Whoa whoa whoa whoa!!! You need a VIDEO CARD for this game?!?!?! I thought space was supposed to look completely black, devoid of any stars or planets or visual effects of any kind... Those are my thoughts, not yours, I´m WapCaplet[!

I have to agree with swb´s post. If you don´t like the Freelancing missions, you´re probably not going to like the game much at all after the single player missions are done. Keep in mind, the game is called Freelancer. I would be dissapointed if the game only consisted of a linear single player story line. Sure, the story might be really good, but that´s not Freelancing. The title of the game itself implies that this game is very open-ended and relies on the player to make the most of the game. If you need the single player story to push you along and make the game enjoyable, then be preapred to be disspointed because the single player game makes up a very, very small portion of this game. However, if you have a good imagination and love the concept of being dropped into the middle of an expansive universe complete with warring factions, beautiful environments, a variety of bases, planets, ships, etc, then you will love the game. Basically it´s a sandbox game. It´s only as good as you make it. Think of it as The Sims in outerspace. Maybe that´s why there are so many people who are dissapointed with the game. They want the game to tell them what to do rather than deciding for themselves. This is not intended to be a flame. Just one man´s opinion. And as always... Raven you are hilarious. Truly entertaining. I should start counting the number of times you have contradicted yourself. The fact that you returned to the forum to see reponses to your own message, even though you distinctly said you were now done with this forum, is priceless. Nice cut and paste by the way. I guess I have been trolled since I have been drawn into your controversy, but it´s just too entertaining not to. Sorry to all those who are getting frustrated with this thread and the one prior, but Raven is providing me with too much laughter not to continue to point out his blatent idiocy. Ah, such fun. Raven, did you even READ that definition. How about this part: "A variant of the second variety (inflammatory messages) involves posting content obviously severely contradictory to the focus of the group or forum..." Now, I´m not sure if you can understand that sentence since there are quite a few really big words in it, but basically it means "If you post a message on a forum that is FOR one thing, and your message is obviously AGAINST that thing, you are a TROLL!" Ok, here´s the challenge Raven. Try ACTUALLY leaving the forum and the game. No really. I want you to dig deep down inside, where those hardened opinions of yours have been forming, and summon up the courage to stand by your convictions by ACTUALLY going away and not responding anymore. See if you can do that. Good luck. Those are my thoughts, not yours, I´m WapCaplet[!

Raise your hand, all those who have been swayed by Raven´s comments and now agree with him: <counting> Whoa, I don´t think I can count that low... Actually, you know what, Raven, you´re right. We all agree with you now. The game is over. This forum will be shut down and we will all uninstall our games right now and start playing something else. Congratulations. I mean, that is your intent, right? I don´t really see any other reason for your comments, except to draw attention to yourself. Well done. Arg, I´m being drawn into the troll post myself...I should stop typing and go back to exploring the expansive and engaging universe of Freelancer (shhh, don´t tell Raven). Those are my thoughts, not yours, I´m WapCaplet[!

Thanks for the info. That makes sense now. I think if you have been to the same base a number of times and someone says "You´re new around here, aren´t you?", Trent should say "No, aren´t YOU new around here? I´ll need to see YOUR card!" And if the reputation is no good with that person, Trent could throw the card back in their face and stomp off saying "Sorry pal, I don´t want any of your business." Haha! Those are my thoughts, not yours, I´m WapCaplet[!

If the base you are at sells ships, you might be able to trade your current ship in for a CHEAPER one. The idea being that a healthy, crappy ship is better than an awesome ship that only needs one hit to be turned into space dust. I think salvaging is your best option right now. It could be that you are truly stuck and will have to resort to a saved game, but I would try just about anything to get your butt out of the fire on this one. It actually adds a rather exciting element to the game. I mean, what would Han Solo do if his ship were near destruction and he was out of money. If he had the same options, he would sell parts and scrape together whatever he had in order to survive. And isn´t that the nature of the game in some ways? You´re a Freelancer. Do whatever it takes to survive, even if that means a crappy ship with crappy weapons right now. You need the money. But again, if you can´t do any of that, then you must re-load a saved game. But try first. If you succeed, this could be a highlight of your gaming experience with FL. "Oh man, there was this time my ship was totally destroyed and I had no money, and there were like 200 ships waiting to blow me to pieces. So here´s what I did..." Good luck! Those are my thoughts, not yours, I´m WapCaplet[!

Hmmm, tough situation. Here´s something you can try: - sell enough weapons, missiles, etc to get money to repair your ship and buy some shield/nanobot stuff. Not sure how badly damaged your ship is, so only you will know how much you will get for it. - launch from base and use afterburner to get the heck away from the battle to the nearest trade lane (use cruise if you think you can last longer enough while the engines prepare and there are no cruise disruptor missiles flying around) - go to another base, take some missions, do some mining or trading maybe, enough to get your ship back up to snuff. Basically, start salvaging weapons and equipment from your ship in exchange for hull and shield repairs. The idea being that you get your ship in good enough shape to get away from the battle, not fight in it (since your weapons will be sold or exchanged for cheaper ones). However, I am not sure which mission you are on so I don´t know if you will be able to flee the battle without screwing up the mission. Those are my thoughts, not yours, I´m WapCaplet[!

Great rules! I think you should add: Rule #7 - Be sure to include a generalized insult aimed at a specific group (usually age), with the purpose of making yourself appear better and more knowledgable, despite the fact that your insult contains no actual thought or intelligence. Those are my thoughts, not yours, I´m WapCaplet!

