No doubt you already know that this game is "awesome", but here´s my take on the things you are asking about. Mission types: this is one of my biggest gripes about the game. Keep in mind, however, this is a small issue overall, and since it´s my biggest gripe, that means the rest of the game pretty much rocks. Aside from the 13 single player missions which are storyline driven, there are really only 3 types of random missions; kill some ships, kill some guy, kill some thing (base, etc). Sometimes you get a mission where you not only kill a guys ship, but you also have to tractor in his escape pod and bring him back to the base. Other than that, that´s it for the random missions. So far I haven´t seen any mods that change this. In fact, I have been asking around if anyone knows of a way to edit these mission types, but so far I haven´t had any luck. As for playability after completing the single player, I personally feel that the game really STARTS once you finish the 13 missions. I prefer FREELANCING. That is, exploring, doing trade runs, taking missions, making money, mining, pirating, scavenging, escorting (no money involved, but it´s fun to just join formation with some ships and see where it takes you), etc. It isn´t just "leveling up". There is a HUGE universe to explore and you really only see 1/3 of it by the time you finish the 13 SP missions. I think the game is awesome even without the single player. There are tons of mods and a bunch of really talented folks dedicated to making the game even better. If you ever get bored of the game in the box, you will easily find add-ons, new ships, new systems, and complete overhauls of the game that instantly make it that much more fun to play, again and again and again. There has been no news of an expansion or sequel. My guess is that there won´t be an official expansion or sequel. I think Microsoft has given up on Freelancer. I could be wrong, but I´m not getting my hopes up. That being said, I refer you to my previous paragraph. Mods aplenty. The multiplayer community is probably as varied as any other community. Many dedicated servers, many sporadic servers. Lots of great guys to play with, a few ****s who camp and kill. Pretty much what you would expect. I played the multiplayer portion of the game for months before I ever even finished the single player part. Like I said, the openness of the game is what I find most appealing. The 13 missions were cool, but they really got in the way of my Freelancing. I first played the demo and loved it, so I bought the game. And I loved it even more. I highly recommend it. You won´t be dissapointed, but hopefully I´ve given you some helpful information as you make your decision. Or perhaps you already have and you´re happily playing Freelancer as I type. Here´s hoping. Wap

Pretty sure it´s not a resource problem. Here´s my pc specs: 2.4GHz processor 512MB PC 1066 RAM Radeon 9700 video card It must be some other conflict. Please tell me there is a solution for this. It seems ridiculous that this kind of a bug would exist (or rather, STILL exist). Help? Anyone? Wap

I don´t understand why you guys keep asking what the point is. I can clearly see his point. He wants to make a one way jump from one system to another. Why? So that the return trip is more difficult. I can think of a number of reasons this might be handy or fun to include in a mod. One way jumps would be interesting when it comes to planning out a trade route or best path. If it were very easy to get TO a particular system, but very difficult to get back OUT, it could make things very interesting. Broaden your minds. That being said, I have no idea how to do it because I don´t create mods. Wap

Check the spoiler forum if you want to know trade route information. However, I find a large part of the fun of the game is in discovering those trade routes myself. Go to a base that sells diamonds and then review the base prices for the places you have visited. You´ll be able to quickly determine the best known route. As you land on more bases, you´ll get more information on buy/sell prices and be able to determine what the best route is. But again, to provide that information here would be a spoiler, so re-post this in the proper forum if you really want someone to simply tell you what to do in order to make money in the game. Wap

The whole commodity thing has given me another idea. What about a Freelancer Stock Market? Based on the trading of commodities, there could be an opportunity for Freelancers to purchase and sell stock in certain commodities. And not only commodities, but stock in factions aswell, like Miners Guilds and Trade factions. Obviously it would take considerable programming and algorithms to handle such a thing, but it would add a cool element to the FL universe and give one more "career" for budding freelancers to try. Using the fees for trade lane usage, one could buy stock in a particular trade route and then the price of that stock would fluctuate as that route is used more or less. One could do all kinds of things with the economics of this game...banks, loans, betting, stocks, term deposits, etc, etc, etc. We need that source code... Wap

Fluctuating commodity prices would be awesome. I´m pretty sure it was part of the original game design, but got left in the dust, probably due to Microsoft´s "ship it now" policy. I´d also like to see and actually limit to the commodity quantities at planets and bases. That would hugely affect commodity prices. Once a base runs out of H-Fuel, then it´s out of base fuel until someone starts shipping more there. As a base runs out of a particular commodity, the price would start to increase, and vice-versa. Basic supply and demand. And the longer a particular commodity sits at a base without being bought at all, the lower the price gets. Again, it´s one of those things that seems like it would have been dead simple to program into the game, but it´s usually the simple-seeming things that require the most work. It really is too bad Freelancer got rushed out the door when it did. Hey mabye we can convince Microsoft to give us the source code. Maybe if we ask real nice. Say please and promise to be their best friend or something. Wap

