Relaxing the no spoiler rule would be like allowing smoking in the no-smoking sections of resturaunts that already have smoking sections. To be fair, it´s not that people get upset about spoilers. It´s that people get upset about the spoilers being in the wrong place. It´s not a matter of content; it´s a matter of location. There is a place for spoilers. Spoil there. As for the fun in flaming noobs, maybe we could create a flame forum. That could be fun. Wap

Sorry, I didn´t mean to sound so harsh. It just gets annoying especially when the message about posting spoilers is right at the top of the forum index. And in my defense, I had no way of knowing that the subject "The Hispania, dead and forgotten..." would mean the thread had a spoiler in it. Ergo, your suggestion to NOT read the thread in the first place is of little help. At any rate, I understand you´re still learning. Again, I appologize for sounding so harsh. It was just one of those instances where I had virtually no warning and all of a sudden I had read a spoiler (and a pretty cool sounding one too). However, you have peaked my interest in finding the Hispania now... Cheers, Wap

Well, it WOULD have been good to be totally surprised by it, but thanks for completely spoiling it. You should change "Sorry, but I just had to tell someone" to "Sorry, but I just had to ruin it for everyone else who hasn´t found it yet." Way to go. Next time post in the proper forum. I can appreciate your excitement, but you have effectively ruined my chances of accidentally stumbling upon it myself, and thereby eliminated any hope of me experiencing the same thrill you have. Think next time. Grrrr..... Why do people do that?!?! Wap

28, male, Calgary, Alberta, Canada. I just started playing this wonderful game again. I played the hell out of it about a year ago but then I got distracted by BF1942. And now I´m back. I haven´t checked out the forum in ages either, though. I forgot how beautiful the Freelancer universe is. I´m hooked right back in again, which I think says a LOT for the replayability of this game. I´m sure this has been asked and answered a million times, so you can flame me if you want, but is there a possible expansion or sequel in the works? Wap

I totally agree. Raising wild animals in captivity is a senseless and barbaric activity that only serves to line the pockets of the.... Oh wait....<reading thread>.... Oops. Wrong topic. Haha. No seriously, I haven´t actually read the entire thread, just Sapient´s last post. That being said, I cannot offer an opinion one way or the other, because I do not even know what Eve is, or that other game you guys are talking about. But I did want to say that I laughed my ass off at Sapient´s retort. Well done. Espcially the part about going out in public with no pants on... Classic... Anyway, I have no helpful information to offer this thread...so...bye! Those are my thoughts, not yours, I´m WapCaplet[!

Are you guys kidding?!?! The demo sucked and the full version game is even worse!! I mean, all you could do in the demo was fly around and do fun missions and admire the awesome scenery and explore the Liberty system, which was full of cool surprises and interesting places to visit. And you could only play a full two missions of the single player storyline!! And don´t get me started about the full version. What a waste of money. All you can do is explore 40 systems and fly a ton of different ships with hundreds of weapon configurations against a variety of wicked opponents in a story line that kicks ass.... Oh wait a minute....I think I got confused. Freelancer....oh yeah. That game rocked. Bought it, love it, can´t get enough of it. I´m just being stupid. The demo is one of the best I ever played and convinced me to actually pay money for the game, which, I am ashamed to say, is a rare thing for me to do. I play LOTS of computer games. I own very few of them.... Those are my thoughts, not yours, I´m WapCaplet[!

Chicago already has a musical and Academy Award winning Movie named after it. That should be enough... Now, Las Vegas, there´s a city that needs a whole system named after it, with all the hotels for the planet and station names. Awesome... Those are my thoughts, not yours, I´m WapCaplet[!

I´d rename "Freelancer" to "This game owned and copyrighted by WapCaplet". Hey, I can dream, can´t I? Those are my thoughts, not yours, I´m WapCaplet[!

You should hail them just as they are entering the mine field. **Hail** "This is Liberty Rougues 4 dash 5. We´re on route to the....AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! <BOOOOM!!>" <static.....> Those are my thoughts, not yours, I´m WapCaplet[!

He did not get flamed. Just because we post a reply that disagrees with what was said, does not mean it´s a flame. I did not insult him, or use harsh language or demean him in any way. I merely commented on the fact that people seem obsessed with having everything done FOR them in the game. Besides, if you had read the entire thread, you would see that this is purely a discussion about autopilot features and misinformation from other sites. Relax. If you want, I can truly flame you. Those are my thoughts, not yours, I´m WapCaplet[!

I´m beginning to regret having asked the question in the first place... But maybe I´ll get some kind of reward for having such a long thread... Some men´s thread´s are longer than others... Those are my thoughts, not yours, I´m WapCaplet[!

