Microsoft had to make some hard decisions when finalizing the game for release. They realized that they couldn´t have a Florida system because of the space alligators. Space alligators are terrifying creatures that roam the trade lanes, preying on unsuspecting cargo haulers carrying raw meat. Space alligators.....they´re scary man. Even saying it gives me the shivers. "Space alligators". Ooooohhhhh......<shudder> Wap

I always thought Aikido was more of a passive martial art. I knew a guy who got his black belt in aikido and he said that most of the moves are throws and parries that use the opponents energy against them. I think I recall him saying there are very few moves in Aikido that are attacks. Almost all of them are responses to an attack. It sounds like a very defensive type of martial art to me, which may appeal to some. Anyway, I must be a little mistaken because if that were completely true then it wouldn´t make much sense to have weapons in aikido. Weapons are primarily (though not exclusively) for attack and from what I understand, Aikido is rarely used to attack. Can anyone speak factually on this matter? I think I shall do some Aikido research... I´m still partial to Shotokan Karate though. All the weapons and the moves are designed to maim. Cool....but I would never use it unless it was a last resort. (That last sentence was just in case my sensei is reading this.) lol Wap

There are no women in Freelancer who are the targets of assassination attempts because that would imply that at one time or another, that woman had done something wrong. And women are never wrong. At least, that´s what my wife tells me. If a man is alone in the middle of the forest and no one can hear him, is he still wrong? Nice to see that some people are actually interested in studying martial arts. If you look around, you can find a good dojo that meets your needs AND your budget. I train at a club that charges a flat monthly fee (Approx $50 CDN) which allows you to train at ANY of the 30 associated dojos in the city as often as you want. It´s the best price I´ve ever found. As for one martial art being better than any other, I don´t think anyone can honestly answer that question. It depends on what you want to learn and what your goals are. All martial arts teach self defense, but they all do it in different ways. Does that make any one "better" than another, I don´t think so, IMHO. However, for each individual out there, there is probably one or two specific arts that will appeal to you and work better for you depending on your physique, experience, goals, attitude, etc. Shotokan karate is a very "solid" martial art. There are very few jumping or spinning moves like Tae Kwon Do. It focuses on stance and power. My sensai once said that a shotokan karate-ka trains so that if a fight ever happens, it should be over in one move. Many of the attacks in shotokan are designed to stop an opponent by crippling them. It´s not a pretty art, but it is very powerful. Again, this is one man´s opinion. If you are truly interested, research them all. Kung Fu remains the number 1 most popular martial art in the world, so obviously there are some excellent things to be learned there. As for weapons, in Shotokan we train to use the jo-staff (4 feet), bo-staff (6 feet), nunchaku (nunchuks), sai, bokken (wooden samurai sword), tonfa, kama (mini sickles), and shinai. Weapons training is FUN! Remeber the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles? All of their weapons are used in Shotokan karate. Anyway, if you are seriously interested, I suggest that you start researching out the different styles and clubs in your area. If anyone lives in Calgary, Canada, I can highly recommend a club for you. So far no replies from anyone who actively trains though. There must be some karate-ka or other marial arts students out there! Share your thoughts. I definitely don´t own the market on martial arts knowledge. Although I have done my research... Daniel: Hey, you ever get into fights when you were a kid? Miyagi: Huh - plenty. Daniel: Yeah, but it wasn´t like the problem I have, right? Miyagi: Why? Fighting fighting. Same same. Daniel: Yeah, but you knew karate. Miyagi: Someone always know more. Wap

I spent several hours trying to decide what the ugliest part of my body is. It was a grueling process that involved patience, perserverance and a significant amount of pain. In the end, it was a tie between my pancreas and my lower intestine. You think feet smell....whew..... Wap

I hear you leviathan. Forum search has yet to actually provide anything useful for me. Resign yourself to one of two fates: 1) Spend the rest of your life reading forum threads in the hopes of finding an answer to your questions (although in the case of FL2/expansion info you will find TONS of discussions) 2) Ask your question anyway and get flamed. That just seems to be the way it works around here, unfortunately. I have come to the understanding that you´re not allowed to discuss ANYTHING that has ever been mentioned before in the entire history of Lancers Reactor. I could go on, but I won´t. Wap

I don´t know why, but I always imagined cardamine to be like the spice in Dune. I know there is absolutely no basis for that in the game, but it just always appealed to me. I guess I just like the way the spice is feared and reverred in the novels. Wap

