i thought this movie was mediocre. i thought it was good, not amazing, not terrible, but good. It did what it said on the box but never more than that. there were bits that were great, there were bits that were bad. the son, for example, i´d have *****-slapped years ago.

dont be a cunt, im talking a little bit of consideration for people who ´havent´ being all elitist about it isnt gonna help any. i went to see this version with a guy who had no idea what the story was, nor how it ends. im sure there are people who didnt give two hoots about ´reading´ or maybe didnt catch the less than good movie made before this. maybe i should just tell people how fight club ends, how the usual suspects turns out? maybe i think people that havent seen/read the endings to those stories needs punishing as well. -arc

haha, that really sucks. if its a daily occurance then its not special when a propper fireworks display comes along. maybe there´s just a lot of birthdays over there? -arc

i really liked it kudos for thinking ben afleck was in it, i like your comments, really shows you know what the crap you´re talking about and puts all your OTHER coments in a new light as "maybe you havent got a clue what you´re on about " the tripods are awesome, their weapons go pow-puff in a satisfying way of taking care of the scum of the earth. There are all kinds of continuity problems which bugged me, but for visuals and story, its pretty good. Lets not pretend this was going to be anything else but a whiz-bang SFX extravaganza. We all know the plot, even if we´ve not seen the original or read the book, we´ve seen Independence day, which is the same movie but...different. cruise is good in this, not ´Collateral´ good but adequate. His role was a bit cliched but thats forgivable. The kids are annoying and you dont really believe the bond between them. Plus dakota fanning is far too smart for her age, so she just comes off as unbelievable. especially when her smarts go completely out of the window half an hour in. i couldnt help but think of half life 2 by the last quarter of the movie and im looking forward to someone pumping out a hl2 mod for this so i can drive a tripod around and blow up people. go see it for a fun adventure and dirty aliens who think they can take over earth. dont go thinking its going to be an epic of Dune proportions. It´s better than the original movie but also different. completely different character we follow this time around. -arc

batman begins is better than the previous batman films keaton was too crap, too eighties, to depressed. He never really had the fire of batman, he wasnt insane enough. Burton focused is attention on the villains. They got more than their fair share of screen time because thats the kind of director burton is. As such, it kind of stuck for shumacer as well. They all just assume we know batman enough to just go straight into looking at the baddies. Batman is as dark and as unhinged as the badguys he beats up on. Since the mid eighties, the driving force behind the stories was that he was only a hairline away from becoming the obsessed maniacs he was fighting. The previous films also implied that wayne wanted release from batman, that it was a job he got tired of, that he didnt want to do. Begins really shows that this is just bull**** and that personal luxuries like being a playboy and keeping up the wayne appearances, that was all alfreds idea and wayne didnt really want anything to with it. I loved how they resolved the love plot. While i would have preferred there not to have been one, i thought it was dealt with sensibly and really highlighted how much different bruce has become since his parents death and his self-imposed exile. Batman;s line when he says that Gordon will never have to say thank you just thrilled me to bits. here´s a guy who freely gave up his life and any future hapiness in order to save people the misery that crime can create. His life ended the day his parents died, now he´s protecting everyone elses. It´s really honorable and also disturbing at how far Batman as a character is willing to go. What stands out as possibly the finest piece of batman footage ever was his interrogation of the crooked cop upside down in a rainy backalley. Every single line "DO I LOOK LIKE A COP!" "SWEAR TO ME!" just goes to show the utter hatred that is coursing through his veins and the closeness he is to just killing everyone. Batman´s strength in the comicbook is fear. for 20 years he´s been a terror in the night, something that literally hunts the criminals of the city. He becomes a reputation, he becomes an icon. Finally the movies have caught up with who this man is. The Kaiser Soze of the comic book world. Listening to the goons talk to each other about the hearsay of who batman really is, is really electrifying, better yet seeing him through the eyes of someone halucinating from Scarecrow´s toxic gas is unmatchable. Black blood from the mouth, glowing eyes. How in gods name this film was only rated at a 12 is anyone´s guess, but i found this film re-assuringly creepy, frightning and exactly right. Sure the batmobile is great, the gadgets are cool, but the best of the film is watching the horror movie turned on its head and watching thugs and goons picked off in split second attacks from the monster in the dark. Here instead of being terrified of the demon slaughtering the nubile teenagers from oh-so-many "scream" rip offs, we´er seeing a man who´s lost a fair bit of reality, dressed as a bat taking out guards silently and amazingly in a way Sam Fisher would wet his pants to do. This film is brilliant, i can only find a handful of flaws and theyre analy retentive flaws that make absolutely **** all difference to your enjoyment of the movie. I just wished the sequel was made and i could just keep watching. I didnt look at my watch once and would gladly have sat through 2 more hours of crime fighting. -arc

