10 hours. My Dagger destroyed it in less than two seconds. Liberty is a no PK zone. He had destroyed a drom of mine clan - targetted my clans´ economy. Mine was empty. Not that he knew that. I targetted his clans´ economy. His "stash" was worth millions. I think it was a waste of time - how can you protect your assetts in a non-PK environment, if you ain´t gunna hold on to it? Call me insensitive. But there is no WAY you will catch me living in a no-PK zone, doing absolutely nothing to earn my cash, at no risk of loss of life or wing. I gave him due warning in my own way - dropped all the hints on chat, all the way from Trafalgar to Rochester. To be a pirate takes style. It doesn´t matter how good you are. Nope. Not like us at all. Clans require communication to survive. They require an online presence. We have our own server events - we duel each other a lot, chase Player-Freighters around systems, fight in wars, and have our own missions - tasks ranging from PK to logistics and support. Well, you got a choice, and the Dagger will survive anything if you know what you are doing...also note that that the Drom, Stiletto, Wolfhound, Bloodhound, Mule, and a few others...no to mention the VHF´s...are pirate ships. What the hell does a bad a$$ want with a Cavalier? Wanna be a pirate? Kill "good guys". Beam free cargo. My Ship is a Dagger. I run it with a basic set-up - 1 x Adv Stunpulse (3) 1 x Slingshot missile (3) 2 x Dragoons (4) 1 x Pyros Turret (4) Driller, Cutter or Ripper (depending on where and what I´m at) Playing PvP - lotta fun to duel one on-one-with Daggers, Droms and so on. Getting a few Daggers together is great for hunting Large Prey (including Eagles). Playing the AI - gets a rush going in Alpha, need a real good run in Beta (due to the radiation and length of time to achieve mission objectives), 2 keeps it a challenge in Beta, 3 makes it too easy. I just go for the jugular<img src=smilies/icon_smile_wink.gif width=15 height=15 border=0 align=middle> Keep moving, stay alert and keep an eye on your wingmans´ back, make sure he´s watching yours. I´ve been on it heaps with no lag - I like it...maybe it´s the timezone though, and there´s someone logged in that ain´t when I´m on. You may wanna check the connection you´re using if the lags´ hitting the red. Could it be the I.S.P., for example. btw Stinger - what alterations did you make whilst it was down?

I ask them to keep this forum going... I also ask that people do not turn this into a NEO - bashing thread. To be fair, NEO is not the only clan to commit "e-thuggery". The kick I get out of the game derives from teamwork. The clan I developed revolves around the idea of not flying VHF´s. The result is we like to take our ships to places like Omicron Alpha and tackling the biggest missions we can get; 230 k missions heaps of Bounty Hunters vs 2-5 Daggers is a lot of fun. I also derive a kind of pleasure from PK - usually in the form of the Duel, occaisionally in the form of a Hunt. I have had quite a few memorable duels in my Dagger versus worthy opponents in Droms, other Daggers and other kinds of ships. But the Dagger doesn´t cut it vs some of the other ships in the FL universe, for example the Drake and the Eagle. We have yet to dock-camp anybody - it´s simply abhorrent. It also doesn´t class as PK. I liked the analogy to sucker-punching a toddler more. There are a lot of ships available to fly in the FL universe - and it is up to individual tastes as to what people fly. Simply stating that someone is stupid for not flying one of the big 4 ships - Drake, Eagle, Sabre or Titan - is just very close-minded. It removes the option of free choice.Destroying ships in a lower class category is simply very weak paying. Doing so repeatedly is just cowardly. In the real world, people die once. One would expect you to be left alone after being killed once. Sure it´s a PK sever - someone died - so they should cease to exist in the victors´ target scope. You know you got hit, or you know you scored a hit. PK done. Why sit outside and wait? People take this game too far sometimes. To those that heard of the death-threat-in-personal-e-mail incident (which I will not expand upon here) you know what I mean. The other night I was dock-camped on Malta. I did not bother to launch after the first occurence. What would be the point? My gaming time is limited - I have a full-time job that eats up a lot of my time, as well as a real life. I simply do not have the time to spare sitting in a dock, waiting for some e-thug to exit the system. It ruins my game (I don´t get to play it). Yet the dock-camper described me as "boring". I dunno - here I am, alone, in a Dagger in Alpha, with Bountys hounding me in every system I go through (not to mention all of the police and all corporations in the FL universe taking a pot-shot), and flying missions. There he is, sitting in the most common ship (and I mean common) outside a dock, probably with a totally neutral reputation, doing nothing except waiting for someone to approoach, dock, and then attempt to exit again. Who´s boring? I am against dock-camping. I am for PK, whether it be an un-announced strike in open ground, in defence of an allied AI faction, or in the form of a friendly duel. I am against repeatedly targetting the same person. Even my enemies know this. I do not think it will change anything, however. I think that if dock-camping is permitted, it will destroy the game. I have - a loooong time ago. Surprisingly, FL is playable at those speeds. It´s a little ****y at times, and unfair in PvP matches - makes you very hard to hit. If your just after the group missions and trade run experiences though, you´ll go fine <img src=smilies/icon_smile.gif width=15 height=15 border=0 align=middle> You may also wanna try to find a server that pings as low as you can get. I would like to know what the stance is that Elite takes when PK players start sending e-mails to the private addresses of other players on the server - death-threats and the like, that don´t specify in-game only, either.