As much as it pains me to say it, I´m going to have to agree that there is little to no chance that Freelancer will see any kind of official expansion or sequel. The circumstances surrounding the release of Freelancer seem to be the source of the trouble. As far as I understand it, the original game suffered some major setbacks during its design and in the end a forced deadline prevented many features from getting incorporated into the game. Ultimately what happened was the game was shipped before it was REALLY done. The final product was not what the designers fully envisioned. Also, correct if I´m wrong, but Microsoft was so eager to get the product out the door (basically so they could stop spending money to develop it), the mareketing wasn´t as good as it could have been and although the game saw some decent sales at the start, it pretty much fizzled out, from a business perspective. I think the final verdict from Microsoft is that the original product took too long, wasn´t fully completed and didn´t sell enough to warrent putting the same time and effort into a sequel or expansion. I´m willing to bet that Microsoft will let this sleeping dog lie. Again, I hope I´m wrong, but I´d bet real money on us never seeing anything official for Freelancer ever again. Well, at least not anytime in the next 4 or 5 years. It´s up to the mod community now...UNLESS another company buys the rights from Microsoft and decides to take the francise further. Maybe we should start a petition to another game company and encourage them to buy the rights, produce a sequel and sell a billion copies! Now THERE´S an idea... Wap

Ok, I think there are a few people here who need to lighten up. My post was an attempt to just start up a new thread and MABYE make it a little fun or humorous at the same time. Apparently there are some "die hard" forum fans who have the strictest of rules when it comes to posting. render - "don´t do this again"???? Do what? Post a topic? Try to start a discussion about a possible new aspect of the game? What´s your problem? Please explain exactly what it is you don´t want me to do. Nickless - You say I am "trying too hard". Trying too hard to do what? I wasn´t TRYING to do anything. I was posting a new thread and I thought I´d add a little humor at the same time. You also say "wait until you have something original to post and THEN post it." What the hell do you think I just did? Oh wait, I forgot, there are a bunch of FL "pros" who insist we all perform a thorough search of the archives before using any topic, idea, question, or word that has EVER been used in the forum before. Sorry, but I didn´t feel like running a search with the keywords "mining" and "commodities", and then sifting through the 12 million hits. I really think people need to relax. A forum is a place where people can discuss their thoughts, ideas, questions, etc. Obviously we want people to check out previous threads for the really common questions and such, but let´s be realistic. Here´s my suggestion; for those "veterans" who have already read and re-read ever possible thread topic in Freelancer existance, stop coming to the forum. You make it obvious that there will never be anything new here for you to read, so stop reading and let the rest of us post our thoughts without being worried about getting flamed and slammed. The thread topic was meant to be a joke. My original post was meant to be humorous and at the same time bring up a suggestion/idea for the game. And from the looks of it, most people enjoyed the idea and discussed it. Gee, sounds kinda like a forum to me. Render and Nickless, I can appreciate how annoying it is when the same topic is posted over and over and over. But let´s try to show a LITTLE understanding. Don´t we WANT to increase interest in Freelancer? Don´t we WANT to get a larger fan base? Anyway, no hard feelings, just maybe think a bit before you decide to instantly attack someone. And maybe try to read between the lines and see the sarcasm in the post. Wap

Just teasin´ ya folks. I´ve been playing Freelancer since April as well , but I haven´t put in nearly as much time. Simply because I don´t have it. As for posting on the forum here, that´s 146 posts since April as well which averages to less than 1 post per day. And since most of my posts take about 1 minute to write... Anyway, it´s all in fun. I wish I had more time and like I said before, if I DID have more time, I would probably spend in playing Freelancer. Although I do enjoy spending time with my wife.... Wap

Calgary here. Let´s form a pirate/drug smuggling clan. "Hand over all yer cardamine, ya hoser. Or we´ll take ya out, eh!?" Or maybe we could specialize in beer transport: "Have another Molsen, eh?" Wap

I would LOVE to see this kind of mod possible. I would personally write up hundreds of missions for people to use. It seems so simple in my mind, but my programming experience tells me that usually the simplest tasks require the most thought and ingenuity. I await anxiously.... Wap

