StarLancer graphical problems with aTI Radeon HD 4850

I've already mentioned my problem in my introduction topic, but I think this board is more appropriate to "report" this glitch.

So, it's like this: StarLancer looks like 16-bit other than 32. There's no bloom, almost no lightening effects (the ships are full bright!), the nebulas are POLYGONS, and overall, the game looks ugly.

Look, I'm dying to make a StarLancer playthrough, every little bit of help is appreciated.

I had the same bug on my nvidia gforce 9800 gt
try to change the resolution to a higher value by using this:

open your starlancer.ini with it, click on "custom" and do: 1680 x 1280 (NOT 1680 x 1050 or other resolution, or the game will crash.)

Hello, thanks for your response.

I've tried using it before, it won't do anything. It'll just change back to 1024x768. I've tried to run as admin but it couldn't run that way. It says that COMDLG32.OCX or one of it's dependecies is missing.

I also can't make it windowed. I try to change the .ini file for the value windowed=0 to be windowed=1, but it runs fullscreen. It looks like Lancer.exe just changes the .ini file on execution!

I forgot to mention I have Windows 7, and I HAVE to run Lancer.exe on Administrator mode or else it will crash after leaving/winning/losing a mission... xD

I am running WinXP and using a GeForce 8800GT and I have the very same graphical issue. I can however successfully use the ResEdit thing to increase the resolution to 1280x1024. If you go into the graphics option in the game AFTER you have used the ResEdit then it will revert back to whichever you choose of the three options in there so just stay away from that...so start the game, go to the graphics options and choose your texture and details levels, exit the game, use ResEdit, restart the game and never go back to the graphics option screen.

I have searched high and low on the internet and I can find NOTHING to solve the problem of the horribly ugly polygonal nebulas. They are a game breaker. I thought at first that it was because of my LCD monitor, as my older PC with a big 'ol 20 inch Trinitron screen displays the nebulae just fine. I want to be able to play this on my main PC and this is very frustrating. Turning down the brightness doesn't help. Is there maybe a way to turn the nebula off in the .ini file? I'm not good with that sort of thing.

Any help would be splendid! Glad to see this site is still here.

Easy to fix. I had the same problem on my 5970 when I used Starlancer with Windows 7 and the latest Catalyst Drivers (11.4)
Go to Catalyst Control Center > 3D Options > Gaming
- At AA and AF put 'Use application settings'

Then go to the .exe of Starlancer and in Properties select the operating system running mode 'Windows NT'.
Enter and enjoy!
