Here is what the beginning of the SHIPSTATS.BIN file should look like when you open the file in your hex editor (I use Hex Workshop www.bpsoft.com). The first value (highlighted in red) that can be successfully changed is the top speed of the ship (in this case 320 decimal or A043 hex, 32 bit floating intel ordered byte). Weasel, Good work with the shipstat.bin. If one thing keeps a community(and game) alive it is editing(even though Xwing Alliance has a fairly obsolete flight engine, although I still think it´s fun, the editing community keeps pumping out new ships and missions for it). I, myself, have started poking around in the misslestats with trusty ol´ hex workshop , I´ll post my results when I get it all finished. I just read through the ship editing thread and think it would be great if the upcomeing editor had a ship-editing capability. If it doesn´t, we will need to extract a common 3d format(such as dxf.,3ds,etc.) from the .SHP format that is used, and figure out where additional info such as hard points is stored; no small task. Anyway, if I get the time, I´ll try to write a basic tutorial on Hex editing, although you´ll probably find plenty on the internet(and go get Hex Workshop). Don´t get me wrong, Xwing Alliance is probably my favorite game. I just meant that compared to newer games like SL and alliegence, the graphics capabilities are limited, especially the explosions. Also the physics model is pretty unrealistic, unlike alliegence´s physics. But it is still very fun and easy to modify.

That´s great news! Learning this stuff already is a sure sign this game will go far in the editing community. I personally would love to see a section dedicated to editing. True, there´s not much work done yet, but i don´t think it´s gonna take much longer until fans begin to seriously modify SL: mission editor is coming out (hopefully soon) and regardless of what it can/cannot do, file formats are already being examined by fans. I´m staring to put together a table for the shipstats, gunstats, and missles stats. right now I´m doing manual inputs into spread sheet.. I might write a program do that automatically later.. so far I´ve identified most of the values in shipstats.bin for each ships. but haven´t started on missiles and guns yet..

Stalker, Blazer, Iron Tooth, Death Claw, Brute, Hell Fire. Expansion? Unfinished data? Maybe those confusing number are reserved for expansion? Or internal use such as reference to graphics? I tried using Hex Workshop to edit a saved mission file. I changed an offset as instructed and saved the file, but when I opened the saved mission the changes (accxess to all ships) was not there. What could have happened. I would like to continue with hex editing
