Lefty, a joystick is the way to go, its easy to controll the fighter with a joystick, I tryed Keyboard but it sucked. I´d go with a Microsoft Sidewinder Persion Pro, because they´re cheap now, I have both a MS Sidewinder P-Pro and a MS Sidewinder Persion 2

Lefty, different people have different preferences. So, try the keyboard first, and if you like it then use the keyboard, if you dont like it, then go shell out 100 bucks for a joystick. Its all a matter of preference, there is no joystick is better or keyboard is better. --------------------- If I wanted smoke blown up my ass, I´d be at home with a pack of cigarettes and a short length of hose.

Very True EB! but you got to admit Joystick gives you a better feeling, right?... Joysticks are better for controlling a object in 3D.... Jet fighters have Joysticks not keyboards =)

Keyboards are crap for Simulators. They have one speed for turning and rotating and the other stuff. With a joystick you can control the turn rate and you have more then 1 possible speeds for the turn rate.

I would agree with that to a point.... KEyboards in Simulators, where gravity is a factor (Falcon 4.0, Longbow 2, etc) will get you killed faster than you can hit the eject button. On the other hand, in zero gravity "fantasy" space simulators, where turning isn´t the same, a keyboard often can work quite well, sometimes even better than some joysticks. If you can afford the high end FLIGHT sticks like a Saitek X-10 or CH, or Thrustmaster, those obviously will give you the most precision. But don´t sell the keyboard short for space sims. Either route you take, keyboard or joystick, it all comes down to how much practice you have with the device and what your comfortable with. A good way to really judge would be to play a game your very good at for lengths of time with keyboard, and joystick. You may surprise yourself with which device you use (and that may change with the game you play too)

I´d agree to some extent but it takes a lot of practice to get your aim right with a keyboard. Even with Elite, I used to use keyboard for most major moves but the mouse for precision aiming. It´s strange that Elite was the only game where joystick control was something I just couldn´t get on with. It´s up to the individual what controller they prefer. There is no controller that is perfect for everyone, we even have preferences over what Joystick is better for each of us. -- If I missile throw a Havoc at ya.