NEO and a fair duel? I don´t think so. I fly a Dagger. I fly it on missions in Alpha. These guys have been busting their chops to duel me, given that I am a clan leader. They offer to duel - and tell me they are in Daggers too - so I rock up to the pre-arranged meeting spot - and guess what? I am confronted with Drakes every time. NoTec acts the same as well. Wow. You guys are really good pilots. Drink my sarcasm. The funny thing is, none of them have accepted my offer to duel in a Dagger vs Dagger contest - not in a Dagger, anyway. And they call ME a COWARD? Yet my Dagger, with an extremely bad rep with any AI Police/Corp/Bounty Hunter faction, flies around Alpha...and the rest of the FL universe... The F1 key is lame. If you are packing for a holiday, play the game when you are finished. You assosciate with a clan that bullies lighter ships - I hope your hull blows. Last time I ran - and the amazing thing was, my Drake pursuer (one Carlsoneo) would at one point be 2.8 k behind me, then 756m behind me, take his pot shot, miss, fall behind to 3.8k, and suddenly be up my ass at 1374m like a yoyo - and whilst I was in full cruise? I gotta wonder about that, now that I´ve read some of the other posts on the MP forum...

This seems like a good time... War. A very strong word. The ramifications of war are long-lasting. People don´t just make treaties, just because politicians do. Not if a true war has been declared. The majority of what I have seen on servers is more of a brawl than a War. Like what goes on behind the bike sheds after school... If you´d like to co-ordinate something special, let me know. We´ll organise it properly. I am not talking about VHF battles in the borderworlds. I am talking variety, objectives, and scope.

Want a challenge? Try turning your rep up-side-down, and try not flying the VHF´s - go for a Dagger instead. You´ll use jumpholes more, see more, and the further you take that Dagger, the more you´re gonna need to know about flying it and equipping it.

RE - Hittin´ the F1 button. This is a stupid idea, to log out and back in during altercation with other players of the game. If you don´t like PK, step off the mat and go to a non-PK server. Very simple. Fight the AI only, and make lots of money. Live life in the trade-lanes. See ya. I don´t agree with dock-rape. I don´t agree with killing total newbs. But I have faced the situations mentioned here before, carrying a load of cargo, or being attacked, plenty of times. I have lived and died in my FL alternate reality - if you´re gonna make a sandwich, why don´t you dock somewhere first? Otherwise you´re just half-stepping. It is useful to park your ship in space at times, but lame to do so when interacting with others. Try getting even instead. Maybe you´ll become more skiled. Slake Clan Leader The Fringe Raiders.

To - Korruption. In regards to online conversation held on Elite at 0512 27072003 GMT. You advised that your members would be at a disadvantage in any ship bar the VHF´s as they are unused to flying them. If this is the quality of your troops then I suppose it would be pointless to indulge you in War. I suggest you learn to play Shogi or at least Chess then. Both are very good games at illustrating what I have proposed. To stay in your VHF´s and refuse to engage on any other terms means that I am unable to accomodate you. Be careful who you kill. That, we will take personally. You are not issuing a Declaration of War. You are a two-bit thug administering a threat. I will ignore your posts from now on.