Raven, every time you post here, you are simply asking for critical responses. You are not going to convince us of anything, and obviously, we aren´t going to convince you. So why don´t you get lost and let the rest of us enjoy the game. Then again, I am quite enjoying responding to your highly intellectual posts. Raven, let me know if you didn´t catch the sarcasm there. I´ll explain it to you. Wap

Raven, it would also appear from your post that you pirated this game. Perhaps I could give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you were given a copy as a present or something, but you made a point of mentioning that you are glad you did not give them any money. So unless you got a copy legitimately, I don´t think you have a right to criticize the game at all. However, I will concede that forums are not JUST for people who love the game. True. Seriously, you are right about that. But the point I was trying to make is that it is pointless to just announce that you are done with the game and THEN criticize it. There are a number of posts on this forum that discuss ways the game could be made better. It´s called constructive criticism. But when you simply announce that you are done and point out the flaws, you are just making noise. Those of us who love the game still find flaws. Every game has flaws. But we discuss them somewhat intelligently so as to enhance the experience and possibly provide input for future patches, mods, etc. Anyway, I´m starting to ramble. I´ll sum up. Raven, a good game should be able to stand up to scrutiny and a degree of criticism. And I agree that forums are the place for discussion, ANY discussion about the game. However, announcing that you are done with the game, and that you never actually paid for it in the first place, takes significant weight from your particular criticism. And as I have said, if you are truly done with this game, I guess you will be leaving. Those are my thoughts, not yours. I´m WapCaplet.

Raven, I think you might have missed the point of this forum. Generally it´s for people who actually ENJOY the game and like playing it. If everyone felt the way you do, this forum probably wouldn´t exist. So you don´t like it. Fine. Now let the rest of us who DO like it carry on and enjoy it. You have no reason to remain on this forum since, as you said, you are done with this game. Fairwell. And, it´s fairly pointless to complain to US about what you don´t like about the game. Are we supposed to care what you think? Go complain to Microsoft or DA if you are that concerned. The rest of us, as I have said, like the game. You won´t convert us. So save your breath and go tell someone who cares. Wap

There was a Canadian ship, but at the last minute they decided not to support any of the other nations and remained behind... I´m a Canuck so I can make that joke. Hopefully I haven´t opened a can of controversial worms though, in light of recent events in the US and Canada position (ie, stationary). Wap

Speaking of tractoring in stuff, in SP is it possible for NPCs to steal stuff that is floating around in space? Also, if I leave a bunch of stuff floating around (say, because my cargo hold is full), but I leave a waypoint marker at that spot, then fly to a base and return, will the stuff still be there? Wap

My biggest suggestion to DA would be more variety in missions. The biggest feature mentioned about the game prior to its release was the fact that you could choose your own destiny. In fact, the box itself lists 6 different "professions" you can pursue; (I can´t remember them right now and I´m at work so I can´t check my box). The official website even touts that you can become a lane hacker, pirate, policeman, etc. Microsoft really makes the game sound open-ended, which I think is their main selling point. The problem is that the missions do not really reflect this. When it comes right down to it, there is only ONE kind of mission; blow up ships. The game would be so much better if DA simply added more types of missions. Now, I am not a programmer, but I do have a reasonable amount of computer knowledge (as many gamers do), and it doesn´t seem like it would be that difficult to add a variety of missions including cargo deliveries, passenger deliveries, recon missions, etc. Nothing fancy, but it would add a little more variety to the game and would give players that true "freelancer" feel. The merchant player would be able to take missions for carrying goods or smuggling equipment and drugs. The bounty hunter player could assassinate or (even better) capture and return notorious criminals. The navy/police player could do recon missions, scouting missions and, of course, combat missions. The pirate player could get missions from the "bad guys" of the game to attack certain freighters, steal certain cargo, disrupt certain convoys or trade lanes. The possibilities are endless and it would only take DA designing 5 or 6 different mission "templates" and throwing in some random variables like they do with the "blow up ships" missions. The game is awesome, but I think it would be truer to the "freelancer" spirit if there were more variety of missions. My 2 cents... Wap

I find a good way to cloak my ship is to fly it into a mine field. There is a bright flash of light, a loud noise, and then I´m invisible!! Works like a charm... But for some reason the "Load Game" menu comes up every time... Must be a bug... Wap "It´s you Leia, you´re my sister." "I know. Somehow, I´ve always known." "You KNEW?[! BLECH[![!"

In the Italian system, bartenders would be quite fat and wear big chefs hats and talk with an Italian accent while asking if you want more pasta: "Bongiorno!! Welcome to-ah my-ah humble little-ah cafe! What-ah can Mario get-ah for you?" And instead of pirates, there would be the "family": "Ey! Tough guy! ´Dis is Guido, an´ I´m tellin´ ya ta drop dat there cargo and get outa here! Fugetaboutit!!" Wap "It´s you Leia, you´re my sister." "I know. Somehow, I´ve always known." "You KNEW?[!?[! BLECKH[![!"

Along those same lines, I have a question about reputations. What if I "accidentally" shoot some liberty ships? Ok, maybe I should explain. I wanted to try being a pirate, but hadn´t played the game much so I decided to just find a freighter, formed up with it until it was a ways away from a base, then I started shooting it. It eventually blew up and I had to kill the escort (liberty ships), but I was saddened to find no cargo... How does one be a pirate at all? The game "features" on the box talk all about "choose your own destiny", but I can´t figure out how to actually BE a pirate (ie, make a living off it). Anyway, I digress. So now Liberty hates me. Obviously I could try a bribe to get back in their good books, but is there another way? And how do I survive in the Liberty sector without getting killed now? Newb questions, I know... Wap