Not sure what the laws are in other countries, but my understanding in Canada is that when you purchase software, you are allowed to have one, and only one copy of that software on any given PC at any given time. IE, if you purchased, oh let´s say, Freelancer, and you wanted to, oh I don´t know, lend it to your brother in Iraq, you would be legally responsible to completely remove the copy the exists on your hard drive. If you wanted to play it again, you would have to retrieve the CD from your brother, ensure that he completely removes it from his harddrive, and then reinstall on your hard drive. What´s my point? My point is that even though you say it´s a "legitimate" situation ("I own the game! I just lent it to my brother!), you are still requesting assistance in an illegal activity. If you installed a no-cd patch in order to play the game, this would mean there are now two copies of Freelancer running, one on your PC and one on your brother´s. But you only purchased one copy. Ergo, there should exist no legal situation where a no-cd patch is required. If you lose the game or lend it away, that´s your problem. The rest of real life doesn´t have "no-cd" patches. Could you imagine: "Excuse me Mr. Gas-Station-Attendant, but I lent my wallet to my brother in Iraq and I need to buy some gas for my car here. Since it really is MY car, can I just fill up for free using the no-money feature?" "Excuse me Mr. Locksmith, but I lost my house keys. Clearly, you can see that this is MY house. So could you kindly replace my house keys for free. Thank you." In real life, when you lose something or lend it away, it´s your problem. If you need to replace it, you have to pay for it. My 2 cents. Wap

My 2cents... Cheating in MP is wrong. It gives you an unfair advantage and alters the design of the game. Because it affects other players, it should not be allowed, imho. Cheating in SP is up to each person. Obviously many people think this ruins the game and ends up "cheating yourself". However, I think this is purely objectionable. Each person is going to have a different outlook on cheating. One person may find they enjoy the game much more when they "cheat". This could be because it removes some factors of the game that the player finds a "hinderance" to thier style, while another player will argue that those "hinderances" are what makes the game enjoyable to play in the first place. At any rate, I don´t think any one person can ultimately decide if SP cheating is right or wrong or fun or boring. Each person is going to view it differently. I think the most important thing is that each person enjoys the game. If that means cheating for one person, so be it. At least that person is having fun. While someone else may argue that the "cheater" is robbing themselves of the true game experience, the "cheater" would argue that they are having more fun cheating than playing the game the way the designers intended it. Some cheaters prefer to think of it as "thinking outside the box" or expanding the "limits" of the game. Anyway, I ramble. To sum up: MP cheating is bad. No one player can decide what is fair for everyone, so the rule has to be to stick to the original design. SP cheating is up to the person playing and can be neither right or wrong. A person is allowed to play solitaire any way they want and it´s not up to us to dictate what is fun and what is not for someone else. Yeah. You might notice I never actually included my opinion of SP cheating. Rather, I am trying to show everyone can have a different opinion about it, and everyone can be right in their own...er, right. Ok, that´s enough. Wap

I think the best ship is the "bubble" ship, created out of an old tilt-a-whirl car, in the classic 80´s movie "The Explorers". A close runner up would be the ship from Flight of the Navigator. So cool.... I figured people have beat the subject of "Coolest FL Ship" to a bloody and mangled death, so I thought I would put a new spin on the topic. There are only so many ships in the game. How many times do people have to continue listing the same ones over and over and over and over and over......? Wap

OMG....I can´t believe how much time some of you have spent playing this game. I think I only have about 50 or 60 total hours logged, that includes my SP and a couple of MP characters. I thought I played a lot. What on earth do you guys do with your lives that gives you that much time to play? Especially those of you over 500 hours!! Do you eat? Do you sleep? Do you go outside? (Outside, you know, that place with the big burning ball of fire in the sky). I guess it´s hard to say how much time I might have spent on this game if I simply had more time to play. It is an awesome game and I wish I could play more often. But 40 hours a week are automatically consumed by work, at least another 35 hours consumed by sleep. How do you guys do it?! What about sex?! Do you any of you have sex? I don´t think Freelancer is THAT good....Of course, I´m married, so maybe it´s easier for me to find better things to do with my time/wife. Wap

Thanks, very helpful! Although I have noticed there are some mods to do actually replace a ship in the game. A recent mod I installed, called the Eagle, replaced the patriot light fighter. So I must assume there are similar mods out there that also replace existing ships. If someone adds a new ship to the game, how do I see that that ship is available to buy in the game? Most places have an area with three ships. If a new ship is added and makes it so there are now four ships available, how does that fourth ship show up? Is it only visible in the menu, or will it show up as a graphic in the ship purchase area as well? Wap

Do people actually READ the replies before adding their own? Or do you just read the original post and go "Oh, I know the answer! I´ll post the answer and show how cool I am!!" without actually reading all the other replies. Especially the ones that say "THIS IS A SPOILER, DON´T POST AN ANSWER!" Hello? Wap