A true leader doesn´t do something because he expects results, or because it´s easy, or even POSSIBLE to do. A true leader does what he does because it´s the RIGHT thing to do. True character is measured by conviction, not results. It comes down to the age-old excuse; "How can only one person possibly have any effect?" If we stop worrying about how effective we will be and focus more on what the right thing to do is, then the results will follow. Don´t worry about results. Forget about the results. Just do the right thing. To give up simply because you don´t think something is possible is the truest form of apathy. Don´t let the situation dictate your actions. Make your actions dictate the situation. Just my 2 cents. Wap

I´m probably lucky if I get in 4 or 5 hours per WEEK (less than a hour a day). If I didn´t have to go to work for 9 hours a day, I´d probably play at least an hour a day. But if I didn´t have to go to work, I´m sure I´d find all kinds of other fun things I´d rather be doing. If I played FL too much, I´d start to get bored with it. Like anything else, it´s best in moderation. Wap

corwin02 - Why? I am having this trouble on my machine, trying to run an Internet persistent server and run a client at the same time. Why does this not work? My pc can handle the load no problem. It´s obviously a problem, I am just curious WHY it´s stil

I only have one computer, and I run a persistent server and my client on the same machine, obviously. I installed the patch because I heard it would make the server more stable. I´m a little confused by your suggestion that I could have installed the patch on the server and NOT on the client. I only have one copy of Freelancer running on my computer. I use FLserver to run the server and FL to run the game. Would it have even been possible to apply the patch ONLY to the server? How would I have done this? You have confused me. Wap

Hi titan xl. Haven´t seen you around here before, are you new? I work for an independant IT security firm. We don´t own this website, but we have an understanding with the people who do. Wap

Not sure I totally understand your dilema here, but I´ll take a stab at it. More systems will be added to your System Nav Map as you discover jump gates and jump holes that lead there. Simply being in the "area" won´t make "close" star systems appear on your map. Most systems only allow access to 2 or 3 other systems, so you pretty much have to fly from system to system, checking out the jump gates and jump holes in order for new systems to appear on your nav map. I don´t have the nav map memorized, and providing details on how to get to some of the border worlds would be a spoiler anyway. Suffice it to say, your best bet for finding all those places is to just keep exploring. I´m sure some of the other lancers here will be able to provide more detailed info on the layout of the nav map and which major systems connect to others. Wap

This one´s easy. Orbital Spa and Cruise for me. 1/2 price vacations, all the luxury food you can eat, room service and an awesome view. You guys can have fun being pirates. I´ll be down by the pool with the ladies in bikinis. Wap

Characters are not transferable between different servers. Similar to Diablo II. So, yes, when you want to jump to a different server you´ll have to start a new character. However, there are several modded servers that start you out with different ships, more/less money, and (I think) a different starting location, so watch for those if you´re looking a bit of variety. One of the nice things about Freelancer is that you can partner up with other players OR go solo OR partner up with NPCs. Partnering up with NPCs is more entertainment than anything else. Just pick a group of ships transporting goods or doing system patrols (Police) and enter formation with them. Go where they go, do what they do. It´s a fun way to explore the major trade routes and occassionally find a jump hole. It can also make you feel like you´re "part of something". Because the MP aspect of the game is so open ended, you´re really only limited by your imagination. If you keep thinking of new things to do and see, you´ll never get bored. And when in doubt, just stop and take a look around at the systems you are flying through. They simply LOOK good. Wap

Just some fun info for those of you interested in Dyson Sphere´s. The Dyson sphere (or Dyson shell) was originally proposed in 1959 by the astronomer Freeman Dyson in "Search for Artificial Stellar Sources of Infrared Radiation" in Science as a way for an advanced civilisation to utilise all of the energy radiated by their sun. The original proposal was actual that of several thousand individual "islands" orbiting one star. It wasn´t until later that the concept was interpreted to be a single shell encasing a star. The idea is based on some very sound scientific research and calculations, although the undertaking of such a project is far beyond the capabilities of our civilization. A similar concept is the Ringworld created by Larry Niven. If you´re interested, you can read more about the Dyson Sphere concept at this site: http://www.nada.kth.se/~asa/dysonFAQ.html#WEB It´s incredible to think that such an idea was first realized almost 45 years ago, and a decade before man even made it to the moon. Anyway, just an FYI for those of you who are interested. Wap

I´m definitely not the youngest FL player, and I seriously doubt I am the oldest either. 28 years old here. Wap

30 seconds?! I find my shields go down only for about 5 or 6 seconds. Is it different for different ships? I never noticed. It seems to always take about 5 seconds. Perhaps I am caught in some temporal flux or something. Can anyone verify this? Wap