Well, yeah, ok. I went to Lancernews.com and there it was. For a website that claims to be an authority on Freelancer, they sure have their basic information completely screwed up. The fault certainly lies with that website. To set the record straight, the NeuralNet does NOT fly your ship for you. And when you are in a dogfight, you are responsible for controlling your ship in every way. It´s an action space sim. Being able to dog fight is a huge part of the game. The webmaster at lancernews should get his head out of the sand and realize the kind of misinformation they are broadcasting. Those are my thoughts, not yours, I´m WapCaplet[!

Please tell us what fan site that is. URL please. Perhaps this is information that came out prior to the game release. IE, speculation on game mechanics. Be that as it may, you can pretty much disregard that entire description. The NeuralNet does NOT fly your ship for you. The closest approximation would be setting waypoints (or best path) and then selecting GoTo (F2), or selecting a friendly or neutral ship and entering formation with it (F4). Note, formation flight does not follow directly behind the targetted ship. It simply enters your ship into formation, usually beside the leader and slightly behind. However, neither F2 or F4 would be of much use in a dogfight. Unless you´re flying a frieghter in which case you could use F2 to continue to your original destination while using the turrets to fend off your attackers, but this usually ends up making you a sitting duck. And often a dead duck unless your shields and guns are significantly better than your opponents. Anyway, please provide the URL for that fan site. I´m curious to know what the heck that person is talking about (or what they happened to be smoking when they wrote it). Those are my thoughts, not yours, I´m WapCaplet[!

Hmmm, I had always thought that if you started a LAN-only FLserver, then you could join it from the same PC without having to worry about SP missions or anything. But I hadn´t really considered what would happen if you tried to run and connect to the server without having any online connection at all. In my mind, it seems logical that you should be able to start a LAN server and connect to it without any other connections to other PCs or the Internet. Make sure you select LAN-only when starting the server AND when searching for servers in the game. Very important. It should work. I will take a look at the settings tonight and let you know. TwoSheds, It really has nothing to do with how long any of us have been posting here or how new someone is to the forum. There are no "cliques". There is no one here that I regularly communicate with. I respond to all posts in the nature they were written, regardless of who wrote them. I had to respond to your post because of what you said; not because you are new. I rarely pay much attention to how new someone is or not anyway, unless they post spoilers (read the top three sticky posts). You have to realize what you post sounds like. You asked if there was a feature that would fly the ship for you during combat. Do you realize how ridiculous that sounds? And you are not the first. People are continually looking for "features" in the game that will allow them to leave the room while the game plays itself for them. It truly boggles my mind. Autopilot/auto aiming are not features. They are ways to remove the "interactivity" from the game. If games weren´t interactive, no one would play them. Correction, no one COULD play them. Anyway, it has nothing to do with who you are or how new you happen to be. It has everything to do with what you posted. Those are my thoughts, not yours, I´m WapCaplet[!

Let´s not forget that the Windows Operating Systems are a much, much higher priority for Microsoft than the games are. Of course they are going to put more work into the OS´. Just because XP was way better than 98 (debatable), does not mean that MS will put the same effort into an expansion for Freelancer. The user base is COMPLETELY different. All I am saying is that IF (and it´s a big IF) Microsoft decides to release an expansion for Freelancer, it won´t contain a fraction of the features that people on these forums have been hoping for. If they can find a cheap way to pack more of the same into another colorful box and sell it for a 30% profit margin or higher, then they will do exactly that. And no more... Listen to Nog. It sounds like this "server admin" guy is just trying to hack your character account and cheat himself. Do not give him your number. No good can come of it. Those are my thoughts, not yours, I´m WapCaplet[!

There is an .exe file called flserver.exe that gets installed when you install the game. Find this program (should be in the start menu with the rest of the game files) and run it. Give it a name, select options regarding pk-ing, etc. It´s pretty self-explanatory. Then start it up. Voila, you are running your own Freelancer Server. You can even choose if it´s an Internet or LAN server. If you want to play on your own server, just make sure it is running, then start up Freelancer and use Mulitplayer menu to find the server, create a character, and join it. Incidentally, that´s the best way to enjoy the game without worrying about SP and being able to access almost all of the jump gates/holes. Those are my thoughts, not yours, I´m WapCaplet[!

OMG. First I read threads where people want an autopilot that takes them across the whole galaxy without any interaction on their behalf. Now here´s a request for a feature that allows the computer to fly your ship for you, DURING COMBAT!! Next it will be "isn´t there a way to set my guns to auto-aim??" and "how can I program my ship to automatically buy a full cargo hold of the best cargo and automatically fly to the base with the best price and automatically sell it and then automatically re-equip my ship with the best weapons?" Does anyone want to actually PLAY this game?!?! Or are people actually happier when the game plays itself for you?? Those are my thoughts, not yours, I´m WapCaplet[! Edited by - WapCaplet on 16-04-2003 17:57:17
