Du7andal: Well, the problem is a combination of things: The first is, as you suspected, the ships. In Freelancer, the ships have detachable sections. The detachable section will take the hits first, and detach. Our ships are a single piece. The only detachable sections are the weapons and equipment. So... They detach! (You can tractor them in, repair them, and reattach them.) The second part is the AI. No matter what the AI is set at, it always acts the same. The only things that can be changed are it´s accuracy, and rate of fire. In v2.3 and v2.4, I had the AI set for maximum accuracy, and a 1 second delay between shots. You´d think that a 1 second delay would be tough enough, but with a ship max´d out, it was way to easy. I tried a 0.75 second delay between shots, which wasn´t bad for anything with a level 5 shield, or below. Above that, it was only challenging when you encountered a dozen or so opponents at once. (A very rare occurrance.) With a 0.6 second delay, all but level 7 shields were challenging. At a 0.5 second delay, level 7 shields started to be challenging. (I must note, that level 1 shields were becoming dangerous, but still usable in trade and salvage runs.) Then I went to 0.25 seconds, and while level 7 shields were highly challenged, any shield below level 4 was suicidal. (even on simple trade runs from Manhattan to Pittsburg) I tried 0.3, 0.35, 0.4, and 0.45 seconds, but the Taurus´ level 1 shields were often stripped off in a single volley. At 0.5, as long as you aren´t just sitting still, level 1 shields can even survive the first couple of missions. Which, by that time, you should have the money to upgrade, or have salvaged a Level 3 shield from the Order, or the Liberty Rogues. (Which will last until Mission 3 or 4.) Since the game begins Open-Ended, the odds are that people will max out their ship before starting the storyline. So, the AI needs to be challenging for them before, and during the story. AND!!! For those who wish to jump straight into the story, without max´ing their ship out first... It´s got to be survivable, but challenging. And that´s where the third part comes in: The Scripting! Freelancer has every battle, random or story, very well scripted. And they are based on Freelancer´s "rank" system. The lower your rank, the easier the script is. The higher your rank, the harder the script is. And in some missions, the script is designed to destroy you at all costs! THOSE are the missions where you lose everything in a single blast! Like the mission when you leave Benford! (I´ve had to reload that sucker 5-6 times to get through it!) Of the 3 parts, I only have control over the AI. The ships and scripting are part of FL´s main program. And I´ve explained why the AI is set up as it is. If you want to use a different AI... You can: 1) Delete DataMissionsPilots_Story.ini in the MOD´s directory, and it´ll default to FL´s AI. (Which is childsplay for even level 3 or 4 shields.) 2) Copy DataMissionsPilots_Story.ini from v2.3, or v2.4 into the MOD´s directory for an easier AI. 3) Download my AI mods, and load them after loading this mod. (Be Warned-the Deathwish AI is set at 0 seconds between shots!!!) Watch your 6! Edited by - warzog on 5/8/2004 11:53:44 PM

lvxoccvlta: Most of your wishlist is in the "To Do" list. As you may have noticed, v2.3 and v2.4 were full of bugs. So far, v2.5 is looking pretty good. We´ve been progressing quite well, now that we´ve gone beta. As long as we don´t encounter to many bugs along the way... We´ll add more things with each release. However... More weapons, commodities, anomolies, etcetera are "Gravy." We need to get the "Meat and Potatoes" on the plate first. So far, we´ve got some ships, weapons, and commodities in. We need the Gemin Sector next!!! And this time, I´m going to add 1 system at a time, and hopefully catch the bugs as they´re created. As far as I´m concerned, the Gemini Sector is the most important part of the mod. I´m only hoping that it´s not beyond my skills. Watch your 6!

