"Schoolwork takes precedence"?!? What kind of "l337" gamer are you?! I´d buy F.E.A.R myself, but my PC isn´t really up to the challenge as the game is reputed be a "resource hog". Maybe I´ll try Quake 4 which, coincidently, was released yesterday... Meh, maybe. Edited by - esquilax on 10/19/2005 12:47:04 AM

Steve - Its supply and demand. DDR400 is cheap, but anything older than that is twice the price because it is allegedly "rarer". Eg. I can pick up some a 512MB DIMM of Kingston DDR333 for $95 AUD, but a 512MB DIMM of Kingston DDR400 is only $55 AUD or so.

Indy - I´ll have you know fella me lad, that Typhon runs HL2 and Doom3 at 1280x960 with good speed at full detail and high detail respectively. Although he is old, I have tweaked the hell out of Typhon , and have overclocked my graphics card. The only problem is my lack of RAM (only 512M which is a bottleneck, but I´m not paying around $100 for another 512MB of DDR-333! Damn cheap MSY RAM that is made up of Samsung chips on a generic PCB *grumble*. ff - Bah, there aren´t enough slots for every spell, and you have to keep swapping items in and out. It becomes annoying after a while.

I just hope that my PC will run it well, assuming that the issues that I have mentioned before are resolved, and I end up buying it of course . I also found it interesting to note that the controls are being "simplified" in order to allow the ickle Xbox360 gamers to play the game. Compared to the abysmal controls present in X2 this could be a good thing, but I hope that they do not *oversimplify*. "Fable" for example, what the hell´s up with that damn "hold down the ´Control´ key and click to use magic" system? They REALLY should have created separate keys for that, but I digress .

Spyware may be everywhere Chet, but it doesn´t mean that I have to like it, or patronise the products that use it . As for there being no privacy in modern times... that´s another issue .

*Considers purchase* Hmmm... Well, tell me what the controls are like when you get the game Chips, because if they are as bad as X2... Oh, and and I would like to see a review of X3 as well. If you don´t post one... *Raises paw*

Glitch - "Chaos Theory" has "StarForce" too?! Bloody hell, things are far worse than I feared *shakes head in disgust*. Well I´m glad that I didn´t pick up the DVD edition of SC3 then .

So the Aus. version will not have StarForce? Well that´s good news. I´m not going to make the same mistake twice (ie. purchasing HL2 without knowing about that parasite known as "Steam&quot .

I tend to agree with Mike. Some companies go TOO far with copy protection, and programs that install themselves without informing the user prior to the game´s purchase , ie. by stating the use of such tools on the box, are some of the worst. I do not want to have to purchase a game, take it home, reimage my PC, install the game, read the EULA, see that the game uses spyware, and then uninstall the game and try to return it for a full refund. As for Valve and "Steam" Argh... you should know how I feel about them now . Chips - Are you saying that X3 will use "StarForce copyright protection"? *Spits* There´s no way in hell I´m buying THAT game then. Hmm. On second thought, maybe I´ll buy it when the price drops to $40 or less and, more importantly, people develop cracks to disable StarForce . Indy - Not me. I´m not going to waste my time by asserting the benefits of price reductions and customised cd-checking utilities .

Zaz - I reimage regularly, but yes I use Steam when I wish to play HL2. I do not like it though, and I always prefer to purify my PC by imaging after I have finished playing it . Chips - But what about that evil software known as "StarForce"? You know, that copy protection software that installs without a user´s consent? THAT is something that I feel is perfectly ethical to circumvent... if I were silly enough to buy a gme that used it of course .

Hey, it doesn´t bother me in the slightest. I just prefer to poke fun at you two and your one-track minds . Oh, and Grom: where´s me washboard? I can´t find it .

That "Nintendogs" game (or whatever it is) reminds me of those "Tamagochis", or whatever the hell they were called. I hated those damn things. People kept trying to sell them to me (second-hand usually), and then all of the cheap knock-offs came out which only made things worse.

Classics Grom . Taw - I hate those damn boot-sector viruses, especially when they end up deleting the boot-sector. Luckily I have never had one .

ICANN don´t exactly "control" the internet, but I guess that they are the closest thing to its administrators. Aside from arguing about registering ".xxx" as a domain and whether or not to move to IPv6, I am not certain that they actually do anything .

Are you referring to playing HL2 without having to be online (ie. "Offline" mode) Zaz, or something else? The only other method that I can recall is the use of the cracked versions of Steam that are around.

*Reads Indy´s comment about Wolfy* Burn! Grom - The "Bouncing Ball" virus was a program that, once it infected a computer, would display a "ball" which "bounced" off the sides of the screen. It was quite amusing actually . And then there were classics like the "Stoned" virus. Ah, the good old days...
