Best... Space Sim... Ever

In a lot of ways, Starlancer is my favorite space sim as well (never got the chance to play Freespace 2) but I have to admit that the in flight cutscenes nearly killed the game for me. What actually killed the game for me were all the scripting errors I encountered that would force me to replay a number of missions. But the setting and gameplay were just awesome. It´s my favorite space sim setting by far, and the fast dogfighting with an almost WW2 feel was a blast.

FL Rebalance 3.40 Comments, Bug reports and suggestions

Haven´t really been following the disagreement here, but I have to say for my personal tastes, I´d rather have the rebalance mod without all the Star Trek, Wars, or other ships taken from established stories. I know the option is there to just not use them, but it kind of ruins the suspension of disbelief for me.

Who´s around the longest and still playing FL

I sometimes load it up, and I got it right when it came out (the demo impressed me quite a bit, I was a little nervous before that). I haven´t fully explored all the areas yet, but then again, I barely play it. Was curious what people who play it consistently spend their time doing? Mods? Trading? What keeps you going? Tried multiplayer with some friends but it didn´t click for some reason.

1776 Vote On German As Official Language of the USA = An Urban Legend

President John Kennedy wrote about that vote in his book, Profiles In Courage, which won the Pulitzer I think. In his book, he makes it sound like the actual decision to speak German was decided by one vote. The whole book details congressional votes decided by one vote, the goes into the stories of the people who cast the deciding vote. Another talked about in that book was the impeachment of Andrew Johnson. Also, I´m not sure the majority of the population was Anglo-Saxon. Pennsylvania was mo...

Need help with setting up a multiplayer game..

Starlancer, and I think other Direct X 7 games, are a real pain the the butt when it comes to firewalls. Are either of you behind a firewall? Are either of you connected to a router? With my old router, I would actually have to disconnect the router and directly connect my machine to the internet to get the hosting to work. Now I have a router with a DMZ option, and that has made it much easier. Not sure if this helps though.

First Cinema Experience

the first film I can remember seeing in the theater was Empire Strikes Back. The first film I can ever remember seeing was before that, on TV, an old flick called The Sullivan Brothers.

Just got Starlancer....bit of a problem

Not exactly sure what to tell you but I ran Starlancer in WinXP without problems once I turned off 3d sound. Not sure if that will help, but see if you can get to some menu to shut off 3d sound effects. I guess you can also try the compatibility settings that come with win XP to set it to win 98 mode but I never had to do that. Out of curiosity, why do you need disks to get 5.1 sound working? Won´t the drivers that can be downloaded from creative´s web site work? I´ve never tried 5.1 sound bu...

X2 The Threat (yes, another thread, don´t auto lock!)

Grom, In older X games, NPCs would fly them and if you wanted to control another ship you could manually spacewalk over to it and take control. In X2, they have a series of windows that can give you a variety of viewpoints, including from other ships you own. I think you can control them remotely through these view windows but I haven´t tried yet (I thought I read that in the manual). The interface is definitely a lot of key pressing. Freelancer got me a little spoiled with its stellar interfac...

*FIX* Text Problems

I have the really huge text problem and a Radeon 9500 Pro. I don´t see the 9500 Pro under the list in the ATI section and I don´t see the line I´m supposed to delete there either. I had this problem with the Cat 3.8 and 3.9 drivers (don´t remember the 3.7). Thanks.

Font Error in Freelancer -- Need Help

Exact same problem here. Using Win XP, Direct X 9.0b, Radeon 9500 Pro with Cat 3.8 and 3.9 drivers (both have the same problem). Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

FL vs X2 the threat comparable?

Well, for what it´s worth, I´m glad Freelancer and X are different. Freelancer was really great to jump in, get into some great dogfights (especially out in ice fields and the like). And exploration was extremely fun. I also really liked the mouse control on Freelancer, and lastly... X2 has just gone gold and should be out in the US in two weeks. A playable demo should be available soon.

Anyone Play Any Good Games Lately?

I´ve been enjoying Temple of Elemental Evil if you like RPGs. Also, there are some space sims coming out in the next few months if you´re looking for that.

Anyone heard of X2 The Threat?

I heard that the final game code is more optimized than the non-playable demo. There is supposed to be a playable demo released around the time the game hits the streets. I´d use that to make any final decisions.

Anyone heard of X2 The Threat?

I don´t mind the discussion of another game on this site if it introduces space sim fans to another possibility (we can´t play Freelancer forever). But that being said, X2 has some really good points and bad points going for it. It´s on my must buy list because I enjoyed its previous versions so much. It has a fantastic trading model and fantastic graphics. But you can´t land on planets, it wouldn´t surprise me if the story comes across as weak, and the graphics are bringing even top end sy...

Alternatives to Freelancer

You can buy the German copy of X-TEnsion and download a 250+ MB English patch. Of course the next title in that franchise is scheduled to come out in October, so it might be worth waiting for that.

Does anyone knows when will mocrosoft launch a expansion for the game?

I think the question could be answered best with sales figures. My understanding is that Freelancer didn´t exactly set records (it might have been the #1 seller for 1 week and then faded pretty fast). Anyone have any stats?

Freelancer Vs Privateer

I liked Privateer a lot more than Freelancer (I still liked Freelancer, don´t get me wrong...). I was also disappointed to see most of the wealth of features from a 10+ year old game that shipped on 3.5" disks not make it into Freelancer with its 5+ years of development time (i´ve stated this feeling in other threads as well).