Warzog: Thanks for that background on the AI and why all guns and equip get same damage: it´ s all one section of a ship. Plot bug: I still don´t remember the mission number, but when you join formation with Walker´s cruiser (or not, instead just going straight to next waypoint) to go to Zone 21 and to the Alaska Jumpgate, right at the entrace to the Zone 21 minefield (the safe side) Walker and the other cruisers and ships stop in place and my next waypoint is right into Manhattan´s sun! So I decided to continue to the Alaska Jumpgate and ignore this, Juni and King followed me but Walker and all the other Order ships stayed at the edge of the minefield. Things continued realtively in a normal fashion and we engaged Navy ships guarding the gate. Juni, King, and I killed all the ships (and weapons platforms) off, but my mission objectives still said &quot;Destroy all defending ships&quot;. Juni and King floated in place, Walker with the rest of the Order still sat at the edge of Zone 21, and I couldn´t dock with the Jumpgate. I was stuck. So I flew into the sun <img src=smilies/icon_smile_tongue.gif width=15 height=15 border=0 align=middle> I was flying a Dagger. (EDIT: it was the Banshee) Can you fix this? Or will it not matter when Gemini comes out? Thanks. <img src=smilies/icon_smile.gif width=15 height=15 border=0 align=middle> ----------------------------------------------------------- &quot; The worst player has guns, and grenades, and vehicles, and all manner of damaging tools. black_phoenix: I haven´t had any serious bugs to fix... I´ve redone the commodities... Just started on a new version of Gemini. Nothing worthy of a new release right now. If I get some new ships, or get Gemini working, then I´ll release a new one. Du7andal: If you´re flying a Dagger, you´re not running v2.5. (The Morningstar replaces the Dagger in v2.5) The Dagger was in v2.3 and v2.4, the ones with all of the bugs. (And that is the Mission 11 bug from v2.3) Watch your 6! Wow, I was stupid. <img src=smilies/icon_smile_sad.gif width=15 height=15 border=0 align=middle> <b> I am running v2.5 </b> , but the ship I am flying is the BANSHEE!! I got it confused with the Dagger because they both have the names of original FL light fighters. <img src=smilies/icon_smile_tongue.gif width=15 height=15 border=0 align=middle> So, the bug still stands. Should it have been fixed? <img src=smilies/icon_smile_wink.gif width=15 height=15 border=0 align=middle> ----------------------------------------------------------- &quot; The worst player has guns, and grenades, and vehicles, and all manner of damaging tools. Du7andal: Yeah, it´s been fixed!!! Check in your FreelancerDataMissionsM11 folder. If you´ve got 2 copies of M11.ini... Like M11.ini, and M11.ini.flmmbak, then there´s the problem. If not, check to see if there´s an M11.ini in the mod´s folder... (There shouldn´t be one.) You may need to uninstall, reboot, and reinstall Freelancer. Hi all. Couple things I´ve noticed playing the mod. 1) Picked up the Gladius. Looks good, but the starboard (right) wingtip laser is invisible from the top hemisphere of the craft. Once you move the camera to the ventral side the laser appears. No effect to the game itself, just a minor eyesore. 2) I think this might be a potentially problematic exploit. The ships with triple after burn have an enormous advantage on smuggling and escape. If the pilot engages afterburn, then toggles auto-slide (default z key) they can maintain close to max velocity with only minimal bursts from the after burner, due to a fairly slow velocity bleed. If you get comfortable enough with zipping around at 800+ kps (super suicide afterburners installed on a gladius), you can actually control the ship well enough with controlled bursts to zip through the densest asteroid fields. I wouldn´t try that without level 7 shields though <img src=smilies/icon_smile.gif width=15 height=15 border=0 align=middle>. I think the leech missile may have just become obsolete. Also handy in big number furballs. Maybe a faster deceleration in autoslide could balance it out, I don´t know.

Sabre29: All of your points are quite valid. Players wanted a ship that could fly faster than anything currently in FL. And could fly at close to Wing Commander/Privateer speeds. The Gladius is one of many that can. Players also expressed a hatred of the Cruise Disruptors, which the Leech Missile is. The Leech Missile is primarily to catch those ships who attack you, and then retreat when they´ve taken to much damage. The problem with the gun is a Hardpoint issue, and is currently a very low priority on the &quot; To Do&quot; list. We realize that many of these things can be annoying, but they add a dimension that would be equally annoying if left out. Watch your 6!
