If I´m not mistaken I counted three new ships, with one not being so new.The showed the Mercenary Elite & another strange looking fighter plus there was a new capital ship & by the indications of the color looks to be either a Bretonian freighter or Destroyer due to the sheer size.

ACK! This is great. They´re kind of short, but still very great. I like how combat looks. I havn´t gotten an adrenaline rush while playing a flight sim in years, and it looks like I´ll actually have fun playing this! Also, he said DirectX 8 API! That is great news. By the way, I believe these videos are actually segments of some movie that Microsoft showed at E3 this year, so in a way, this is our E3 trailer, just in two parts <img src=´http://tachyon15.homestead.com/files/tlrsig.gif ´>

Yeah Tach !, that´s what I´ve been thinking all along I´m just hoping that the magazines show the whole thing instead of just parts unless it´s REALLY big in file size then it would be understandable.

I´ve never been so overwhelmed by what I just saw. Awesome, just incredibly awesome. The smoke from an explosion, the feel of the flight, the manuervers of the ships, the turning of the planets, just unbelievably imersive.

Like EB said, those laser sound effects need to be beefed up considerably. This is the same complaint I´ve had with all earlier videos, so I´m a little worried that this is their actual sound effect, and not simply a placeholder (I mean, how difficult would it be to scrape up a new one?). Otherwise, Freelancer is going to be better than tantric sex....

My tongue hit the floor watching both movies. I think the sound effects are just lost in the translation to wmv. I can´t imagine this many years of work and crappy sound. If the combat is like this in the whole game, don´t expect to hear from me for weeks after release, I´ll be playing the game!!!! <img src=´http://www.ukobservers.net/cwm/otn/blobs/0000007.gif ´>

I don´t know what type of sound card / speaker system you got EB, but on my systems Audigy/5.1 Dolby´s those lasers sound pretty damn good. I cranked it up of course, and they was rockin the walls. Especially the ones coming from behind me!

Actually, early 2003 is like... Six to eight months away, but yeah, they have quite enough time to replace them. I actually kind of like the placeholders, myself. Freelancer is very high-tech, being so far into the future, far farther (eh) than any space sim (including WC which was in the 2600´s) I´ve seen/played, and stuff tends to get quieter as they get more advanced. In fact, we shouldn´t even be able to hear them period But I believe they are placeholders.

Everyone seems to be talking about the laser effects but what about the voice acting ,like when he gets shot at or when he destroys a ship there even seems to be a voice for everything.

I don´t know, maybe. Every time you got a kill in real life, you would be estatic, but I imagine it is a feature you could turn off if it is indeed after every kill. Remember, we´ve seen just one little part of the game, and only a few seconds of each piece at that.

Star Killer, actually, yea, I´d like to have some sort of voice interaction. Maybe not exactly as your example, but that certainly was one of the things that made Privateer, and P II to be honest, somewhat of a unique gaming experience. In P 1 you could actually talk your way out of a jam. Now sure, it was something simple like hit the "c" followed by 5 choices of canned responses BUT each had an effect on the game and that very moment. You want to fight, take an attitude, you want to just hurry up and get on with a mission, chat it up and you could make enemies at least neutral so you could warp and move on. P II was most based on cinematic interaction, but still it had its merits. From what I´ve been readying having in-game chat abilities, although not the same thing, is better than nothing. Flying around in such a vast world would get boring if you didn´thave the ability to interact on some level. Now the idea of Freelancer offering the chance to "buy" information...I wonder if that´s only while landed. Sure, well documented we´ll be able to interact in-flight and extract information from friendlies, but how much of that is driven by choices rather than simply finishing a scripted conversation like some other game that will go unmentioned. I think creating the AI strong enough to give a feel of actual, intellegent, cohesive dialog can be time consuming. We don´t want every single person we meet have a certain way of carrying on a conversation that all sound alike, no, each base, each planet, each ship, each house and world we come in contact with, each having something that distinquishes them from the others, now that´s what I´m talking about! Ooops, got off on a tangent,

I have a Live card with Cambridge Soundworks FPS2000 speakers. Im pretty sure i can hear the full effect of the lasers. Most of hte ones i have heard are just not good. Some are good, like during the rapid fire sessions, those were ok, but the other laser fire produced little sounds like it was a squealing pig. Not something i like to hear when playing. <img src=´http://www.lancersreactor.org/images/news/monkeydance.gif ´> -ph34r th3 m0nk3y- EB
