I had a rather bizarre idea a while back, and while it isn´t exactly original, I thought I´d share it. I´ll probably regret it later, but here goes. Take a Starflier, knock off the two winglets from the upper-rear hull and attach two scaled down Hawk/Falcon/Eagle wings in their place. Drop the upper-wing weapon hardpoints and leave the wingtip ones, giving it 5 guns and perhaps a CD. And while I´m being silly, maybe up the weapon class one to make it optimal 3 and max 4, just for kicks. Oh, and call it: The Chickenhawk.

Just a quick comment. I´ve seen this movie twice and while some of the dialogue sparked a giant-unholy-gigglefest-erupting-into-mad-yodelling-laughter-marathon("Anakin, you´re breaking my heart!" BwaaaahaHAhaHAha.. aaahaha.. HAaa..), I thought it was the best of the prequels. That said, there was one scene in the film that stands out for me as an ´opportunity lost´. The moment after Anakin is fitted with the helmet, everything goes silent and all you can hear is that single breath.. this scene should have been longer. I think it could have been the best moment of the film. Visc

Hello. First -time poster here, and I´m very impressed with the site overall. I realize that this is in almost every respect a dead thread, but I think I have something to add. I encountered the same 8-ship rumor on the Outcast base Cali and that´s pretty much what led me here to the site. I was pretty surprised to find all these posts about this rumor, and after reading them all, I noticed one potential piece of ´evidence´ has been left out of the discussion. I took a long look at the intro video over and over and noticed that in the pre-launch scene that features sleeper ships, 3 are displayed(beginning at 00:01:02 and ending at 00:01:17). This first scene shows 3, and later the second scene at the launch, shows 5 departing(00:02:04 to 00:02:34). I really thought I had something here until I noticed that the scenery(specifically the two beams that stick out at the very top center of the backdrop) was essentially the same in both scenes. For the sake of argument however, both scenes do feature slightly different constructs around the ships shown, so perhaps this can´t be easily dismissed. Another interesting point is the lack of markings on any of the ships while in pre-launch and in flight. In fact, the only ship that displays any identification at all is the Liberty, which makes it all the more mysterious. After replaying the video again a few times I picked up on something that I had overlooked. In the intro, with all the attention on the visuals sound effects and the Narrators voice, you can still hear the ´Mission/Launch Control´ radio operator. The voice is largely drowned out and mixed into the center channel of the audio track, but it *can* be heard, with a little help. It fades in and out and some of the ´words´ are no more than a syllable or two, but one word is fairly clear. Here´s a partial(relevant) transcript taken from 00:02:18 to 00:02:35 of the Official Intro Narrators Voice(foreground voice): ´...In desperation, the Alliance launched five sleeper ships, the hope was, for them to begin again, far from the war and strife that had befallen earth, to start free from the prejudices that had divided us for so long...´ *Second Voice(Launch Controller, background): ´...Three is a GO... Four is a GO... Five (unintelligible)... (unintelligible but with an emphasis on something that sounds like ´aww´ or maybe ´ahh´)... Failure... (two or three more unclear words said)´ I analyzed the audio from both the official and unofficial intros and both were essentially the same during these sequences(Narrators voice chimes in a few seconds later on the Official version). Sooo, 5 sleeper ships launch in sequence, and then the launch controller broadcasts something about a ´failure´. Anyways, listen to the audio if it interests you and judge for yourself. Myself, I think it´s highly suggestive that there were more ships ready to launch and something prevented them from doing so. Sabotage, like the Hispania perhaps, only on the ground? Interesting. Now, normally I don´t much like to cheat directly, and I prefer to just unlock all the jumpgates and build my MP dueling Eagle for SP missions 2-13 by trading and missions. That said, I couldn´t resist using IONCROSS´ editor to put an Adv. Champion Shield on that fighter, and Nomad Energy Blasters on my Level 9 and torpedo hardpoints. 7 Nomad blasters... w00t Nice editor btw. Back to Freelancer after a month of being gone... with Elite going down, and all these interesting-sounding mods, you can expect me on Proxima in short order.

I´ve decided to move on and take this as a lesson. I have started from scratch on the Argonus Server, where I had no character anyway, with a new Account ID. This time I will have a hard copy or two in case this happens again. Lesson learned. If Elite ever opens up to account creation again I may start a new character, or I may not. Who knows? Thanks to all of you for your help, and I hope this never happens to any of you.

Heh. I have a surge protector, maybe that´s why my hardware wasn´t permanently damaged. I´m already shopping for a UPS. Maybe I should swear vengeance on squirrelkind and create a Death to Squirrels faction (DTS)... Nah...that squirrel has already paid the price. Plus there aren´t any squirrels in Sirius. So hunting them would be stupid. Uhhhh...yeah. I could hunt Gaians, though... As soon as Elite comes back up and allows account creation I´m restarting from scratch... should be fun. Don´t the Kraken IIs have a projectile speed of 700? I would think it would mess up your targeting cursor if you tried to match it with a Tizona or a Class 10. Edited by - KnightLight on 30-06-2003 06:54:09

I´m actually almost as disillusioned with Rippers as I am with Sunslayers. They do massive damage, sure, but the price tag per shot is a bit ridiculous. I´m thinking of going back to the Cutter mine myself. (next HM down, 1/3 price per shot)

Eagle. Sabre would be my second choice, but still, Eagle. Drake and Legionnaire are cool too, simply because they are so difficult to hit. I´ve flown all three Class 10s, and the Eagle is the only one whose maneuverability doesn´t make my teeth grind in frustration. Sabre is a bit sluggish and the Titan turns like a friggin´ school bus.

Hope so... and please enable account creation? Since my account is gone forever I´d at least like a chance to start over...

If I had the time (which I don´t) I would buy every ship, find a reference point in space, like a planet, and use a stopwatch to count how long it took to make 5 complete rotations. Then I could figure out the maneuverability of each ship in degrees per second, which is a stat they should have included in the game. Just going by weapons and armor ratings is a poor way to judge the effectiveness of a ship... for instance, take the equally armed and beter armored Titan against an Eagle one-on-one, and you will likely die unless you are a far superior pilot. From the in-game descriptions, however, the Titan seems superior. If someone HAD the time to test these all out and post the list of turn rates, they could likely reduce these repeated "best ship" postings... and win the people´s ovation and fame forever...
