I´ll use this thread since it already helped me. Is it really the ptough.ini that rules levels? Or does the 1.1 patch create a new file for that? I downloaded 1.1, then modded ptough to have a level 41. Yet somehow, my ship on my server is level 80, when there is no level 80. It is good I now have a level 80, I would just like to know how to control it.

How do you want to slow it down? Are the ships flying to fast? That can be solved, but will take you some time to do. Exactky how do you want to slow down the game?

Everything you mentioned needs both a server and client side mods. As to "warp" drives, well that depends what you mean. The speed of ships can be increased greatly, but the only way to travel through systems is jumpholes or jumpgates.

Hmm, well it depends what you mean. In "vanilla" ,meaning non modded, MP there really isn´t anything extra. However, I don´t know of any servers that don´t have at least a server side mod. Not to mention fighting real people, instead of NPC´s. That is a massive difference.

The race has to be the most talked about mission in the game. Use the search function in the FL forums, and you will see what I mean. The ship you are in really doesn´t matter. The way to do it is use shift-W to engage cruise, and stay close. The last 2 gates are where you will win, because Hovis goes way off course. It isn´t easy, and took me 2 or 3 tries. Of course, you could simply change your thruster speed to faster than 300, and you will easily win as well. Edited by - Why? on 5/3/2005 2:57:52 PM Edited by - Why? on 5/3/2005 2:58:50 PM

Check the FL editing utilities forum, they offer tons of commodity helper type thingies. BUT most mods don´t want you scanning the ini´s, and they consider it cheating, and a bannable offense.

To play on a server you set up on the same comuter, just start FL like normal and go to the LAN section of MP, you should see your server instantly.

DS is a great program. I was wondering though if you were going to add any more features to the commodities section. Like being able to see more then just the best few trades, showing maybe all the trades?

After reading this thread, I like the ideas listed. But the thing I would like to see most hasn´t really been said. That is fully upgradeable ships. Not just like thrusters and the like, or armor like in Privateer. But everything. Say I actually like my Starflier. I should be able to upgrade the engine and powerplant to be able to fire more powerfull weapons, and use better shields. Then I should be able to upgrade my weapon mounts, So I could make those 3 mount all hold cl 10 guns. Then I should be able to add more gun mounts, and a better shield mount. And of course, better armor, thrusters, engines, powerplants, etc. But most importantly, it all should be balanced, so as I upgrade and modify my little starflier, it changes the stats so that my ship is still balanced with the rest of the game. So that If I go nuts and have a Starflier with 8 class 10 guns, a powerplant that can continuosly run them all, plus a lvl 10 shield, a really fast thruster with almost no drain, not to mention 2 missile mounts, the ship will still be balanced with everything else. Meaning in this scenario, the Starfliers handling would worsen with each upgrade, until it handles like a big huge VHF, or maybe even worse. Of course, I know this would take a major overhaul of how the ships are handled in the ini files, but I think it should be done. Also, better NPC AI and ships. I´d like to see NPC´s just as hard, or even harder to kill then PC´s. This of course would entail NPC´s in VHF´s as well. So flying through systems you might stumble over a wing of LF´s, or a wing of VHF´s. And attacking a base would find you going against at least a wing of VHF´s, which would be almost impossible for 1 PC in a VHF to succesfully attack.

Why play FL? Because nothing is as relaxing as watching ships blow up. Taking out a Sabre and cutting a swath through the entire sector, to the extent where loot is everywhere, and an obvious loot trail is left for traders to scoop up, is great relaxation. There is nothing better than to hear the pilots screaming as their ships blow up, and then selling the loot for profit. PvP is good fun as well. Seeing how good you really are compared to other people, and seeing how others arm their ships differently is fun. Seeing people master different combat techniques, like using torps in combat, is cool as well, especially knowing how long it took them to master it. But the real reason I play FL is because it is the best Space Sim out there. I have played the Roberts brothers games since Wing Commander 1, and they just do it right. The only other game I really play is Madden football. But 90% of my free time is spent on FL, and that will not change until a better similar type of game comes out.

The reason I mention the junkers is because I went to almost all of the bases listed for bribes to the lane hackers, rogues, and LWB, and I coudn´t find any bribes, but I always saw a junker who had nothng to say, which makes me think that the junker was the one who offered the bribe, once I was at least nuetral with them. I can´t seem to bribe these three factions, because it seems that all the bribes are with the other two factions.

Thanx I have tried bribing, but it seems that I can never find the bribe. I am having a major problem with the junkers. It seems that I try and bribe them, but The briber is from the liberty rogues. Then I try to bribe the rogues, and he is a junker. Also, I am somehow actually friendly with the xenos. So if I read this right, I can go xeno hunting and get most of the factions at least nuetral with me? Then I go bribe xenos, and then kill a few more, and all will be nuetral? Thanx I will try this.

there´s a helluva lot of ideas out there, but here´s some that i can think of: -the Rodger Young from "Starship Troopers" (maybe the fighter too) -the Gunstar from "The Last Starfighter" -Dr. Who´s phone-booth thing (TARSIS I believe) -Starbug or Red Dwarf (or was starbug already done, I don´t recall whether or not it was for Starlancer) -Dr. Evil´s *OTHER* rocket (IE: it looks like a...) -any one of the Thunderbirds (as in the 60´s kids show, not the stunt-flyers) -anything from the Wing commander games (or movie, but I´d suggest against it unless it were the Tiger´s Claw, that would fit in this game perfectly) -some sort of giant Mecha (IE: Gundam, Evangelon, ETC.) -the NSEA Protector from "Galaxy Quest" -Spaceball one (ship mode or mega-maid mode), or the space-Winnebago. -one of the alien ships from ID4 -souped up 60´s NASA vehicles (ever play Battlezone ?)

I´d love to join in this. I already have a character done from a previous SL-based story I did for a school assigment (I did it while completely ignoring my teacher in class, would you believe I got an %80). It was set right after the borodin incident (IE: the end of the game) and basically intoduces some new stuff. my only forseeable problems would be that: 1)he´s meant to be the character you playin the game (it could be changed so that he was another top pilot from the flying tigers) 2) he is the commander of a newly-commissioned squadron (35th Eagles) with a smilar structure to the tigers (IE: international pilots, pretty much the cream of the crop from the alliances top squadrons). 2) a new capship class, the odysseus. this is a brand-new class built and designed by the americans, the british and the japanese to become the new flagships for he alliance. unfortunately, the alliance was attacked while still in the later stages of construction (IE: the hulls were pretty much spaceworthy, but most of their systems were not installed) . the two existing prototypes were able to escape to neptune before the shipyards were destroyed. while at neptune the ships were able to be completed, with a few modifications. the designs were changed to accomodate the wormhole jump system, a more advanced point-defense barrier and fire-controll system, a new sheild system, and a powerful main gun (the alliances answer to the ion cannon). The two ships, the ANS Odysseus, and the ANS Dreadnought, were launched just prior to the liberation of Titan, and are still having their fighter-squadrons delivered. (Note: the Dreadnought is meant to be the Eagles´ base-carrier.