Sociopath You are 85% Rational, 42% Extroverted, 71% Brutal, and 100% Arrogant. You are the Sociopath! As a result of your cold, calculating rationality, your introversion (and ability to keep quiet), your brutality, and your arrogance, you would make a very cunning serial killer. You care very little for the feelings of others, possibly because you are not a very emotional person. You are also very calculating and intelligent, making you a perfect criminal mastermind. Also, you are a very arrogant person, tending to see yourself as better than others, providing you a strong ability to perceive others as weak little animals, thus making it easier to kill them. In short, your personality defect is the fact that you could easily be a sociopath, because you are calculating, unemotional, brutal, and arrogant. Please don´t kill me for writing mean things about you! To put it less negatively: 1. You are more RATIONAL than intuitive. 2. You are more INTROVERTED than extroverted. 3. You are more BRUTAL than gentle. 4. You are more ARROGANT than humble. on the one hand i might think "yeah, thats about right" but a lot of those questions i could have gone either way on. I AM very emotional, and a lot of my decisions are from the heart instead of from the head, i just went with what i most likely to happen. Yeah, so im not to sure. But sociopath, still pretty much me. -arc Edited by - Arcon on 6/12/2005 4:42:46 PM

this may not be as good a boost as you might think. Gaming activists have spent the last few years trying to convince knee**** folk across the world that when some gamer kid freaks out and starts killing people, its because theyre nuts, nut because they play counterstrike. Regardless, some people still think that its all games´ fault and try and ban the filthy things like metal music after columbine. There are folks who maintain that the washington sniper learned his trade from playing with the sniper rifle from halo constantly, whereas anyone who has ever played halo ever will more likely say "no, its just that he WAS a military sniper and WAS in the USMC". Anyway, after Full Spectrum Warrior, its unsuprising that the US Gov. would use any and all games they could to teach tactics and strategy. I wouldnt be suprised if Battlefield 2 hit their list soon either. -arc

this is an interesting, if not hideously flawed thread. you´ve seen an advert for a game which wasnt that good, yet people go out and buy it, and they think "hmm, this game is bad" they dont really then say "all games must equal bad". the same way i dont think all tv is crap because i´ve seen big-brother or that all movies are dross because i accidentally saw "the core" you know? people take games very seriously, the problem is that not all games are mainstream enough to be marketed at joe public on the large screen. having games like half life 2, a game which requires a reasonably high-spec pc to run is SUCH a smaller market than for GTA 5 which every playstation owner can buy and play. plus, the audience for GTA is much wider than for Half Life 2. PS2 is more mainstream and socially accepted. Sticking an advert on for a wider audience and for a more accepted game (not that GTA is acceptable if John Thompson is to be believed (google his name)) makes far more sense. Many of these mainstream games are a pile of crap though and so they litter the mainstream press with ads for it so people have gotten their money over the till before they know about it. If a game is good, like hl2, it will be a massive hit without anywhere near the amount of exposure. making more overall profits for the companies involved who DIDNT have to spend millions on blanket coverage. If a game is good, it will sell on its own merits and word will spread of how good it is through magazines, websites, word of mouth. If a game is bad, expect a lot of press coverage. If its good AND its being advertised, then assume that the companies are riding that baby all the way to the bank. -arc

what the hell? splinter cell? ffx? these games are like so hyped and succesful its untrue. enter the matrix was overhyped and a pile of crap. i´ll second evil genius. and also republic: the revolution. both by elixir studios and both a little bit too good for what we deserve. Unfortunately the studio went under because of lacking sales. personally, my most overlooked game of all time is Star Wars: rebellion/supremacy (google for it) and i still get it out every few months and emark on an epic multiplayer game. of 03/04 i would have to say that Tron 2.0 was the most overlooked game. Very cool for someone like me who always loved the tron movie and reveled the chance to do all the cool disk action as well as light cycles. They even shipped the mod tools with it and i was REALLY expecting some seriously awesome mods to come out of it, allowing me to recapture the 80s and the fun of the movie yet nothing came from it. It still sits on my shelf and i always promise to play through it again and maybe even spent the time to create soemthing for it, but i, like the rest of the world, dont have the time for it. -arc

an entire religion based around myself for one. plus a totalitarian government moved in and ruined everything, stinker made admin and half the vets were made mods. -arc

i dont think anyone is under the impression that lucas´s saga is a masterstroke of creativity and originality. he constantly says its a simple tale that´s been told countless times before and he´s just repackaged it for modern audiences. judging by the fact that now every thread on OT is devoted to star wars, its clear that he´s succeeded. -arc

There was no need to follow Obi Wan on his jaunt after General Grievous, nor Yoda on his Wookie tour; it should have focused soley upon Anakin/Vader.

<font face=´trebuchet ms, Verdana, Arial, Helvetica´ size=2>exactly, there was no need for either of those scenes except maybe to have the two jedi off corruscant when order 66 came into play. Even so, there are better ways of having the two survive. Having greivous survive the opening battle then meander off to a pointless planet only to move the seperatist leaders to ANOTHER pointless planet and he dies. why NOT instead just have greivous die at the hand of obi wan on the spaceship and dooku fights anakin? we could have had cool cuts between the two battles. if dooku planned to capture the jedi, it would makde sense to do it by splitting them up. with split up jedi, there was no one to stop palpatine from influencing anakin to lop his head off. obi wans early exit from that battle was terrible. both the baddies should then die and the seperatists are thrown into turmoil. Needing to re-form, the leaders retreat to that mustafar planet. palpatine refuses to return power and anakin is seduced. the movie is marred by too much planet hopping, characters introduced for 20 seconds just to sell a new toy. if lucas made the story up as he went along it seems clear that he had an idea about the beginning and the end and didnt really have a way to link them together. -arc
