Well, I uninstalled my sound driver, and disabled the sound card in bios. Still no MP lovin´. I´m fairly stumped at this point, I´ve tried everything I can think of. I´ve updated my video, sound and nic drivers, tried it at every level of hardware acceleration it´ll work at, reinstalled the game several times, re-extracted remoteserver.dll from the cabs on the CD a time or two, even had a friend make a .par file so I could ensure all the files in the EXE folder weren´t corrupted, and so on. In my professional opinion, ****´s broke. Any chance we can prod the devs into looking into this? I haven´t been able to find anything resembling an ´official´ forum at Microsoft´s site (and digitalanvil.com now redirects to microsoft.com/games) or I´d post it there. I really want to play this MP, and it´s pissing me off that I can´t. HELP!

You guys are all also on XP and 1 on Win2k. I have a SB Live and GF card on Win 98 with no issues. Everyone have updated OS patches? Can you try Win98 mode instead?

I have Win2k sp3 with all the latest updates (except for one security update for IE6 that won´t download from windowsupdate.microsoft.com, for some reason). I wasn´t fully up to date when I started having this problem. Win98 mode? Never heard of a win98 mode, but I´m willing to try anything short of formatting. How do I do it?

Hmm, random idea. Everybody here have DX9? Anybody tried with other versions of DX? I read somewhere here that you had to have DX9 to play MP, so I dunno if that´s even possible to test. We need to get some Dev lovin´ here.

Anyone using a no-CD crack? That could kill it (the error is in the file that gets patched)

Alright...I´m having this problem too. Running a GF2 MX With SB Live! Platinum. I used to have a Radeon 9700 Pro in this box, and it happened also, so I believe the problem is the SB Live! Under Windows 98, multiplayer works. Under Windows 2000 or XP, it doesn´t. I´m suspecting there´s some issue in the sound system. Funny thing...setting FL to Win98 compatibility in WinXP hangs the game, not crashes...gfx goes, sound stays. I´ve tried with with the No-CD crack, and nothing doing...same crash under normal mode, same hang under Win98 mode. I´ve submitted a ticket to MS...let´s see if it gets answered. I also added a link to this forum topic. Edited by - dukrous on 13-03-2003 04:54:48

Okey this might be just a wiled guess or somthing, *I am also having this problem* Everyone has WinXP SP1 or Win2k SP3, both are under the same NT backbone so I will guess that some things the SP will fix will be the same stuff for both 2k and xp. So could it possibly be the SP????? maybe its blocking or changed somthing the game needs. This is just an idea.

Well, I´m pretty sure it´s not the SB, since I completely disabled mine in bios and it still didn´t work. It would seem to be something with 2k/XP, but it´s obviously not happening to everyone running 2k/XP or this thread would be 30 pages long now. Here´s what I know.. I know it works under XP with all the latest updates and drivers with a Geforce Ti4200/SB Awe64, and with a Radeon/SB Live. I´ve had 2k SP3 installed long before I got Freelancer, but it´s possible that it could be the problem. Anyone here using 2kSP3, a Geforce card, and a SB card that it works for? I´m gonna dig around in the manual and figure out how to use 98 compat mode and see if that works. I´m desperate. :/ I pretty much got this game to play multiplayer (though the SP was great), and it sucks hearing about the exploits of my friends and not being able to join in. At this point, I´m willing to try even the most crackpot ideas anyone can come up with, but I´d really rather avoid formatting and reloading. I just don´t have room to back up what I need. Edit: As for the DSL router question, I haven´t tried it directly connected to my DSL modem, but I don´t see how that would affect it. I´m connected to the DSL modem via a hub, and I´m not using NAT or ICS or even IP Masquerading of any sort. I have a real-world IP, and even disabling anything resembling firewall/filtering rules doesn´t affect it. Edited by - polaris66 on 13-03-2003 22:54:40

Okey everyone of you who has been having problems with the Freelancer LAN/Internet Crash BUG..... For those who crash when trying to join a LAN/Internet game, we have finaly found a way to fix this problem. Howerver, many of you will not like this fix . After about 8 hours of taring in and out hardwear and beating windows to death we found that one of windows newer patchs is screwing up some of us. What we did was reinstall windows without patching any thing. This fixed it, for those who dont want to do this you can use the windows restore and try and back up till it works. Im sure some day there will be a patch for this but it you really want to play online this is a quick fix. Hope this will help you all out....
